For those of you that haven’t been following the drama around this: Cube World is a voxel exploration game that released a playable alpha back in 2013. The alpha was pretty damn good! The quality wasn’t the problem—the issue came with Cube World’s $20 price tag. Folks paid money to experience Cube World in an early state, so they also expected regular updates on the game’s progress. That’s how services such as Steam Early Access and Kickstarter function after all; any time people put money down on something that’s in development, they desire a certain degree of transparency. Makes sense, yeah?

Over the last few days, Picroma’s Wolfram von Funck finally showed the world some meaty evidence that the game is still in development:
Check his Twitter for what he has to say about each screenshot.
I skipped it back in the day
Is worth playing now? Like, lots of randomly procedurally generated fun?

It hasn't been updated besides for 1 single hotfix ever since the alpha came out. So it's not anymore or less worth trying out nowadays than it was back then. The point in this post is to show that the game's actually still being worked on and Wollay didn't just run off with the money.

We still don't even have the quests update from June of last year, lol. Wollay is kinda completely incompetent when it comes to handling his community and doesn't seem to realize he's shooting himself in the foot by disappearing for 16 months without anything even resembling evidence he's still alive, let alone working on the game. (And this isn't even touching on the fact that the end users never see the updates he reveals.)
The current release is a good base but there's not actually a ton to do and the balance is a bit weird. And the community is likely to always be nearly completely dead due to Wollay.
Whatever, let it crash and burn. If we can get rid of some of these cancerous block games, the world will be a better place.
The factions are called:
"Order of the Light"
"Cult of Doom"
"Druids of Mana"
"The Unholy Pact"
"Steel Empire"
He can't be fucking serious those are embarrassingly cliche, sounds like a 12 year old's dnd campaign. Also all I'm really seeing here is some new models, and with a voxel game that is like literally a days worth of work, maybe a week at worst. This is pathetic, so glad I passed this up despite all it's initial hype.
Before the game died, it was pretty fun
hopefully I can get some more hours out of this game when the update hits [sp]in 2025[/sp]
Don't get me wrong, I had -some- fun with this game before the content ran dry within a few hours, and it looked like it had potential. But...
This still looks like a whole bunch of nothing.
Over a year of nothing to show for, and suddenly you come out with... What? Maybe a couple moths worth of work, if even that?
I understand the man is developing this all by his lonesome, but this is still a poor amount of new content even for just one person!
He needs to hire some help ffs. I mean, lots of people blew $20 on maybe $3 worth of content, right? Shouldn't he be able to afford at least ONE OTHER PERSON to help with this?
He's also been uploading music to his soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/wol_lay

yeah I'm sure these 7 screenshots show off literally all of the new content
yeah I'm sure these 7 screenshots show off literally all of the new content
That's all we have to go on since Wollay refuses to release an update so... Yeah.
The Minecraft killer!

If it were me I would have shown off something more substantial (but not spoilery, obviously) other than a small handful of NPCS, a different quest system and new enemies.
I wanna see more gameplay elements, more map changes like bigger & better randomly generated castles/caves/etc. or whatever else. I wanna see more weapon types. I wanna see if anything else has changed other than what these screenshots show.
Because with what he has shown thus far, this doesn't seem like much at all. Give something that will wow the crowd. The only thing that made me go "ooh" in these screenshots is that airship, and they don't even move. Granted, it is difficult so I can let that slide mostly, but still, man.
Maybe I'm just hard to please.
i had last post in the old thread lol.
anyway, this update is meaningless, we got nothing other than access to the music outside of the game so we can atleast experience it, after over a year of silence.
heres things we COULD have been given in an actual game update:
new biomes: what hes shown proves they are fleshed out enough to randomly generate into the world
improved stat system: the power level cap and growth rate being reduced from 100 to 20 greatly increases the lifespan of gear you find, and in turn the stat grows more slowly allowing players to find that epic gear that rocks.
questing added: he claims its bland and incomplete, he is the programmer and could be right, but then again hes proven to have very high standards of himself.
these are things ready to go for a public test build from what hes shown and talked about, as limited as it is, if he honestly wants to gauge interest in his title anymore hes gonna have to break down and get a workable build out there to give us something to go off of.
as for not selling it anymore i have looked into it, apparently UK laws suck and basically its not worth it for him to host it himself anymore for now, so hes looking at other viable methods to do this.

I don't think its being hard to please, I think he is just being very unprofessional. I can understand being timid and not wanting to show too much or being nervous, but this is a paid for product. You owe it to your user-base on not just a level of business but of being a decent person to actually update it and keep people informed.
To my knowledge he has pretty much never really informed anyone of anything besides a few small things.

Exactly.
As far as we know, he could have some really great shit that he just isn't showing. But that's the issue. We don't know. And if we don't know, how are we going to decide if we want to buy the game?
I understand not wanting to show everything. That would spoil surprises. But more than this should be shown.
Either he doesn't hardly have anything after this long, or he has a lot of surprises up his sleeve. The optimist in me is hoping for the surprises.
Even further on this note, user-feedback for a game in development is ESSENTIAL. If we don't know what he's working on, we can't give any feedback until the update releases, and we might just get a whole slew of shit and problems that we would've been able to tell him about if he showed us before pushing an update. We just have to wait here twiddling our thumbs until something happens, and no one is going to know whether it's going to be good, bad, or just plain old boring.
is this minecraft mod any good?
Its not like these 3 days of screenshots are going to be all we get, there's bound to more info about the new content.
It's a little early to despair about the quality of the new stuff is all I'm saying

The way he's handled this game so far makes me think we're not gonna get much more than this. Upon the game's ""release"", all we've gotten after that was a hotfix and nothing else. So, why should I believe we're going to get more info than what we've got now? :s
I do understand what you're saying here, I don't want to hate this game. I really, really want it to be good. But it's hard to be optimistic seeing what's happened in the past.
I'm sour about just about every early access-esque games like this because so many of them have gotten my hopes up and let me down so hard.
to be fair this was actually p fun, especially with friends
Cube World is amazing imo. It's pretty much potential to be my favorite game of all time.. if only it actually got updates/finished.
one year later, people still don't care that much
[editline]12th October 2015[/editline]
I wish I could have experianced this game but there's no way I'd EVER pay for an early access title that isn't getting attention
Its not like these 3 days of screenshots are going to be all we get, there's bound to more info about the new content.
Uh, that's probably what most people are expecting seeing as he kinda has a history of doing exactly that sort of thing. He comes back for a couple of days, dumps a handful of screenshots and other miscellaneous tweets about the game and then goes back into his hole for several more months to over a year.

Could be intentional, fits with the game's simple aesthetic IMO.
Could be intentional, fits with the game's simple aesthetic IMO.
That's somewhat comparable to artists whom, when having a subpar piece and/or flaws critiqued, say "It's my artstyle."
Simple does not equal "poor in quality on purpose".
Such a great platform for a game... He should just give it to someone who will see it through
I don't really think there is any update that would make the game any more relevant, at least to me. I bought it in early access, I got a decent amount of hours out of it with a few friends, and I stopped playing it two years ago. I was satisfied with what I got out of it and gave up on it over those years and don't plan on playing it again. In this sense, he "won" if he just wanted my quick buck.
Holy fuck I'm excited.
The Minecraft killer!
Dunno why nutty people said shit like that in the first place, it wasn't even the same kind of game. It was intended to be an RPG in a voxel world, not a sandbox building game with some very basic combat as an /option/
This is the LoL killer
