I grew up in south chicago, my best friend is an ex con from Detroit, he thinks its soooo funny when he hears a white person say nigga. He'll act like he's mad just to scare you and laugh at you. Most black people couldn't give a shit if you said "what's up my nigga". The ones who do care are usually looking for a reason to call somebody racist. Basically just don't say it with er and you'll be fine.

Nigger comes from the Spanish word 'negro' and early slave owners called them that because they weren't looked at as people, just as "black things". Its a word used to dehumanize another race, and I could see how it would be offensive.
Either everyone should say it, or no one should say it.
yeah words always mean the same thing all the time
there is literally no such thing as context
It's all based around context.
I don't mind my friends dropping it around me, because they're my friends and we're no doubt joking. If you're using it for historical accuracy, be my guest.
I wouldn't appreciate someone I didn't know (especially someone who wasn't black considering the word's history) walking along the street yelling it though.
Nigga is a different story though.

yo I'm an ignorant whitey but I never understood this
is it because it shows an attempt to soften it and that thought actually does soften the meaning?
yo I'm an ignorant whitey but I never understood this

For me, it's the fact that it's thrown around so much, especially by teenagers etc. My school is pretty multicultural and I see Asian kids calling each other nigga all the time.
[sp]It's actually pretty cringe worthy.[/sp]
it was a term of love and endearment when he aimed it at black employee.
the little people know about the actual origins of this word, i got into an argument with someone about this at some point. this was his argument.
its about damn time someone stands up from the other side and says "hey, this isn't a nice word"
Hey all you white people. You're allowed to say the n-word all you want. The cops aren't going to kick down your door if you do.
However, if you do, everyone else can rightfully assume that you're a racist piece of shit if you're jumping at the bit to get to start throwing the n-word around.
[editline]4th September 2013[/editline]
That's how freedom of speech works. You're allowed to say whatever word you want, and everyone else is allowed to use the words you choose to use to judge your character. Obviously if a black person uses the n-word nobody is going to assume that means they hate black people.
Basically you need to know your audience
If you're saying things that you know are rude it's your duty to make sure everyone around you is okay with it if you don't want to be called an asshole for it
People who think they're entitled to both be rude and be exempt from criticism for it (ie much of the internet) are the worst kinds of people
Holy fuck why is this getting rated winner? A black is forced to pay hundreds of thousands dollars for calling somebody nigga?
While I agree that it's dumb how white people can't say nigga in unracist intent but seriously? Hundreds of thousands of dollars because you said nigga in the same way you would say "bro" or "guy". A lot of spanish people use it now. It's in a lot of rap songs.
Seriously this is bullshit, but it is New Jersey these guys made it so if you text your friend while he is driving you will be in just as much trouble as your friend if he crashes.

Hooligan used to be an racist term against Irish people.
My teacher called me an hooligan where is my $250,000? She hurts my feelings!
Screw this, I'm suing Garry. Way to much offensive language on this forum.
I hate the use of "nigga" myself, but how can you sue someone because you are offended. I don't care what they said to you, walk away if it is offending you.
Johnson, who taped the remarks after her complaints about his verbal abuse were disregarded, said she fled to the restroom and cried for 45 minutes.
"I was offended. I was hurt. I felt degraded. I felt disrespected. I was embarrassed," Johnson testified.
This person has to be bullshitting for money
true story:
some kid I used to go to camp with who was like white/hispanic mix would walk around camp calling everyone his "nigga". my counselors and black senior campus manager yelled at him for it and said he is gonna get beat up for it one day and the kid is just like "nah nigga"
then he yelled it to someone in NYC a few months later and ended up in a bad situation
This person has to be bullshitting for money

Jurors awarded $30,000 in punitive damages Tuesday after finding last week that the manager's four-minute rant was hostile and discriminatory, and awarding $250,000 in compensatory damages.
But 38-year-old Brandi Johnson told jurors that being black didn't make it any less hurtful when Carmona repeatedly targeted her with the slur during a March 2012 tirade about inappropriate workplace attire and unprofessional behavior.
hi im altimor whats context and what are feelings/emotions?? my fov is too low

um who's paying that?

Most likely since she has to pay $100,000 for a previous conviction
It noted that Johnson, who was never a STRIVE participant, was employed there despite a previous conviction for grand larceny that required her to pay about $100,000 in restitution. The judge barred lawyers from telling jurors about the conviction.
It was a manager going on a tirade at an employee
Why can't I say Nigger if it's not being used in a demeaning way.
Of course saying nigger insultingly that's like an instant foul. You can't just call a black guy a nigger. Nigger is a bad word.
just say nigger and get it done with
for the same reason you can't say faggot, gay, or retarded in a non demeaning way
It was a manager going on a tirade at an employee
So you can financially ruin them for it? File a complaint within the company or something, don't sue them for hundreds of thousands.
;42080498']So you can financially ruin them for it? File a complaint within the company or something, don't sue them for hundreds of thousands.
or maybe just don't be a manager abusing your employees maybe just do that instead
for the same reason you can't say faggot, gay, or retarded in a non demeaning way
So if a gay guy calls another gay guy a faggot, he will get sued for 250k+ over a word?
Even if the employer was some racist white skinhead, 250k because you said a bad word to another person?
What's the next word to get banned? Cunt? Asshole? Meanie?
[editline]4th September 2013[/editline]
or maybe just don't be a manager abusing your employees maybe just do that instead
I can agree that the manager is an asshole, but 250k is ridiculous.
hi im altimor whats context and what are feelings/emotions?? my fov is too low
How does this quote add any extra context? I still don't believe this person cried for 45 minutes because their manager is an asshole.
There's certainly a legitimate harassment case here, but that doesn't mean this woman deserves $250k in compensation.
I argue about this with people all the time.
White people can't say nigger, because it's always racist. (...)
Either everyone should say it, or no one should say it.
I wouldn't say it's always racist, since you need to be assured if the white person who said it
actually is a racist and intended to discriminate, but I'm sure it's always disrespectful if a white
person says 'Nigger' in the presence of someone black, who feels uncomfortable with the situation.
What if this particular black person avoids saying 'Nigger' just for the sake of not giving people like you
the excuse to say it? In that case you were being just presumptuous to someone who cares a lot, whether or not you understand "WHY?!"
huge difference between nigga and nigger
nigga is used by all my white friends, noone bats an eye.
last person who called me a nigger to my face got clocked
the only people who'll call you out on saying nigga are imo either looking for an excuse to scream racist, people who actually went through the pre-civil rights era, and social justice crusaders
source:my skintone
Finally some people get it. This is an open and shut case of double standard racism.
Nigga = slang of nigger. Dont even try to debate that. people who use the word anyway get labeled as narrow because you dont have the vocabulary to address someone properly.
Reminds me of this interview with Samuel jackson
