29: It's very western to care too much about the weak.
I agree with this statement so much.
jesus this thread is still up just close it, so many people advocating the nudity of underage women in hentai games stop
I wish your username was more accurate because you clearly have no problem advocating shutting down a discussion based on completely false pretenses. Literally no one here is advocating for "nudity of underage women in hentai games", Don't try to get a thread closed if you can't even bother to read it.
Another Game dev company comes up and agrees with the initial reason why DOA3X was unreleased in the west http://blogjob.com/oneangrygamer/2015/12/idea-factory-doesnt-release-some-risque-games-in-the-west-due-to-gender-politics/
Idea Factory is known for publishing a lot of games from the Japanese studio, Compile Heart. Idea Factory have recently been releasing a quite a few of Compile Heart games here in the West on PC after they had successful runs on various PlayStation devices. However, even the president of the Japanese publisher had to admit that the gender political debate in North America regarding female representation and the censorship of some ideas and depictions have prevented them from releasing some of the more risque Compile Heart titles in the West.

Idea Factory president Haru Akenaga mentioned to Operation Rainfall…
“That’s honestly [Koei Tecmo’s] decision, but yes, sadly, [the topic of sexualization of women in games] has stopped us from localizing certain Compile Heart games. We don’t want to censor anymore because we know that’s not true to the original developed art.”

Interestingly enough, this kind of self-censorship is something that developers in the Middle East practice often. They do so to avoid media backlash or, worse yet, real life violence from religious zealots. Back on March 16th, 2015, Samer Abbas, co-founder of Play3arabi, had mentioned to Arabic Gamers…
“[…] we know that our culture is rather conservative, therefore and although we are not subject to governmental censorship we practise respect. We do not want to offend our gamers, by giving them a game that would stir nationwide controversy “[…] we would sensor things such as sexual content and gambling because it would offend the majority of society’s traditional values, irrespective of religion. “We have to draw a line somewhere, and we have to make decisions based on our society on what should be censored.”

I am gonna bump this because Shuhei Yoshida (The guy that runs playstation) Commented on the situation http://nichegamer.com/2015/12/dead-or-alive-xtreme-3-not-coming-west-due-to-cultural-differences-says-sony-boss/
In a recent interview with 4gamer, Yoshida was talking how the Japan’s game marketplace had reached “adulthood”, but they had to be conscious of their decision when it comes to the oversea market. This spurred the interviewer to bring up the recent controversy of Dead Or Alive Extreme 3 not coming to the west due to the western issues of female depictions in video games. Yoshida replied with this:
It’s due to cultural differences. The West has it’s own thinking about how to depict women in games media which is different from Japan […] Speaking personally, if it is a representation acceptable to the general people in Japan, I wouldn’t be concerned about it in Japan. It’s a difficult problem.
Yoshida even brought up how Dragon’s Crown met with similar criticism (regarding their portrayal of women), and even attributed some of the game’s lower scores due to that.
I loved Dragon’s Crown, but that title got some criticism. And it got extremely low points in reviews.

Alternate translation of the same comments here, basically says same thing: http://www.dualshockers.com/2015/12/14/shuhei-yoshida-talks-about-dead-or-alive-xtreme-3s-lack-of-western-release-loves-dragons-crown/ and he clarifies his dragons crown comment: https://twitter.com/yosp/status/676538923506491393
I know, it was lost in translation, I said some reviewers knocked down the score based on some character design
So yes, PC culture is currently the cause of why japanese games get censored or not even released in the west right now. also because play-asia got so much support, They dropped the price of DOA3X from 79 to 59 and the vita ver from 69 to 49. How easy will it be to import a single copy of the game from Japan?
This shit crosses the line for me. I don't care about DoA, but it doesn't mean that I don't want fans of the series to be able to buy it, regardless of WHY they are buying it... For the gameplay or bouncy tits, don't care, it's your life and I can simply act like an adult and ignore media I don't enjoy rather than calling for every dev to cater to my views. If a developer has the ressources to do so, and so long as they aren't breaking any laws, they should publish whatever they want, especially when it is an already esablished series. They shouldn't feel pressured by some angry moralists, who aren't their audience anyway, to change or censor aspects of their work. A developer should be allowed to follow their vision and only implement feedback they themselves decide will make the game better, and not be slaves to some moral white knights who believe that their tastes are just objectively right and that anyone who disagrees must be basement dwelling mysoginists. Doesn't matter what the end product will be, that is their right, just like you have a right to NOT buy stuff you don't like.
Didn't we spend 7 pages with people trying their damn hardest to say it wasn't due to moralists though?
Honestly, its because those people are fucking retarded and constantly say that same type of garbage as if this stuff doesnt actually happen. Then they never come back and respond or defend themselves or even change. Repeat the cycle again next time this happens. I mean, what do any of them have to say now? Or do they honestly see this shit now and stay that delusional?
How easy will it be to import a single copy of the game from Japan?
Just get in contact with Play Asia and pay them.
Didn't we spend 7 pages with people trying their damn hardest to say it wasn't due to moralists though?
I'd argue that most of the people arguing that were moralists themselves.
I'd argue that most of the people arguing that were moralists themselves.
Oh they definitely are, which is why they did not want to admit that it was there fault.
Oh they definitely are, which is why they did not want to admit that it was there fault.
Can't act like they're morally superior while admitting to have fucked up royally.
Can't act like they're morally superior while admitting to have fucked up royally.
They wanted it. They just wanted the majority of the public in on their moral crusade too. But when most people aren't accepting it, they got to cover their hides.
isn't DOA one of the best examples of bad sexualization in games though? every time see gameplay of it it looks cringey at best
isn't DOA one of the best examples of bad sexualization in games though? every time see gameplay of it it looks cringey at best
Why is it bad sexualization? It isn't a serious story making a character sexy to replace good writing. Thats the only bad reason for sexualization I can think of.
isn't DOA one of the best examples of bad sexualization in games though? every time see gameplay of it it looks cringey at best
The gameplay isn't horrible. I think it was played at some tournys. And the males are just as sculpted and idealized as the women. It's just that the men don't have jiggle physics (although package jiggle would be hilarious).
I still can't see this as anything other than a publicity stunt. They made most of their sales from the Western release of DoA Xtreme 2 and I don't buy that businessmen in Japan really care about the vocal super-minority of critics in the west.
look at all these female ~~sexualized~~ doa characters http://deadoralive.wikia.com/wiki/Kokoro http://deadoralive.wikia.com/wiki/Hitomi http://deadoralive.wikia.com/wiki/Leifang http://deadoralive.wikia.com/wiki/Ayane http://deadoralive.wikia.com/wiki/Honoka http://deadoralive.wikia.com/wiki/Marie_Rose http://deadoralive.wikia.com/wiki/Helena_Douglas http://deadoralive.wikia.com/wiki/Pai_Chan http://deadoralive.wikia.com/wiki/Mila http://deadoralive.wikia.com/wiki/SPARTAN-458 god help me if i see them in a bikini
even if there are dudes I think it's safe to say that it's a predominantly female-character game- and it's one that I've always looked at as (that volleyball or fighting game or whatever with the characters that can be summed up visually as: "What a 13 year old in 2008 defined as "hot") [editline]17th December 2015[/editline] and lol https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dead_or_Alive_(series)
In addition to its innovative countering system, the franchise is arguably as well known for its cast of busty female characters and the animation of their breasts.
I'm not saying that this kind of thing shouldn't exist- just saying I don't understand how this is some huge loss or major outrage. There's many avenues to find cheap 3d anime tits if that's what the series' focus is.
even if there are dudes I think it's safe to say that it's a predominantly female-character game- and it's one that I've always looked at as (that volleyball or fighting game or whatever with the characters that can be summed up visually as: "What a 13 year old in 2008 defined as "hot")
It's a game all about female representation, showing that women can fight just as good as men if not better. If they are sexy who gives a fuck. its just a bonus for people attracted to girls who play it. edit: the fact that there are more women reps than male reps in DOA is something Feminists and PC culture should be applauding, but nope. Jigglebones are spotted everything is fucked.
but hey this is just someone's opinion that really doesn't know anything about DOA other than what I can see on the surface-level.
isn't DOA one of the best examples of bad sexualization in games though? every time see gameplay of it it looks cringey at best
it's just a bunch of virtual women playing recreational games
Pretty sure a couple of zack's outfits do have jiggle physics.
isn't DOA one of the best examples of bad sexualization in games though? every time see gameplay of it it looks cringey at best
All the characters in Dead or Alive are over the top and silly. Zach, the owner of Zach Island where DoA Xtreme takes place, is a goofy man who dresses up like a teletubby and used his lottery winnings to make a casino island. Ryu Hayabusa, also the protagonist of Ninja Gaiden, is a hilariously over powered anime ninja man. They're designed to be memorable and they all have quirky personalities. I don't see what's bad about the sexualisation of the female characters. They're not displayed as being weaker than the men, in fact it's often the opposite. Most of the female characters are successful, rich, admired, or remarkably talented, often multiple of these things, while the male characters are often washed up, goofy, or just anime as shit.
Most people don't play DoA just for the titties. It's a really solid fighting game, and arguably one of the best 3d fighters out there. The volleyball game, however, just seems like eye candy. Is the actual game fun to play?

Apparently the volleyball was worse and the other minigames ranged from okay to terrible.
I don't see what's bad about the sexualisation of the female characters.
I also have never had this explained to me and am confused as to what exactly "bad sexualization" is.
I also have never had this explained to me and am confused as to what exactly "bad sexualization" is.
When you feel violated is my guess. But then again you feel violated by fictional thing because...?
The gameplay isn't horrible. I think it was played at some tournys. And the males are just as sculpted and idealized as the women. It's just that the men don't have jiggle physics (although package jiggle would be hilarious).
How the devs should've handled the criticism. Huge dongs and balls dangling around inside shorts, true equality.
