Well, FO4 will surely be a fine game. But whatever Obsidian follows it up with will be a better, slightly buggier game, but still better in every other respect.
Outside of atmosphere. The atmosphere was terribad in NV. The story was also a lot harder to get behind, I never did the main quests in NV, I just had no motivation to, they didn't take you anywhere interesting to explore. But I did like that you had more choices in NV. I pray they'll make it on the Skyrim version of Gamebryo, it looks so much better than the Fallout one. It also has the possibility of dual wielding, I'm kinda hopeful for dual wielding of one-handed pistols/smgs, asymmetrical akimbos, anyone?
I WANT TO BELIEVE
Fallout 3 was an amazing game, one that i really really enjoyed. New vegas was a better game, that i enjoyed even more. only bad i will say about new vegas is that that the setting was a bit boring, with most of the desert being empty and lacking any real atmosphere- not that the whole game was like that. and that the character customisation was horrible, it took hours of pissing around with options to produce a character that looked good. if they manage to combine the elements i loved in fallout 3 with the elements i loved in new vegas, and stick it on engine skyrim runs on, it will probably be one of my favorate games of all time.
Then it would be a fantastic improvement.
The game will play smoother, the NPCs won't look ridiculous, everything will look better, but don't you have doubts over the writing/RPG aspects of the game? I guess Skyrim was being worked on for a while so we won't see how much Beth has learned from Obsidian until FO4. I thought Skyrim would at least have hardcore mode or a reputation system. Any reputation system.
Dead Money has the best writing hands down. [sp]Get a high speech skill, and follow the ultimate good ending for Dog/God, and try not to tear up like I did.[/sp] [sp]Courier: Imagine that voice, not as a voice... but as water. Look at the voice now, what do you see? Dog: Dog can see voice. Looks just like Dog... God: ...and Dog looks just like me. You've hurt yourself. Inside. Do you see now, see... Dog: ...in the water. Dog understands now. Dog knows what happened. Courier: Then... step into the water, step into yourself. Dog: If Dog... if Dog goes into the water... Dog can't help if Master gets mad. You were nice to Dog, Dog wants to help. God: He's right. If you merge us, then I... we... or whatever we become... we can't help you reach whatever's at the Sierra Madre's end Dog: And Dog... Dog doesn't want to unremember you, may forget you. God: We will forget almost all that has happened here. You'll be alone - at the Old man's mercy. Like Dog. Like me. Courier: I don't want you to be under anyone's control, even mine. Dog: You were there all the time... God: ...all the time, you were there, and so close... God:...together.[/sp]
Dead money's writing and story was fantastic, but man the gameplay was infuriating. Thanks to Gamebryo being shit, the combat was just painful and annoying.
It would be interesting if Fallout 4 had a city like Vault City in FO2. I find it hard to believe that very few of the GECKs were ever used. Also I hope they continue Obsidian's trend of looking to the mod community for ideas.
I think I can hear the Fallout megathread in Games Discussion laughing right now. I'm sorry but there is no hope on Nexus. It's like deviantart but on the gambryo engine.
I know. I've seen it all, and the horror is burned into my retinas like a salted field, never to grow back and know beauty ever again. And yet, with all the awful shit, there's always something that makes up for all of the furry mods, the plasma jizz, the gigantic wearable cocks that shoot laser beams. I can ignore all those, because let's face it - we don't have to use them, shitty and terrible as they are. So when a really good mod comes along, it's a win-win: you either don't get a shitty mod, or you get one that's awesome. And I'm sure you agree, that those mods that make the game just that little bit better - the ones that are always adding in features that should have been in the game from release, working around the awful mires of Gamebryo and Obsidian's hacky coding - are made by some truly beautiful bastards.

While I didn't really like neither Fallout 3 or Fallout NV that much I would prefer Fallout 3 because it felt much darker than NV.
If UFT saw all the people praising Fallout 3 he might have an aneurysm.
I already did. I just got out of the hospital.
Well, as long as they don't make it on that old as fuck engine, I'm fine. Skyrim's engine is still good I guess.
Yeah man, Skyrim's quests and writing were so good, I can still remember some memorable, awesome characters such as:
Bitches about how terrible oblivion/skyrim/fallout is Continues to log hundreds of hours of his life into playing them The bethesda paradox
every night I dream that Todd Howard swoops down from the inky blue shadows above my bed and whispers things in my ears tells me things lies and then I wake up covered in sweat and need to change my underwear
Do you still have those nightmares about Todd Howard?
Yeah, him and his alien sunglasses. I wake up in cold sweats.
Bitches about how terrible oblivion/skyrim/fallout is Continues to log hundreds of hours of his life into playing them The bethesda paradox
It's cause Bethesda makes fun games, but, recently, terrible RPG's. Skyrim is great if you want to travel around an open world killing shit and leveling, but there's virtually zero role play or replayability at all. New Vegas trumps Fallout 3 because it actually feels like you can change the world and have tons of options when it comes to dialogue and completing quests.
