Britain may ask the US to use its new aircraft carriers while it waits for F35s
Is it? I mean the thing is a giant accident waiting to happen. It can't glide like a plane and it can't auto rotate like a helicopter, which means any damage it sustains is likely to be fatal for everyone on board.
It seems fundamentally flawed.
Except it can glide like a plane, It just can't auto rotate. That's not an issue if you have altitude, it just needs a higher ceiling than a helicopter. They operate at higher altitudes and go a lot faster than the current fastest helicopter in service.

"yeah dave"
"we've got a few billion in tax payer dollars to blow and we need ideas"
"lets make a more expensive jump jet version of the F-22"
"great idea dave"
At any rate they'll fucking invent an A-10 made from the body of an F35.

And most American designs went waaaay over budget anyway.
No matter who flies off it, the crew will pick up valuable experience hosting operations. I imagine they invited US forces as much because we can actually afford to send high tech planes and pilots to do this as they did because we are close allies.
Seems likely since the US Marine Corps still uses the Harrier. Still have to wonder why the UK scrapped the Harrier before it had a replacement.
Because its what the Conservatives do every time they are elected, they do a stupid load of cuts and then it comes back to bite them in the ass.
I've always wondered how they make these big ass boats.

Bolting and welding big ass bits of metal together, to form even bigger ass bits of metal.

Thank you frog. That sure cleared it all up

Thankfully, our conservative party ups defense spending to help cover your ass when you mothball your air force.

Well this carrier was built in big modules around the UK and then they were all assembled in Rosyth.
There's a pretty cool timelapse of its assembly on Youtube.
