Jim Carrey at least gave life to a somewhat forgettable movie. I hope they bring him back, and revise his role to be a little more dark. Also remember that the movie was targeted towards children, so of course they aren't going to show a woman ripped apart my leeches.
I can't imagine someone else, actually. In Russian illustrations he even looks like him [t]http://lib.rus.ec/i/57/299457/i_080.png[/t]
My Dream Just Came True
Seeing as the movie was the least offensive offering of when movie studios were trying to compete with Harry Potter for "childrens/teens book turned movie series", I hope the series does alright.
Oh man, I used to love the novels and movie. The latter really nailed the art direction, and the former had an amazing universe and atmosphere. It looks so childish with its simple premise, the author explaining words and shit like he's talking to kids, but my heart was crushed with fear and sadness so many times. In the end, all you retain from the series is that the world is a terrible place, and people are even worse.
Movie was amazing, don't know what the fuck ya'll are on about.
He was too silly, for me. I imagined Olaf being unnerving, even to a slightly silly degree, maybe in a Tim Burton way, but nothing like Jim Carrey played him. He turned the movie into a comedy, which I supposed is where it tried to go, with dark humor, but I really want to see the series take a legitimately tragic route, where I want to see the leeches rip apart the woman, rather than it being implied and then joked upon.
True, Jim Carrey does some damn good comedy, but he brought a bit too much comedy to the grimdark table of ASoUE. Almost anywhere else it would have helped, but here it didn't quite hit the mark. It's a shame the Carrey comedy was there of all places and not where it was actually needed, namely in Son of the Mask which definitely suffered from the lack of Jim Carrey, even though there's certainly a laundry list of other problems with that movie that even Jim probably couldn't fix.
AWESOME! I love a series of unfortunate events! I made a thread on the books a long time ago. If you guys don't know, there's a second series of Snicket books currently being worked on titled "All The Wrong Questions" which follows a young Lemony Snicket. I liked that movie, I always wondered why they didn't make more, for the rest of the books.
I liked the film, even the ending, it was nice to see the bad guy in the same situation as the kids.

It was totally planned to become a series of movies like Harry Potter or LotR, but it just never happened. Which is interesting considering it got pretty decent reviews for a children's film and didn't do that bad at the box office.
Lemony Snicket is a literary genius. The best part about his books is that they treated the kids reading them like adults. They're the equivalent of that one uncle who actually respects your opinion when you're little instead of treating you like an idiot because you're little.
This thread is making me want to re-read all of the books now. I own all of them except the 6th and 7th ones. Should probably buy them just to complete the collection.
I'll never understand why people freak out when they cut out or modify parts of a book for films of COURSE they will! the movie would take hours if harry potter/LOTR and pretty much every adaptation ever hadn't made cuts! Same with any film based off books. I hereby predict from now till forever ..all movies based on books will not live up to the standards of said books..and people will somehow be surprised and angry at this each time. Im a psycic yo..pay me money
Lemony Snicket sounds like a Roald Dahl character. I've never read these, but they're in my house. I'll give them a read later.
