Valve & AMD Team Up for ATI Catalyst Driver Updates on Steam

Very cool, nice one steam. It's about time they did something like this.
Who uses the stock cooling?
All people that i know buy a different cooler for their CPU (if they build their own PC that is).
People that use stock heatsinks are people that are fine with the one that was given. The cooler on the AMD build keeps the CPU at 27-30 while idling. I don't see why I need to purchase another heatsink if the max temperature it hits is in the low 50s.
There isn't a reason to buy a different heatsink unless you need it.
And on that note, stock Intel heatsinks are worse than AMD ones (in my experience). And I hate the whole Intel heatsink mount with the pushpins. Seriously I push down so hard it makes me feel like I'm going to break something. The AMD mount is more reasonable since it rests on some plastic walls that the heatsink latches on to.
Steam update for this is out now, we just need to wait for the drivers.

Then explain this:

Just tried restarting Steam, still same.
Cool, now I don't have to periodically check the AMD website for any new drivers.
Thanks AMD and Valve!
so how does this update work? because I got the update but when I started a game it didn't ask me if I wanted to update my drivers.
Yay, I always forget about updating my drivers.

Maybe you already updated? I just updated mine but my steam has been on since about 5pm

Could you open up Steam, Help, About Steam and when it was built.
Mine's from Sep 14 2010, at 14:50:22

You've updated. I have just updated and have the same version.

Eagerly awaiting the Catalyst update :)
The Catalyst update is already out. I'm just waiting to see how it works out in Steam.
Fuck this, I'm manually updating.
Mine just updated.
It is... faster, to say the least...
Of course I check for new drivers yesterday and they come out today.
This is interesting. Seeing as ATi do monthly release of their catalyst drivers it makes sense to have a fluid distribution system. Shame I just dumped my 4670 for a 460, worth it mind you :v:
Though nVidia could do with something like this, they do not have such a steady release schedule for their drivers, and I know i will miss a good portion of them thanks to that. At least when I was with a ATi card I knew when a driver would be out.
I have the Steam update downloading now.
[editline]09:29PM[/editline]
Whee, downloading my first driver from Steam.

No pop-up or anything yet triggered for me.
Maybe as I'm on a mobile chipset? *shrugs*

I manually triggered an update for Steam and the same for the driver update.
Talk about awesome, this'll make my driver updates a breeze.
I manually triggered an update for Steam and the same for the driver update.
I did that. Just got redirected to AMD's driver download page. Mobile graphics chipset ftl I guess! Will make things easier on my main computer though.
hmm. when I select "check for driver updates", it just redirects me to the AMD site. so I just downloaded the full Catalyst Suite. am I supposed to uninstall my current drivers before installing the new ones or it doesn't matter?
That would explain it. Latest driver available for my graphics is 10.8.
[editline]09:49PM[/editline]
Mah automerge!

Shouldn't matter, it should just overwrite it with the updated version.
Fuck nvidia, they never do something cool.
It says 59.11% of steam users use nvidia video cards and 32.98% use ATI. I don't get it.
yeah, I updated my drivers manually. steam still thinks I'm at version 8.bleh and not 10.6 or whatever the latest one it is. I guess steam doesn't like the Mobility drivers.
Nvidia better do something similar.
Yeah, if only they had some place you could go to see if there are new drivers available for download
Does this mean better performance in games for us ATI-people?
My almost 30 agrees got me curious, so I decided to give it a go.
My FPS boosted in L4D with about 15-20FPS, so now I'm up at 60-70 constant fps instead of 40-50 like it was before! :v:

What is there not to get?
What is there not to get?
He doesn't understand that intel makes video cards
[editline]02:49PM[/editline]
Or at least, integrated ones
Intel makes the worlds only graphics decelerators.
Awesome, I hate doing drivers. I always manage to screw it up!
Bah, this is pretty much useless for me. I want the Danish language CCC but this installs the English one with no way for me to choose.
[editline]12:23AM[/editline]
It will probably also autoinstall whatever bullshit promotion ATI has included at the time.
