FBI allowed to add GPS device to cars without warrants
Well honestly, if you think about it. When the government owned all that stock in GM. Onstar is GPS... and the government was in control of onstar on every GM vehicle.
Except, honestly, what is the big deal about this? If they bug your car nothing will happen if you don't do anything illegal. And if you are doing illegal stuff, then you probably have a reason to be tracked and put in jail.
If they are going to take the time to bug your car and track you and use resources, I'm sure you did a little more than steal a candy bar from the local grocery store.
"As long as it doesn't hurt me, go ahead and infringe on other's rights"
Onstar GPS is meant to be used to track people in case of accidents or need of help, so using the GPS in Onstar to track someone for reasons other than that without your consent is just as bad as attaching a GPS without your knowledge.

Lol, I didn't say it was right.
I said the government already had tracking on GM vehicles...

if you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear
stop doing this
I am not allowed to have an opinion? Sorry.
I am not allowed to have an opinion? Sorry.
you can have your opinion, and i can have mine
it just happens that i think yours is stupid
Well you want my real opinion?
It is ridiculous that they will not need a warrant to place a GPS locator on vehicles. I also think it is wrong that they wouldn't need a warrant to do such a thing.
My other comment, was merely a joke, as I find it humorous that if they were to track me, which they would have no reason to so I am not worried, they aren't going to find out much by my vehicle driving patterns.
Sorry for taking this so lightly. However, as people have stated, if you carry your cell phone they won't need this. They can get a warrant and tell the cell phone company to hand over the records of your triangulation.
I really doubt that the FBI of all organizations would really abuse this power.
U late dawq
I don't care if they know where I am
Fingers crossed that the Supreme Court will save some small scrap of our civil liberties, but I doubt it.
Am I the only one who is okay with this? They caught a man who was essentially stealing tens of thousands of taxpayer dollars by attaching a noninvasive device which merely tracked the location of his car. Agents could have accomplished the same task by tracking his car visually. This was a time and money saving alternative. The location of your vehicle is not private information.

Thank you.
i'm well aware of the astronomically low chance of my car being bugged, that doesn't make this any more right
It isn't about you (or "what's right"), it's about the police doing their work more efficiently not having to go through some legal bullshit to help snatch somebody suspicious, or build a case or whatever the fuck the police do. Imo anyway.
I mean I guess sometimes the laws and rights defends the outlaws, or maybe that's the point, but it's probably frustrating to the actual cops.
I don't care if they know where I am
Some people care, and some care for a reason.
I dare them to attach one to my Ford. I work on my own shiz, I'm going to see it, and if it's just stuck under there with a magnet it's coming off and getting mailed back to them attached to lawsuit papers.
Want to track me? Get a warrant. No warrant? No tracking. I've got nothing to hide but I reserve the right to hide it anyway, and if I am doing something warranting such attention getting a judge to sign off on a warrant shouldn't be difficult.

Did you even read the title of the thread?

If they have a tracking device on your car, I think you got alot more things to worry about than your own privacy ( eventhough it's not really a huge break on your privacy IMO).
Today in school we had a former DEA agent come in and tell us the process of getting warrants, and from the sound of it, it can be pretty long process, even for tracking a person's car. So I think it's good that FBI has the ability to track by attaching GPS devices to suspects' cars without a warrant, where as it would save them valuable time.
And it's the FBI, not some local police department. If they add a GPS device to your car, it's for a good reason, even though there are times where they are wrong. And it's barely a infringement of someone's privacy, because they're not searching your car just tracking it.

No, but someone who has power within the FBI could.
No, but someone who has power within the FBI could.
Yes because all FBI agents just carry gps trackers and put them on cars willy nilly with no clearance from the FBI it's self.

So many things wrong with this. I doubt the FBI will be coming after you. Just because you work on your own vehicle doesn't mean you would see it. I do all my own work as well, doesn't mean I check the wheel wells and underbody before every drive.
Also, if the supreme court says this is legal, mailing it with a lawsuit would be pretty stupid, seeings how they already ruled that it would be legal for them to do so.

It would also save them time if theywere allowed to just shoot all the people they think is criminals and be exempt ed from any prosecution 4 doing soo

getting a warrant takes too long so fuck it, not like people deserve any sense of privacy anyway
and yes the location of your car is a matter of privacy when they're literally stalking you and watching your every move digitally. i'm not against the use of gps tracking devices, i'm against the use of gps tracking devices just on a hunch.
This is how I look at it, if the FBI has a legitimate reason to want to bug a car, wiretap something or whatever then it shouldn't be an issue to get a warrant. Yes it takes time, but it is the proper way to do things. We have a system in place for a reason. If we're just going to by pass it out of lazyness we should just throw the system away and go back to the wild west mentality. We all carry guns and if someone wrongs us we shoot the fucker.
What stops them from just following you? The location of your car is pretty public. Hell, if they don't pass this, I will volunteer my freetime to follow you around and post on a dedicated website the whereabouts of your car at all times.

A hunch that could save millions of dollars or people's lives. Why are people caring, if the FBI has a hunch on you, it's mostly based on tons amounts of research and investigation. I think you are confusing the FBI with the police department.

But surely tons of research and investigation would allow a warrant? :v:
I also imagine FBI warrants are approved much quicker than police departments.

Just because it is at a federal level does not mean they're perfect. If anything they're worse then local police. FBI can mess up just as easily as local law enforcement. So don't allow the title of federal agent to fool you. If anything I would be more cautious with federal agencies due to the fact they could hide things easier.

i would hope there is some kind of law preventing government agents from stalking you without any legal verification beforehand?

ughhh
apply this to literally anything else and you'll see why its an issue
"why do we need a warrant to arrest this guy? its a hunch that could possibly save millions of lives!!!!"
But surely tons of research and investigation would allow a warrant? :v:
A warrant takes too long, the suspect has plenty of time to move out to hiding. They most certainly get the warrant, it's just the time constraint that is the problem.
