honestly that's why im most excited for VR. I can have fun playing games while being active and healthy
Really? Honestly? That's what excites you most about VR?
"They've invented a spaceship that can travel at 500 times the speed of light, that's powered by a treadmill. Finally, I can operate a machine while being healthy :)"

It's been demo'd 3 years ago by The Gadget Show
I'd have loved to see the exact same thing done for ArmA, McNab included

The difference is spaceships aren't entertainment, videogames are
The big problem I see with all those things is that the VR goggles have a cable which severely limits movement.
Getting wireless VR is the more pragmatic step before actually working on treadmills and using the space around the player.
This looks so goddamn fun
I think some sort of dynamic fabric stretched over a flat omnidirectional roller/slip surface with movement direction sensors would be more feasible and realistic. Going prone on this thing will just remind you that you are on the equivalent of a baggage roller.

the fuck u just say m8
I can't wait to get PTSD from playing STALKER when this is able to be put in homes
Is there any particular reason why all 360-threadmills have the sensors on the floor? 'cause kinda seems to me that you'd get the same result from an oversized fruit-bowl and a pair of roller-blades with accelerometers or RPM-counters in them.
How about we all scrounge together some cash and start a FP virtual reality arcade?
I found this concept a lot more effective.

Not really related, but can they make omnidirectional tank tracks with something like this?
Cool, but looks to be just several spinning tubes. If I walk out on one of the sections, then turn 90 degrees to the side and walk (or just skip the turning and just walk sideways), what happens?
imagine playing a horror game in that
how I imagine many games will end up

I'd pitch in.

IMO it's a lot more limited. It doesn't allow for things like crouching or any real other hand aiming peripherals.

Why couldn't you just use whatever hand device you wanted?
And I think they should have put a piston/spring/etc on each side to let you crouch. I wonder why they didn't, they must have thought of that surely?
lol good luck getting low latencies (Which is required in VR experiences) with Miracast and similar wireless HDMI tech though
which is why we're here to develop these technologies.
CSGO virtual reality league soon.

There, it's even being made by Facepunch Studios. :v:

They're developing crouching and sitting yeah.
If we talking virtuix that is
Imagine the lawsuits if someone would slip on it and break a leg or something...

Edit:
Why is is so fucking catchy.

If you don't mind not being able to manually crouch/go prone then this will work
Stop aiming at the ground
