Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 not to be released in west, concerned about sparking a "women in gaming" back
This franchise is not a heavyweight when it comes to sales. The last game sold around 250k copies if word on the street is to be believed.
The publisher could be afraid that even a minor controversy could have a noticable impact on sales.
But nobody really knows at this point, all we have to go on at the moment is what the publisher said.
Exactly, and publishers don't tend to exactly be truthful in what they say :v:
[editline]26th November 2015[/editline]
They're definitely not afraid that the minority will make them sell less, that's silly to assume
Jesus Christ I'm loving PlayAsia. Keep them coming!
Glad to see people not taking kindly to individuals within the games media threatening people with their influence(?).
play asia said doa3's self-censorship choice was due to "SJW nonsense"
SJW's claim they will boycott a site they never bought from, others threatened to ruin play asia's ties with game industry leaders, etc.
ended up giving them 3000 twitter followers in 24 hours (9k to 12k), doing the direct opposite of what they wanted to happen.
Some actually do have purchase history, and are claiming gamergate have never heard of play-asia until now. https://twitter.com/somezet/status/669457306212573184
From my calculation, they only lost about 10 people who have bought something from them in the last 8 or so years.

And why is that silly to asume?
Please enlighten me on the dark secrets of Dead or Alive Xtreme 3, and why they must never fall into western hands.

Because what other games have not sold because of people calling it sexist?
Because what other games have not sold because of people calling it sexist?
Quite a few games have been slammed for sexual content and its not the religious right doing it.
Quite a few games have been slammed for sexual content and its not the religious right doing it.
I know they have been slammed, but has it ever really affected the sales?
oh man this whole thing is hilarious
one side cared too much while the other side hardly care that much
The real reason is that the games sell like 250k worldwide and it's just not worth the money to port it to the minuscule western audience.

Miniscule?
[editline]26th November 2015[/editline]
That makes more sense than the stated reason though
Relatively speaking, yes, it did sell better in the west, but overall, the sales are bad.
If its so bad, why are they making more?

It sold the best in the west. Read the thread.
Okay but I still don't get it, most japanese publishers don't care and considering the stuff publishers tend to pull off, it doesn't seem like they particularily care about what minorities think of them.
This is actually false to a degree, games like Dark Souls were tailored originally from the idea of western game forum board and walkthrough guides.
They pay attention to the west as much as the west pays attention to them. Remember, we treat them just as abrasively.

Good point, but their reason stated for not releasing the game in the west still makes no sense.

I don't remember Miyazaki saying anything like that.
Good point, but their reason stated for not releasing the game in the west still makes no sense.
Maybe you don't understand it, but clearly they do, which is the salient part.

What? If it doesn't affect sales, why would they care?
"Do you know many issues happening in video game industry with regard to how to treat female in video game industry? We do not want to talk those things here. But certainly we have gone through in last year or two to come to our decision."
Sounds like a clear cut case why they're not porting it to the West.

That's just a longer way of saying that "we do not want to be seen as sexist by some" though?? I still don't see how that affects sales or really anythig.

Obviously they're convinced the backlash they would get from a game like DoA Xtreme 3 would hurt their sales.
The developers are literally saying this, I don't see why you're spending this entire thread fighting what a developer is saying.

You mean a representive from the holding company? Because it's never been the case that sexualized females have affected the game sales? Because publishers constantly say things for PR reasons?
all these game journos butthurt

I still don't get it.
What excatly is it you think they're trying to hide?
What is it about the publishers statement that you find so hard to belive?

I've never understood this. Is sexualizing men sexist? Does it degrade men?
I really can't get this way of thinking.
that they're doing this for publicity because they easily could have the knowledge (with any amount of research) that even saying sjw will put them in the spotlight
So you're saying it's a conspiracy to get clickbait... Yet Wii60 just posted quite a bit of evidence showing there was clearly significant backlash and hostility towards their game even before the port was cancelled.
Look, you can try to spin this to support your views as much as you want, but everything's pointing to this being a case of just how hostile the Western gaming market has become.
that they're doing this for publicity because they easily could have the knowledge (with any amount of research) that even saying sjw will put them in the spotlight
i think you could liken it to "pulling a hatred" or "pulling a gta" replacing violence with sex
Nowhere in Koei Tecmos statement does it say "sjw" or anything remotely similar.
It said it would cause a backlash about "women in gaming", wich does happen very often in western gaming media and is certainly not something they made up.
I don't remember Miyazaki saying anything like that.
It wasn't Miyazaki, it was one of the other game devs whose name I forget at this point.
Well then, i guess the answer is to not throw temper tantrums everytime there is a cleevage inn a video game.
That is assuming the conpiracy theorists over at shitredditsays are right and this is a pr stunt, but i really doubt it.
The problem is still the same, reactionary agenda driven dumbasses in gaming publications. When they're not harrasing and causing problems for some game companies, they're being exploited for pr by the others.
everyone knows miyazaki just dragged his pdfs of berserk into the game engine and compiled, leading to the dark souls we all know and love today
I don't know why people say this
demons souls was the berserk-y one
like yeah there's artorias and the unused witch girl but aside from that it's really only vaguely influenced by berserk
you get what i mean, say "women in gaming", "ethics in blank", "tropes blank" "feminist blank" and you get a ton of coverage from all sides
If its a PR stunt the point they stated still stands. The media is demonizing the game as something thats sexist and degrades women, something that represents everything wrong with modern gaming.
I still don't get it.
What excatly is it you think they're trying to hide?
What is it about the publishers statement that you find so hard to belive?
I don't know what they're trying to hide, I just find it hard to believe they're afraid of being seen as sexist if they're making these kinda games in the first place.
[editline]26th November 2015[/editline]
If it affected sales sure, but it doesn't, so what is their point?
[editline]26th November 2015[/editline]
I agree that its fucking dumb of people to call these games sexist but it's not like a lot of people do so.
[editline]26th November 2015[/editline]
Especially not the people who would buy them.
I don't know what they're trying to hide, I just find it hard to believe they're afraid of being seen as sexist if they're making these kinda games in the first place.
There's a difference between being known as the creepy-cool uncle who slipped you Playboy magazines while your parents weren't looking as a kid and being known as the physical embodiment of hatred against women.
Go read those headlines on the previous page again. They want to make cheesecake, and are being painted as an evil that has to be stopped for the good of society.
