More like it will reduce the growth somewhat. It will continue to be supplemented by CO2 extracted from oil deep in the ground. Once again the only real solution is to move away from fossils altogether. Thought if you can coax everyone into using this exclusively for oil and never extract anything again be my guest.
They guy claims he can sell for three times lower or something when it gets taken into production, I don't see any major oil companies not going bankrupt, or license his E coli. If they won't drop oil extraction altogether when this is around, I can't see it ending well for them.
Look at the picture a few posts above you.
I can draw pretty graphs too, doesn't make it any less of an extraneous, quite possibly false claim.
If you people really believe this I suggest you pull your heads out of your asses and 1) Consider that if this was true, it would be the only thing on every news network on Earth 2) Read the comments in the original article and not just blindly believe what you read in the OP <-- Especially this part!! christ you people are gullible

This reminds me of the Sapphire Energy people.
Why don't we just add pedals to cars. Exercise + No emissions = CLEAN ENERGY
I can draw pretty graphs too, doesn't make it any less of an extraneous, quite possibly false claim.
The fact is that you are an idiot, a very unobservant idiot because the fucking picture is hosted by JOULE UNLIMITED.
If they made one that ate carbon dioxide and spits out O2, that'd be great for a filter in cars
too much O2 kills humans
If they made one that ate carbon dioxide and spits out O2, that'd be great for a filter in cars
.....do plants mean anything to you?

as for the reason that the news isn't talking about this, it's not political enough for Fox/CNN ECT.
Science is fucking amazing
So much for the going-green movement that was supposed to save our planet.
That's awesome
Science is fucking amazing
but god created everything
i hope the prius get's wiped off the face of the planet
It wouldn't be difficult because they're so small. I had to wipe one off my suburban this morning.
Actually, isn't it only 1 strain that kills humans? We have E. Coli in our digestive system all the time.
They really should rename E. Coli to something a bit more helpful sounding.
Isn't it Ebola everyone is thinking of as the one that maims and destroys people? Enough of the fossil fuels. Invent something that doesn't destroy the ozone layer (and is cheap).
OH MY FUCKING GOD HOW CAN I GIVE MY LIFE SAVINGS TO THIS GENIUS! c [editline]23rd January 2011[/editline]
as for the reason that the news isn't talking about this, it's not political enough for Fox/CNN ECT.
Yes, that's the reason, it's not political. [editline]23rd January 2011[/editline] And, for some accuracy, Joule's patent is: A method for producing hydrocarbons, comprising: (i) culturing an engineered cyanobacterium in a culture medium, wherein said engineered cyanobacterium comprises a recombinant acyl ACP reductase (AAR) enzyme and a recombinant alkanal decarboxylative monooxygenase (ADM) enzyme; and (ii) exposing said engineered cyanobacterium to light and carbon dioxide, wherein said exposure results in the conversion of said carbon dioxide by said engineered cynanobacterium into n-alkanes, wherein at least one of said n-alkanes is selected from the group consisting of n-tridecane, n-tetradecane, n-pentadecane, n-hexadecane, and n-heptadecane, and wherein the amount of said n-alkanes produced is between 0.1% and 5% dry cell weight and at least two times the amount produced by an otherwise identical cyanobacterium, cultured under identical conditions, but lacking said recombinant AAR and ADM enzymes.
