As someone with social anxiety, this entire ordeal would have been a nightmare for me. He's shamed on the internet, then thrust into the spotlight, then patronized by a bunch of people who want to "help" but in reality want to look good and probably didn't even ask if he wanted a party in the first place. Then he's a celebrity and half the people commenting about him are based on his appearance and the other half treat him like a toddler.
Hell, if nobody did a man hunt for this guy he probably never would have known some asshole made fun of him on 4chan, /b/ threads get buried under tons of other crap and then wiped unless someone bothers to archive it.
Of course this guy probably doesn't have social anxiety and who knows, he might've liked the whole ordeal, but for me this would have been incredibly terrible and I hope he at the very least wasn't in turmoil over it.

I think the bigger message is that people shouldn't be made fun of because of their size. Sure being fat is unhealthy and I hate the whole "fat is beautiful" shit some people believe in, but making fun of people for being fat is not going to help them lose weight, it's just gonna make things worse.
