USA doesn't even deserve to be up there.
AFAIK Singapore has the highest quality of education in the world, but I don't remember where I read that.
Yeah, so high that majority of the people can't even get into the local universities. Don't blame us If we come flying over to steal a spot in your universities.
Yeah can't believe Finland made it to the list. Worst teachers ever and 90% they teach you useless stuff you probably already knew 4 years earlier. Studying languages was awesome, my grade for Swedish was twice better than my English apparently.. Well I still can't make a single sentence in Swedish or understand anything about the language so i'm pretty sure the teacher just rolled a dice for my grade in both cases.
I'm surprised USA is even on the list
I didn't think it would take that many posts for a "HERP DERP MERICA IS DUMB L0LZ"
--Insert unfair generalization about the U.S. here--
I like how people are complaining about how their country is smarter than the US and then making it obvious they aren't even reading the OP. All this is going by is the percentage of the population with college education.
Yeah americans are dumb lol they shouldn't be up there! http://www.ulinks.com/topuniversities.htm Oh wait.
Somehow, I came into this thread knowing that the US was going to be on the list, and that all the Facepunchers here would call it bullshit for that.
it seems like the results are based on the percentage of the populous that gets an education, not how good the education is it's really not a sign of anything good, of course the USA has a ton of people getting post-secondary, our culture reminds you every day that you need to get a college degree even if you don't have any desire to learn or get a special job. when i was in high school everyone just wanked all the time about how if you go to college (and rack up massive debt with student loans) you get a better paying job, so no shit we're all going to college, it doesn't make us a more educated country. [editline]1st February 2012[/editline]
Yeah americans are dumb lol they shouldn't be up there! http://www.ulinks.com/topuniversities.htm Oh wait.
missing the point
Is anybody else genuinely surprised the US is in the top ten?
Is anybody else genuinely surprised the US is in the top ten?
No but I'm genuinely surprised that we're on the third page and almost nobody knows what this study is actually about.
Yeah americans are dumb lol they shouldn't be up there! http://www.ulinks.com/topuniversities.htm Oh wait.
Great and how much do you have to pay to get into them?

[editline]1st February 2012[/editline]
Great and how much do you have to pay to get into them?
Depends where you want to go. I'm paying around $900-$1200 a semester at a community college give or take. Though you could easily blow hundreds of thousands on an Ivy League university for what you could arguably get for a lot cheaper elsewhere.
US should not be on that list. I call BS. You deal with the most uneducated people in this country.
Yeah americans are dumb lol they shouldn't be up there! http://www.ulinks.com/topuniversities.htm Oh wait.
ulinks is clearly biased :rolleye:

Though you could easily blow hundreds of thousands on an Ivy League university for what you could arguably get for a lot cheaper elsewhere.
So, the top universities cost a lot of money to get into, right? The top US universities have a higher education quality but are harder to get into because they are almost exclusive for the rich people. And as you know most European countries have free universities, which, in most cases, means that the education quality is lower, but at least everyone who is qualified enough can get into them.
Why are people talking about quality in this thread, when the article clearly deals about quantity?
lol america in 4th I doubt it
Why are people talking about quality in this thread, when the article clearly deals about quantity?
Yeah, I just realized I missed that. My apologies to all. The US does do a good job of providing free, public education, that's one of the good things we've got going. Say what you will about the value of that education, but it's hard to question the accessibility of it.
they aren't exclusive to rich people... i dunno why everyone's so surprised America is high on the list - contrary to what you hear, a majority are smart as hell
I was kinda suprised

Their actual education is a different story. College in the United States is not exclusive to the rich, you can get just as good of an education for a fraction of the cost if you go to a decent community college. Or even go to community first then transfer to a bigger one later if you need to. (depending on what degree plan, obviously. Financial aid may be necessary also)
It shocks me how so many literary believes the stereotype that Americans are dumb.
Why are people talking about quality in this thread, when the article clearly deals about quantity?
Probably because of the article's headline, it's pretty bad. The headline and the following article make it seem like that just because there are more people who finished tertiary education in country A are better educated than people who only finished secondary education in country B, completely disregarding that the school systems of countries A and B totally differ, like the quality. Short: More people doesn't mean better.
But the fact that the US is even on the list means that a high percentage of Americans are going to college. But thanks for clarifying that, however I'm still not sure if it's really neccessary to pay for university or similar, but the USA isn't Europe.
I knew as soon as I saw America in 4th everyone would be going "NOPE LIES AMERICA IS DUMB."
Canada sounds more and more amazing every time it's mentioned.
Except for Harper. Obnoxious smear campaigns at election times? Check. Military spending we have no reason for? Check. Bailing his friends out of jail from fraud charges? Check. He's the same as any corrupt American congressman. The Conservatives need to get the fuck out already.
Surprises me we're above Japan in terms of tertiary education.
This, I'm a high school drop out so I probably just made that drop by 1%.
Why is it that every time America is in the Top 10 of anything, people complain?
This seems to be the truth. While it's free in most European countries to go to universities their quality of education probably isn't as high as that of the American ones. But seriously, what's so great about having the best universities if only a small percentage of the population can go to them? + This: http://s3-ak.buzzfed.com/static/imagebuzz/terminal01/2009/3/13/16/acceptance-of-evolution-by-country-17573-1236974861-5.jpg At least that part of education seems to fail massively in the USA.
It's rather surprising that such a large percentage of the population here don't believe in evolution.
This, I'm a high school drop out so I probably just made that drop by 1%.
Canada has only 100 people?
