• Apple no longer calls iOS6 Maps ‘the most beautiful, powerful mapping service ever’

Apple bought a mapping company around the death of Steve Jobs. That's something that he definitely would have overseen in the planning stages, and thus making a new maps app was a part of his plans for the future. At the same time, you're right. The Maps app is far worse than he would have allowed. I think at the very least he would have looked at early builds and would never have allowed it. Maybe iOS 6.1 or something, but not iOS6. I mean I still think it can only be perfected by public exposure but yeah it's in rough shape even for a first iteration.
At least Google had the decency to label theirs as a public Beta from the get-go. Apple's cockiness got the best of 'en this time.
Am I the only one that finds it interesting that Apple labeled Siri as a beta from the start but didn't do the same thing for Maps?

It MIGHT just be me, but it seems like the amount of lawsuits increased shortly before Steve's death. Seems like there's panic or anxiety among the head honcho's

He had already given his seat to someone else at this point because cancer was too far advanced to allow him to keep working. [editline]1st October 2012[/editline] And stop considering "public exposure" like something you have to cram down people's throat, seriously. Public beta programs are something that work and have proven to be efficient. Valve uses it all the time for basic steam changes like the community and the general client, and it always asks you if you want to apply, it doesn't push you to it with no turning back. And it works fine.

[SUP]know your enemy and you will know yourself, etc, etc.[/SUP]

I just don't like how their policy's going so if there's anything else I'm going to buy from apple it's a new iPod when my current device fucks up. Because quite honestly iPods are amazing. Also all I know about jobs and his cancer are pretty much what I heard in the news. They kept talking about how sick he was for a good while before he eventually passed away.
Damn, if Hitman Absolution wasn't so close to launch, it would be a great "Accident death" kill to push someone off a ledge and put their phone on it's maps app. (But I digress) Just another reason not to touch an Apple product with a 10 meter pole.
Just another reason not to touch an Apple product with a 10 meter pole.
That's pretty paranoid/extreme. They can have really shit policies when it comes to marketing but some of their products are still good. In fact this whole apple maps thing really surprised me with how terrible it was given Apple usually has a policy of "do it well or don't do it at all".
[snip]...However, people need to set realistic standards. There's no such thing as a mapping solution whose first ever iteration is flawless. All this negative press that this Maps app is receiving is rather childish sometimes, but I suppose it makes for good fuel against Apple.
Which is why they should have just kept using google's maps.
Which is why they should have just kept using google's maps.
And established a public-beta program for power-users only.
Which is why they should have just kept using google's maps.
I think Apple did Apple did the right thing when Tim Cook admitted that they fucked up and made a section for third-party apps in the App Store.
