sensational headlines are sensational!
so nice though kid should take that 30$ and go buy an SP because then he can play it with lights off and in the car at night...
Idk wasting time like yourself?
what should people in the thread just unanimously pat rick on the back?
Yes.
He chose not to keep it. That's rejection, he just dressed it up with a letter and $30.
just "dressed it up"
oh my god you are cynical
I bet when someone offers to pay for your meal and you assume they have an ulterior motive.
Yes obviously.
You see what I did was I took a detail out if the story, and by eliminating its context it made it seem awful, so people would click the thread expecting something negative and have a heartwarming story instead.
Crazy I know
So you lied in the title JUST to get us to look at the thread?
That's not very nice.
Christ, Rick would pay less for a Warhol diamond-encrusted painting of Mona Lisa giving the Pope a blowjob; that kid is lucky

Lol
Wow that's awesome. I heard chumlee was really nice in person and actually is smart unlike his portrayal in the show.
i got the immediate joke with the title....

What ulterior motive could I imagine this guy to have?
I'm just saying that he refused to take the gameboy (rejection), and so sent it back with a gift and nice letter (wrapping it up).
I apologise that my poor choice of words lead you to totally misunderstand the post.
I expected the letter to say. "I'll give you about five bucks - Rick Harrison"

After a dramatic pause of about 3 months or so.
When I saw the title, I thought it was going to be something along the lines of said kid wanting only like $10 for something that was actually worth thousands, but he couldn't take it from the kid.
This needs to be retitled. This makes him sound like a douche.

He plays the fool. Every so often they'll portray him as being really knowledgeable about a certain topic just so the audience doesn't think he's a complete fucking idiot.

thats the joke holy shit are you guys dense
Hm, expected Rick to haggle the price down to $10.

They all gotta fit a character. Despite that I enjoy the show.
Because he rejected the gameboy.
Actually if you read the letter, he didn't. He technically bought the gameboy for 30 bucks and then proceeded to donate it to the kid back in turn.
The fact that the gameboy never went trough his hands doesn't mean anything.

his profit margins are bare minimal. I really don't understand how people can actually think he's cheap. he makes like $400 per every $1000 he spends. he has to pay wages, taxes, utilities, restoration fees on certain items etc. sometimes he breaks even on stuff or even loses money, many of the things he buys sit there for years and don't turn out a profit. then there's lots of little things like the gas money required to drive across the desert on a weekly basis. I really don't know how he manages to stay in business.

They've said loads of times most of their business is pawning items. They rarely show that shit on TV though, as it isn't as exciting. And they get money from the show itself too.
They are probably very well-off, but still, far from cheap.

they get money from the show but that has nothing to do with running the business. the money goes to the 4 main cast members and the rest of the staff still has to get paid with revenue from the business. they might get more money from pawning, but that doesn't mean they should just throw away all their money buying shit. I've seen rick give people over $5000 more than what they initially asked for on several occasions, people who say he's cheap aren't paying much attention.
