oh what the fuck i thought it was a double post and not an automerge breaker it didn't show...scorpio's post...oh whatever
Part of humanity is the human body.
way to be a fucking prick you realize that there are people with prosthetic limbs, right? What are they, less human than you? Fucking supremacist. [editline]19th February 2011[/editline]
Man's humanity is in part formed through the imperfections of the human mind and body. To be a mind in a perfect body, with better than perfect seeing, hearing, thinking, everything would be questionably human.
Considering "human" is a completely subjective concept that has never been measured or defined except by pretentious philosophers who like pulling shit right out of their asses I really don't care. [editline]19th February 2011[/editline]
It's not genetically different, what you say would remove genetics.
. . .So? [editline]19th February 2011[/editline]
And you want to live forever?
Yeah, kinda. Sounds like a good gig to me.
way to be a fucking prick you realize that there are people with prosthetic limbs, right? What are they, less human than you? Fucking supremacist. .
Uh...are you kidding me?
That's much less of a radical difference. A cave man still had a physical body. I know it's fun to think about, but it's a serious question, if a imperfect mind in a perfect body would still be human. Or taking this to the extremes that futurists do, if taking your mind and putting it in a perfect container would be even less so. I mean, yes cybernetic limbs and altered vision would be great, but when you take it to further and have a fully robot body it starts to seem a little questionable. This i'm fine with, it's just the claim that if you took everything that made you human and replaced you would still have your humanity that's the problem.
What are you even trying to say? Where exactly is this imaginary line in the sand that you're drawing?
Oh so now all philosophers (which are insanely important to the culture(which is also insanely important to humanity(which is insanely important to you(which is a human)))are pretentious angsty teens
What are you even trying to say? Where exactly is this imaginary line in the sand that you're drawing?
That's pretty much the question. I think it's when you rid yourself of your body entirely. And idk i'm just kinda rambling.
Oh so now all philosophers (which are insanely important to the culture(which is also insanely important to humanity(which is insanely important to you(which is a human)))are pretentious angsty teens
When did I ever even remotely say anything like this? I said nobody has actually defined what humanity is, and those who have are just pulling shit out of their asses.
That's pretty much the question. I think it's when you rid yourself of your body entirely. And idk i'm just kinda rambling.
Well to the atomic, cell, tissue or organ level? But whatever it doesn't matter and just shows that the world isnt black and white something words try to do to the world.
Uh...are you kidding me?
Yes, actually.
When did I ever even remotely say anything like this? I said nobody has actually defined what humanity is, and those who have are just pulling shit out of their asses.
Pretentious and ass shit pulling is what angsty teens do, I just kinda put in a connection just for the hell of it. I'm not even sure what you guys are arguing about, if you want to live forever then do it, if you don't then don't...
When did I ever even remotely say anything like this? I said nobody has actually defined what humanity is, and those who have are just pulling shit out of their asses.
You just said it and implied it before.
That's pretty much the question. I think it's when you rid yourself of your body entirely.
That's pretty much the question. I think it's when you rid yourself of your body entirely. And idk i'm just kinda rambling.
THis is what I'm talking about when I say your peaple's argument is to act irritated and confused. You don't know what humanity is, you don't know exactly when you lose it, but you know that transhumanism does result in the loss of it. This is the same fucking argument that the fucking Baku from Star Trek made, and they were making it against all technology, period. And, yeah, they didn't stick with that shit either.
The body is just a massive life support system with one purpose; keep the mind alive. The body does nothing a superior mechanical body can't do.
Well thats not true the mind is only there to keep the balls alive. But yea I see what your saying.
You just said it and implied it before.
How does what I just said equal me saying all philosophers are angsty fucking teens? Just because you make sweeping generalizations about what's "good" and "bad" doesn't mean everyone else does.

Yeah it's not technically defined but I don't think most anyone's definition would stretch that far. I don't care if you're something beyond human, just don't call it human.
Cept' Reproduce brosef
No, not really. Artificial wombs have been in research for years.
Cept' Reproduce brosef
Good thing humans can do other things besides each and have sex.

You people are going bonkers with this shit.

You don't have a definition for what humanity is, so I'll call whatever the fuck I want human. I'll call fucking dogs human if I want to. It's not like you can actually disagree with me in any way. Stephen Hawking.)

It has a base definition, and actually going with that a robot wouldn't be a human because, well, it's not a human. Circular but legit. And why not call it something other than human? There's nothing wrong with going beyond humanity, why keep the baggage of the word human anyways?
Which has more "humanity:" A brain dead patient in a hospital, or a man that has no control over the rest of his body (ex.
Which has more "humanity:" A brain dead patient in a hospital, or a man that has no control over the rest of his body (ex. Stephen Hawking.)
I personally dont care about genetics (unless im looking to have a child) Its the mind that I really care for and it defines how you look at people and how you even look at posters on facepunch.
Look, the argument about Humanity is sort of moot, since it's simply impossible to quantify, Humanity is a quality.
Which has more "humanity:" A brain dead patient in a hospital, or a man that has no control over the rest of his body (ex. Stephen Hawking.)
People would be able to go brain dead in a shell just as they would a normal body. Or if I didn't comprehend that correctly, I guess we should talk to steven hawking on what he would want. His own body re-wired or a mechanical one.
Humanity is the quality of being humane world: all of the living human inhabitants of the earth; "all the world loves a lover"; "she always used `humankind' because `mankind' seemed to slight the women" source: princeton [editline]18th February 2011[/editline] Sir Hawking
Well then it's settled. Since it's impossible for an organism to change species, no matter what you do to your body, you're still technically a human. Case closed.
Well if you wanna be literal, a human is homo homo sapiens so no a dog wouldn't be a human. It has a base definition, and actually going with that a robot wouldn't be a human because, well, it's not a human. Circular but legit.
This is sorta silly, but you can easily observe it in movies as well; Christopher in District 9 was by far the most human character in the movie, even though he was a Prawn. Being "Human" is so much more then just having a human body, and in fact the argument that you can't be human if you don't have some quality you argue is "human" is a cause for much of history's suffering and hardships (Jews, Blacks, Native Americans, they weren't regarded as being human.)
