No command and conquer titles: :frog:
This exibit will increase school shootings by %0.9 this year, study says.
i'd like to say I'm shocked that killer7 isn't up there, but it doesn't really surprise me; no one fucking knows about it. shame though, it's really one of the most unique video games... ever. Shows the possibilities of what people can do with the art form - it's one of the most compelling games I've ever played, if not the most.
lol what. Its a Video Games as Art concept but they vote Halo 2 over fucking Psychonauts? I think they came up with a good idea, nominated loads of random games, then bumped their head somewhere and forgot what they were doing with all of them.
You are missing this point This isn't an exhibit on the most artistic games, its an exhibit on the timeline of video game art and how it has evolved Halo 2 was more definining of game art styles in its generation than Psychonauts was, even if Psychonauts was a more artistically creative game. It wouldn't make sense to have a bunch of random non-art style defining games show up on this list (even if they are very aesthetically pleasing) as the purpose is to show progression, yet still have some degree of quality in what gets presented (i.e. random shovelware from the Halo 2 era wouldn't exactly qualify even if it did have the art style of that generation).
but then why did portal win over hl2
because people voted for it. not the people running the museum, the people. regular people.
Where is STALKER
Okami :h: [editline]6th May 2011[/editline]
How did I know Team Fortress 2 would not be on this list? It's like this game is by far the least popular/well known/talked about Orange Box game and one of the few multiplayer online games with a large community that somehow no one IRL has heard of (yet they know what CSS is :psyduck:)
TF2 should win an award for that.
Stalker CoP had such great atmosphere. I agree that SoC was better, but the atmosphere in CoP was what really got me into the series. It was my first day and I was at Yantar, and all of a sudden it was night and I was wandering around in this crazy place, with lightning flashing in the distance, and all manner of mutant creatures howling and making noises, and marsh animals croaking and chirping in the background, and I felt like I'd truly stepped into a game in a way I've never felt before. That said, Pikmin 2 deserved to beat the exceptionally good FE: Path of Radiance as far as art goes.
Where's Riven? :smith:
where is game where is the game why is game not here fuc CFUCK
LOTR: BFME II got in, yay. But its competition wasn't really anything noteworthy.
LOTR: BFME II got in, yay. But its competition wasn't really anything noteworthy.
Uh a major art institute is saying video games are a form of art. AND are making a exhibit about how it has evolved within the past 50 or so years. This is quite big.
As much as I like the idea of not voting for any mainstream games, or for simply voting for all the games I personally loved... I think the whole idea of this thing was to give us a picture of the games that was iconic for their time. So I probably won't vote for games that were underrated, even if I loved them. Voting for the games that were underrated would be to vote for the games that weren't the norm, and therefor not a good representation of that time. I will however undoubtedly vote for Fable 1, although I wish there was even more options :( Why is Crash Bandicoot and The Sims not on that list?
Well, you dont get to vote because you completely missed it.
Oh well, I don't feel that bad about it :v:
No Ace Combat? Fuck! And there are less indie games than I would've liked.
Ace Combat wasn't necessarily iconic, let alone realistic. I mean Ace Combat is fun and all but do F22 Raptors really carry 80 missile payloads?
Ace Combat wasn't necessarily iconic, let alone realistic. I mean Ace Combat is fun and all but do F22 Raptors really carry 80 missile payloads?
Fuck realism it was a bloody masterpiece of story telling, the later games atleast.
Why is Oblivion not on the list? Not only was it very aesthetically pleasing and offering a big world with a lot of backstory, if I remember right its merging of FPS and RPG game was a very unique approach at the time. I think that game would be much more worthy of a spot than Fallout 3.
A list without Half Life is instantly invalid. :colbert: And WoW is on it? what the hell, that game is hideous. Even more invalid now.
A list without Half Life is instantly invalid. :colbert:
"The worst games of all time."
First thing I did when I entered the thread was type "Black Ops", "Call of Duty" and "Modern Warfare" into Firefox. Was happy to see that it gave no results (though of course, wouldn't have been anything wrong with Call of Duty 1). [editline]6th May 2011[/editline] Then again, now that I look through the list, MW1 (not 2 though) would have been a better candidate than some of the games...
A list without Half Life is instantly invalid. :colbert: And WoW is on it? what the hell, that game is hideous. Even more invalid now.
Wow isnt really part of the exhibit. Its a oh we will let you play this for like 5 minutes at the end of it.
A list without Half Life is instantly invalid. :colbert: And WoW is on it? what the hell, that game is hideous. Even more invalid now.
who cares
Darn, Conkers Bad Fur Day isn't on there, what the hell?! :v Bullshizzle.
Too many random games there, it should only have genre-defining or groundbreaking games. (Technical/graphical achievements should be included as well.)
A little disappointed that Deus Ex wasn't on there, but it's a pretty good list nonetheless.
A little disappointed that Deus Ex wasn't on there, but it's a pretty good list nonetheless.
Deus Ex is an amazing game though. I'm going to play it later today actually, thanks for mentioning it.
Assassins Creed would have been a good choice. Their recreation of Italy was amazing.
