[B]'Net neutrality': Comcast vs. FCC[/B] A federal appeals court's decision today is [URL="http://www.mercurynews.com/business-headlines/ci_14829249"]a victory for Comcast[/URL] and a setback for groups and Silicon Valley companies such as Mountain View Internet juggernaut Google that are pushing for "network neutrality." In our nation's capital, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit ruled the Federal Communications Commission doesn't have the right to insist that high-speed Internet providers treat all traffic on their networks equally. The court indicated Congress would need to give the FCC that kind of legal authority. According to our friends at The Associated Press, the ruling reverses a 2008 FCC order prohibiting Comcast from banning the use of the bandwidth-intensive BitTorrent file-sharing service on its network. Net neutrality proponents disagree. "Because this case has turned into a lawyers' debate over technical issues, it is easy to lose sight of its importance to freedom of speech and expression," Parul Desai, vice president of the Media Access Project, said in a statement today. Oh god what happened to this thread [url]http://i475.photobucket.com/albums/rr120/advancedlamb/Capture-8.png?t=1270674033[/url] (It's too big to img tag)
So....what does this actually mean?
[QUOTE=dutchah;21208883]So....what does this actually mean?[/QUOTE] probably that Comcast can block all bit torrent downloading or uploading, and in the future you may have to pay more to access different sites at a higher speed.
please tell me comcast will lose customers in droves for this.
[B]FUCK YOU COMCAST, FUCK YOU.[/b] [img_thumb]asdfasdfasdf[/img_thumb]
[QUOTE=toxicpiano;21208925]probably that Comcast can block all bit torrent downloading or uploading, and in the future you may have to pay more to access different sites at a higher speed.[/QUOTE] Only for comcast users right?
[QUOTE=Perfumly;21209026]please tell me comcast will lose customers in droves for this.[/QUOTE] Of course they will. As soon as any ISP takes up this sort of thing people will instantly swap.
america
[QUOTE=Gprimeisback;21209037]Only for comcast users right?[/QUOTE] At the moment, but it basically gives the green light to all the other american ISPs to do the same thing.
I know that Comcast has a real hard-on for fucking with bittorrent traffic, but I could have sworn they at least supported an open internet.
Looks like the gates are open. In before every other ISP does the same
Say goodbye to freedom.
hurf durf america bans downloading
[QUOTE=toxicpiano;21209146]At the moment, but it basically gives the green light to all the other american ISPs to do the same thing.[/QUOTE] Hopefully this shit doesn't spread to Canada

Australia now bans Net Neutrality.
[QUOTE=radioactive;21209527]Australia now bans Net Neutrality.[/QUOTE] That's overrated. [editline]01:02AM[/editline] nice avatar too
aw fuck.
The laws will be changed, America supports Net Neutrality too much to ruin it like this. Also, Bittorrent works fine on my Comcast, I was downloading Zoo Tycoon (Which I own, I just can't find the key) just the other day
Fuck! I can't even switch to a different ISP because around here they all suck even more than comcast.
Well hopefully the FCC will create some rules regulating net neutrality so they can enforce them. As much as this sucks, the FCC can't enforce rules that don't exist yet, which is why Comcast won the case.
Thank god I'm not with Comcast.
[QUOTE=N0 WAR;21209817]That's overrated. [editline]01:02AM[/editline] nice avatar too[/QUOTE] [img]http://cdn0.knowyourmeme.com/i/31276/original/164868265.jpg[/img] Avatar thief.
This may be the end of the Internet as we know it.
[QUOTE=MachiniOs;21210928]This may be the end of the Internet as we know it.[/QUOTE] I sure hope not, I like the internet as it is
[QUOTE=Perfumly;21209026]please tell me comcast will lose customers in droves for this.[/QUOTE] I'll leave Comcast when they stop being the best choice by far. They have always been up front with me about any limitations on my connection and the bandwidth limits are not only larger than I need, but are only even enforced if bandwidth is actually an issue. I've never had a problem with bit torrent on them and I doubt it will change any time soon. I have some of the best service up time I've ever had with a provider. I mean if you want to cart some Fios down here or something similar, I'll gladly switch over, but until then comcast beats the pants off other cable providers.
If you've got enough money, you can buy any part of our legislative or judicial system. I'd hope the Democrats could pass some new regulation to restore the FCC's authority, but I'm sure the Republicans will unanimously filibuster that too...
Goodbye Internet, I barely knew thee
I don't feel so bad for always typing Comcast as Cocmast now
