Whenever the idea of sex robots comes up (or any kind of robot for that matter, but sex robots in particular), they always look hideous and a little bit frightening. I'm pretty sure most everyone prefers Asimov to these Terminators in human skin.

The main problem with paedophilia right now is that people that suffer from it, get instantly clumped into the "child abusers" group the moment they mention it to anyone, so they can't seek help. Anyone who deals with people's psychological problems is basically mandated to instantly turn the person over the police, and there's no way to study what's causing the problem. If we could study what causes it, we could probably at least control it. Same goes for a lot of other stuff.

If they haven't abused anyone and check themselves into an inpatient program the police won't be involved. The issue is that pedophilia alone, even before it actually affects a child, is dangerous because it implies a sexual attraction specifically to the innocence of children. If it was anything else, like a child's small size, pedophiles could just find adults that also have those traits and have a consensual sexual relationship with them. But it doesn't work that way, it [i]has[/i] to be children. (This is also why pedophilia isn't comparable to homosexuality, in case that troll from earlier wasn't actually a troll and legitimately believed what they posted)

Okay, so I've got some questions I think you guys can help me understand: The way I understand sexuality is that the more of it you get be it through porn or whatever, the more you're going to look for deviation. I could be way wrong on that, but that's how I've understood it - is this the case? If so, would that same logic apply to the use of these robots? The more they use these robots, the more they're going to want to deviate and potentially get frustrated? What I mean is could this simply reinforce their wants for a living breathing child? Would that suffice as a "deviation"? I mean, I personally wouldn't want to get with a robot so it's hard for me to say that this will be something that will work for others. Sex isn't just sex - there's the emotional connections that need to be made as well.

They couldn't be considered a risk to children if they're not around children.

No sexual orientation or desire is a mental illness. There are simply some that are deemed less acceptable by society than others. Throwing someone into treatment for being attracted to children is way too close to gay conversion therapy for comfort, IMO. The line between the two is extremely thin. Not because gay people are pedophiles (news flash: they aren't), but because it's the same mentality of branding someone else as mentally ill because they have sexual preferences that make you have icky feelings. The critical difference is that children are incapable of consent, so we can't legalize the sexual acts that pedophiles desire. Therefore, the least we can do for the poor bastards is let them fuck dolls that look like 12-year-old anime characters. Think about people who get off on rape. There are totally legitimate ways to explore that urge in a proper setting with consenting partners, giving you all the thrill of raping someone (or being raped, if that's your thing) with none of the human harm or illegality. I have never seen a single shred of evidence that people in the BDSM community are more likely to rape people. In fact, they generally test as more level-headed and emotionally mature than the background population. So, yeah, I absolutely think pedophiles should have a way to responsibly work out their urges in the most satisfying way possible without actually harming anyone. Ostracizing them and denying them that release only makes them more likely to try and take it by force.
