The tsunami is just a normal wave on the water until it gets close to land, when the seabed starts to rise and the wave force is pushed upwards out of the surface water. That is why you can often see ships heading out to sea if there is a tsunami warning.
Except tsunamis travel upwards of 500mph. But yes they are hardly noticeable at sea. I'd rather be in a dingy out at sea than on the beach during a tsunami.
:3: U.S. Navy The best navy ever. Better than Britain's, and we've won the battles to prove it.
Its good to see the U.S. support its allies. Go Go Gadget Hearts!
Go, USS GREENBAY. On a side note hope japan get it's nuclear reactor under control.
Even the Japanese pilots were upset with Pearl Harbor. The Japanese embassy was slow to decode the message and deliver to the US. So they had not officially declared war yet until after the attack on Pearl was over. The pilots felt it was a dishonorable mission.
They found no problem with treating Marines and the Chinese as sub-humans though.
I don't care about Japan at all, but it's nice the Navy is helping.
I don't care about Japan at all, but it's nice the Navy is helping.
You're nice.
You nuked two of our cities and killed thousands of civilians and we aren't even mad at you people anymore. What's with this grudge? More than half of these people weren't even alive when it happened.
lol, I sensed irony. "USS Germantown embarking for Japan"
Lets get over it and stop paying attention to them. Go Navy :toot:

The nukes were payback and retribution for Pearl Harbor and China.
I don't even know how or why this thread got so far off topic, but the use of atomic weapons on Japanese soil was a perfectly justifiable way to quickly end the war. They wouldn't even enter peacetalks when the USSR started Operation August Storm, where they killed or captured 700,000 Japanese in Manchuria. Think about how many more hundreds of thousands would have died during an invasion of mainland Japan.
Nearly 500,000 Purple Heart medals were manufactured in anticipation of the casualties resulting from the invasion of Japan. To the present date, all the American military casualties of the sixty years following the end of World War II—including the Korean and Vietnam Wars—have not exceeded that number. In 2003, there were still 120,000 of these Purple Heart medals in stock. There are so many in surplus that combat units in Iraq and Afghanistan are able to keep Purple Hearts on-hand for immediate award to wounded soldiers on the field
yes we have had wars in the past get over it japan is no longer america's 'enemy' and we're all still humans who just want to survive in this world. any decent human being would want to help another one survive, even if the past isn't so bright
In fact they've developed some weird sense of stockholm syndrome where everything american is considered cool
In fact they've developed some weird sense of stockholm syndrome where everything american is considered cool
They are slaves to their consumers
In fact they've developed some weird sense of stockholm syndrome where everything american is considered cool
Because we were good to them and helped them get everything set up again after the war ended, we became strong allies with them.
There's no grudge except with the trolls and idiots who like to pretend there still is. The nukes were payback and retribution for Pearl Harbor and China.
Actually the nukes were the only option, because the Japanese were too prideful to stop a war unless their homeland was getting absolutely decimated. A nuclear device had never been used and may be regarded as the most terrifying weapon ever made and breaks every rule in the Geneva Convention. So it wasn't "payback" or "retribution" at all, it was the "last resort".
Not to mention a drawn out invasion of mainland Japan would probably result in the Soviets occupying half the country.
Something I've often wondered is that if we hadn't dropped the bombs and seen the devastation first-hand, whether we would have been so afraid to start a nuclear war.
Not to mention a drawn out invasion of mainland Japan would probably result in the Soviets occupying half the country.
Oh man, imagine get your country torn apart in a long and bloody occupation, only to have your occupiers start fighting.

How about a massive joint invasion of the Japanese mainland which would have included the commonwealth, soviet union, united states?
They were not the only option.... The USSR would no doubt try to spread it's political views and influence in soviet occupied territory, and we'd probably end up with North Japan and South Japan fighting each other with the USSR and NATO each supporting their own factions. Hardly a good option if you ask me.

USS BOXER looks rusty.
Ironic.
He's actually sending them there because he hopes their nuclear reactor will go Chernobyl v2 and kill those guys so he can declare war on Japan :v:

My buddy is currently aboard the USS Ronald Regan, he just told me a few hours ago that he'll be heading to Japan to assist in the relief effort.
This is amazing, good going America.
This is amazing, good going America.
It's good to know that Obama is reacting faster than Bush ever would have. I mean hell, if Katrina was so ill-handled under his administration, imagine how badly this would have gone over.
