$60 for a 20 hour game? No thank you. I will gladly wait for a steam sale on that. [editline]12th May 2014[/editline] Which is actually really disappointing because I was strongly considering buying this game at sticker price because it looks so good.
YANKEE MADMAN! Hell, 20 hours is legit. Ground Zeroes is half price and had what, an hour and a half of campaign?
I don't think you can really determine a game's worth mathematically. Measuring it by dollars per hour is just being overly technical. If it's as good as it looks and it's at least 12-15 hours, I'm on board.

I'm not arguing whether it's worth 60$ or not but what were you expecting? 50 hours of running and shooting things?
I think by "all platforms" he means all current gen platforms. There is no way in hell it runs at 1080/60p on last gen consoles. This was the question:
What can you say about the development of the game on the consoles? Did the eSRAM cause any issues for you guys on Xbox One? Basically will the graphical difference be minimal across both platforms?

YANKEE MADMAN! Hell, 20 hours is legit. Ground Zeroes is half price and had what, an hour and a half of campaign?
Anything will have a better content/price ratio than Ground Zeroes tbh
How do either of those things have anything to do with the game itself?
Because this thread is about the game being marketed. These aren't things that have been established by reviewers or anyone external via actually playing the game. The whole 20 hours, 1080P, 60FPS thing is something released by the devs themselves. When your livelihood's at stake purely based on how many pre-order a game blindly based on what info is allowed to leak, you aren't going to say it's 5 hours of stuttering upscaled garbage with a story meant for Monster-chugging brodudes.

You're all putting emphasis on "these days" FPS have always been relatively short, 20 hours is longer than most are regardless of when it came out.

sounds good, gonna have to pick this up on ps3
i don't really think it's possible to make a military shooter type campaign stay interesting for more than 5-6 hours tbh but we'll see if they manage to
Is this 20 hour campaign just for one playthrough? If so, then it's a good thing there's some sort of incentive (collectibles, ammo, armor) for exploring everything. Half Life 2 took at least 14 hours to beat if you decided to look for some of the hidden lambda caches (health packs, ammo, armor), but there wasn't much of an incentive for finding all hidden caches (other than achievements). I think that in Wolfenstein, you get to unlock bonus content if you collected the chalices. And I wonder how the heck will the different timelines will work ([sp]at the beginning campaign, you have to choose between one character or the other to save, which affects the future[/sp]). Besides the cutscenes and new dialogue, will there also be levels exclusive to your choice?
No, two. The article says that there's a choice you make that affects the story.

They already said that it's estimated 20 hours if you're a completionist, which means it's probably around 12 hours, which is still pretty good. And considering RAGE, another id Tech 5 game, runs at 60 on last gen consoles, there's little reason to believe this game won't do the same. Plus, they've shown plenty of actual gameplay footage at this point, and it looks great. So yeah, you could believe that it'll be 5 hours of stuttering upscaled etc etc., but there really is no reason to. The fact that it's being published by Zenimax and that it reminds you of a totally different game at a glance means basically nothing.
I'm more interested in what the PC version will offer. If it isn't much to justify the 50 gig download, I'll add another game for my PS4.
Is this 20 hour campaign just for one playthrough?
Nah. The article says it'll take 20 hours if you want to collect everything, do everything, and explore everything. That probably takes into account multiple playthroughs, so my guess is the game will probably clock in at around 6-9 hours for one regular playthrough.
i don't really think it's possible to make a military shooter type campaign stay interesting for more than 5-6 hours tbh but we'll see if they manage to
If I understand this post right, you're thinking that the game is a military shooter like Call of Duty or Battlefield, right? Because nothing I've seen of the game makes it look like that. It seems to be more of a mix of Half-Life 2, Riddick, and the old Wolfenstein games to me.
20 hours for a single player only fps is pretty nice Does every game seriously need to be open world, with rpg elements and 50 hours long?
Anyone else remember when people measured a game by how fun it was and not by its framerate.
I can deal with 30 FPS if I have to, but 60 FPS is the ideal. Its nothing but a positive for the game.
$60 for a 20 hour game? No thank you. I will gladly wait for a steam sale on that. [editline]12th May 2014[/editline] Which is actually really disappointing because I was strongly considering buying this game at sticker price because it looks so good.
You gotta realize this was probably played on normal difficulty. While I think short games suck, games that are too drawn out become a chore to play and aren't fun. See Far Cry 2, good game, pretty fun gunplay, but there was a bunch of filler which really didn't add any value into the game and could have easily been shorter to allow for more action-y moments besides driving.... alot of driving...
I have my doubts that it's really 20 hours worth of playtime. That barely ever happens with First person shooters, and thus seems greatly exaggerated But because of the Doom beta, I'm still contemplating whether I should preorder or not. They made a really smart move with making Doom a bonus for preordering either way, otherwise I would just wait for a sale.
The game looks great so far [sp]but i lost interest when i found out there wont be a multiplayer component like RTCW/Enemy Territory ;_;[/sp]
We'll see if that's a realistic number or not. The last FPS I spent that kind of time on was Far Cry 3. Still, though, it's better than the CoD model of a 3.5 hour campaign and $60 multiplayer pass.
20 hours to 100% it doesn't really sound out of this world. it's alright
Is there particularly any reason why there isn't a multiplayer mode? It's great that they are actually focusing on the single player story-line though. [editline]12th May 2014[/editline] Oh wait nvm! Just read the gamespot article.
20 hours to 100% it doesn't really sound out of this world. it's alright
It is for a shoot 'em up FPS. If this was a RPG, then I would agree. What was the last FPS you played that was ~20 hours to complete 100%?
That probably takes into account multiple playthroughs, so my guess is the game will probably clock in at around 6-9 hours for one regular playthrough.
No this number is for a single play through.
Anyone else remember when people measured a game by how fun it was and not by its framerate.
This is a forum with a lot of tech geeks. We get pretty excited by these kind of things. Honestly, it should be measured by its performance aspects. It shows effort on the developer's part.
The game looks great so far [sp]but i lost interest when i found out there wont be a multiplayer component like RTCW/Enemy Territory ;_;[/sp]
but et was added way after rtcw came out?
i don't really think it's possible to make a military shooter type campaign stay interesting for more than 5-6 hours tbh but we'll see if they manage to
Yeah but its more of a fast paced game, with loads of different weapons and duel wielding along with various enemy types, which can make a shooter a lot more interesting.
but et was added way after rtcw came out?
RTCW had a multiplayer mode of its own before W:ET was released though, didn't it?
RTCW had a multiplayer mode of its own before W:ET was released though, didn't it?
Yeah, RTCW had multiplayer and iirc Enemy Territory was supposed to be a singleplayer and multiplayer expansion but the publisher released the multiplayer for free when they had complications with the singleplayer campaign.
