You can't use the slavery ending thing anymore, the party has changed since 1860. Back in the day mang, Repubs were more liberal.

I'm a registered Republican and I consider myself very liberal.
You have a point as far as the general outlook of the party on certain aspects of social legislation.

Oh thanks for clarifying man.
Didn't know the movement was started by racists.

I think you all are having a hard time understanding the meaning of the word liberal.

I think you switch back and forth between the contemporary and classical definitions as it suits you

As I understand it a conservative means to retain.
The conservatives today are the people in favor of bigger government, the people who call themselves liberals today or those who support socialist agenda are the real conservatives.

If this is the definition you're going by, neither one is conservative.
But what is this "socialist agenda" you're talking about? It sounds so nefarious. And how exactly do the liberals want to destroy america with it? I don't get how healthcare and lower crime rates hurt people. Sure, you'll spend a few hundred more a year in taxes but I don't see how that's an unacceptable cost for a better society that benefits everyone. It pays for itself.

I never said that progressives want to destroy America with it, in fact quite the opposite they want to improve it, and I share that optimism which has made America so great.
I just disagree with it that's all.
I do not judge governmental actions by their well guided intentions but by results.

Whom?
I wish the Republicans shifted far back enough to the left to the days of Eisenhower.
