Gotta love seeing these types of people here, making sure these scumbags have unrestricted ability to harass the murdered victims' family members. I'd love to see what these dumbasses would think about someone protesting at their own family members funeral.
Thats the spirit!
There's a difference between free speech and harassment. Do these people think verbal sexual harassment in the workplace should be allowed also because apparently freedom of speech should be all-encompassing in their view? Of course, that would be idiotic, same as letting these scumbugs protest right outside the funerals of the innocent victims. That's why boundaries were set up and rightfully so. I can't believe that people are arguing against it, but at the same time, I can believe it.

The whole stoic internet tough guy bit is way overplayed here.
That's pretty easy to say when it's not your funeral they're picketing
it's also pretty easy to say because i don't get mad when people call me mean names.
The 1st Amendment was intended to protect political discourse. It wasn't intended to protect all speech, just that which furthers the goals of a democratic society. The language the WBC uses serves no political purpose. It is just intended to degrade the recipients. That is hate speech.
The 1st Amendment was intended to protect political discourse. Founding fathers meant something totally different when they were writing that shit down.
Ugh, can't wait till the state gets smacked down with the sweet hammer of "Constitutional Amendments". I mean, I can't really say that what WBC is doing is, wrong. I see exactly where they are coming from; however, I can't really say they are right either.
Yeah, you're right. Start making laws banning public opinions, boys. Founding fathers meant something totally different when they were writing that shit down.
Like you've been told many times, they are still able to say whatever they want. Just not at a funeral.
My life would be complete if there was a law to be passed to ban picketing and xzibit picketed againts it.
My life would be complete if there was a law to be passed to ban picketing and xzibit picketed againts it.
Why ban picketing altogether though? What?

The WBC actually believes it has religious back-up of what they are saying. It's what they believe and they are trying to get people to notice them and their message, and it's working really well.
Ummmm...They can still picket the damn funeral. They just need to be a certain distance away. FFS, they can still picket! And if you're gonna use the slippery slope argument then you can buzz off because it doesn't work....EVER.

What kind of person would actually do this even if it wasn't illegal?
Funeral protests are fucking stupid.
That is not the reason WBC pickets funerals, to "degrade the recipeints". They are trying to get their message across, that's all.
It's a legal scam. They don't care about the "message." Here's that link again: http://kanewj.com/wbc/ [editline]13th January 2011[/editline]
it's also pretty easy to say because i don't get mad when people call me mean names.
Like I said, it's easy to brag about how hard to provoke you are when nobody is trying to provoke you. You got mad pretty fast when I made fun of your favorite rap groups in the music forum, for example :smug:

It might be considered unconstitutional since it limits freedom of speech even if it is to stop a few bastards.
Even though I dislike WBC. I'm glad we still have the right to do these kinds of things and the courts still rule in favor of it.
Even though I dislike WBC. I'm glad we still have the right to do these kinds of things and the courts still rule in favor of it.
Yes. The right to do a new variant of dancing on someones grave and pissing down it is just a jolly thing to have...
Yes. The right to do a new variant of dancing on someones grave and pissing down it is just a jolly thing to have...
Yeah well, people still say they have the right to protest because they only look at it as protesting. When you go to a funeral and picket that god hates you and your going to hell, you're hardly protesting anything protestable, just being a total asshole. Its not protesting, its watered down and legal hate speech.
no i just thought you were being presumptious (which you were) and pointed that out. i think i was being sarcastic too? i cant remember! and yeah i'm not saying i wouldn't get mad if these fellas picketed one of my friends or families funerals but i wouldn't get violent or attempt to make laws against them!!!!
Your post looks pretty angry/frustrated to me, bro!!!!! Stop making so many of these "!" Because its used to be looud and announcing! EDIT: rated myself by mistake, Garry! Fix this!!!!!!!!! Boxes by defualt

I'm waiting for the day a rich man offers to place a cemetary for military members in the middle of a large expanse of property he owns in a MMD state, at least a mile in every direction. Hold three gay soldier's funerals now that DADT is gone. Follow what you think will happen.
Stupid law.
Ok enjoy your totalatarian dicatorship.
I think people don't get the point. Someone limits an unreasonable place to protest, everyone flips out thinking that its worse/going to get worse than it actually is.
I think people don't get the point. Someone limits an unreasonable place to protest, everyone flips out thinking that its worse/going to get worse than it actually is.
like i said before, what would you say if the government deemed protesting outside of your property to be unreasonable and 'disturbing the peace'? what would you say to that? after all, it's only a limitation. [editline]14th January 2011[/editline]
Ummmm...They can still picket the damn funeral. They just need to be a certain distance away. FFS, they can still picket!
you'd be a retard to protest outside your own property. When you protest you protest outside the main office of the coporation/organization you want in dialogue with. They don't even want a dialogue. they said so themselves. They just want to spread hate, pain and a load of "fuck you"s around because "god hates you all and only we 20 peeps go to heaven, so he says we should tell you what you did wrong and that you can't fix it at all. Got Hates you!" Shirley tells that Journalist that lived with them for a few days.
no, this law prohibits protesting of a funeral service one hour before and one hour after, which effectively prohibits it entirely.
Which is good since a funeral contains no people to get in a dialogue with about anything meaningful. Especially when you don't want a dialogue. It's no place to be abusive and harass which is what Protesting becomes when you do not have a goal with it apart from telling people how big fucks they are. Stop defending them. You should not feel any moral high-ground associated with them when you know their goals.
