Have you ever played Half Life 2?
I mean portal's cool and all but it's just solving puzzles with a portal gun. You can finish the whole game in 1 sitting. And it didn't have much of a "story" until the second game came out.
The length doesn't have anything to do with it's brilliant writing, music, tone, pacing, and design.
Saying what you do in the game doesn't make it less fucking awesome. In Half Life 2 you just shoot enemies with guns, so? In Shadow of the Colossus you just kill Colossi.
Half-Life and Half-Life 2 - some of the highest rated games in the world and they're not even on the list. Bull-fuckin-horseshit.
Again, Portal beat them.
Again, Portal beat them.
I don't understand this statement, though. Really their whole system is flawed. How did Portal 'beat' them? They're two entirely different games, really, what with one only having puzzles and the other being purely a puzzle game.
You don't throw away the Vitruvian Man and burn it down out of the annals of history because "The Mona Lisa is just better, dude".

This is true :v:
Because it was not released before they started researching and did the vote for these games. They did a cutoff and the people within the museum choose the games for the vote and we voted the ones that defined that generation.
Eh, if it was about genre/generation-defenition then Half-Life 2 would have been alot more suited instead of Portal.
Metal Gear Solid and MGS: Sons of liberty, Smithsonian, you never let me down
No Half-Life :sigh:
But at least I don't see any Call of Dutys.
CoD 1 and 2 were classic though.
I'm honestly disappointed as to why battle field is not in there, none of there games are there.
lol World of Warcraft not art.

Good point, where is Medal of Honor Allied Assault :v:?
The damn game started the World War II craze.

Yeah, I still remember how awesome it was playing the intro sequence (Normandie invasion). Great game.
I'm more confused as to how the original Star Fox is partnered with Assault. At least it's not Adventure, but come on: 64 was the fucking best, hands down.
Not as bad a list as I would expect nice they are doing it
Glad Bioshock is in there. The art direction and level design in that game were superb.
No Half-Life :sigh:
HL looked like ass.
Uncharted 2?
No?
:saddowns:

This is about art, not how good the game is.
lost to portal
there where no starwars games :colbert:
SW:TFU or SW: EAW or SWKOTOR1 was atleast worthy

Nope. The original had the best music, not to mention it was one of the first true 3 dimensional games.
Machinarium should be there, I mean look at it.

Every single level is hand drawn.

Half life and Half life 2 created an atmosphere that beat every other game, and a FUCKING EXPERIMENTAL TESTING PLATFORM BEAT THEM.
[editline]5th May 2011[/editline]
And have you even fucking heard the half life soundtrack? It could beat 700 shades of shit out of portal.

think of Nova Prospekt, it shows nothing of what happens to the people who are sent there, leaving it up to your imagination to decide what happens. What's worse is that the atmosphere and music of the place is designed to bring out the darkest and most sinister thoughts of what happens to the people there.
In portal all you do is just walk around shooting portals and listening to hateful speech from glados.

Portal is better than Half Life, as fucking awesome as Half Life is.
Well that's just like, your opinion man, but back on point, this is about the art of video games, half-life contains way more symbolism and metaphor, and explores more themes than half the games on that list. To me that's the sort of shit you generally associate with art.
Why the hell is Brutal Legend on there?
Gradius V. Oh yes.
[editline]5th May 2011[/editline]
I think actual gamers picked these. So many good ones.
I'm a little disappointed at the lack of Legacy of Kain.
There's really nothing like them.
Shenmue made me smile, I love that game. The sequel was much better though.
heavy rain was an interesting idea, you have to admit
it fell flat on it's face, yeah, but it was a valiant effort
what you're telling me that this masterpiece isn't that great

It is 100% awesome that Einhander is on that list.
Diablo II awwww yeeeah
When I went to D.C. they had some small video game stuff. I bought Atari playing cards (And left them in my hotel :frown: )

Gotta admit I was surprised to see it as well, but I'm fucking glad it's there. My all time favorite game with an amazing soundtrack. Hell, just listen to this:
