• Anders Behring Breivik gets his own prison psych ward; will have friends over to play chess and hock

How extensive is this ward going to be? Are they building a whole new extension to the prison building, or just walling-off a section that already exists? And i'm guessing the paid friends bit is probably because he will not be allowed to mingle with the rest of the prison population whatsoever, and is unlikely to have family visiting him after what he did. To the best of my recollection, Norway does not do solitary confinement.
This guy is what the death penalty should reserved for, undoubtable atrocities and whatnot. I'm sure the victim's families would love to watch this guy fry.
And what would another life lost really do for the world?
And what would another life lost really do for the world?
Closure, maybe?
And what would another life lost really do for the world?
Give people a sense of justice and ensure this guy doesn't have the ability to continue killing people. I hate the death penalty, but it's really hard to just sit here and say "Respect the killer's rights" when he obviously did not when he murdered countless innocent people. The life he'll be living is actually better than my own, and he killed people.
So they plan to hire "friends" who would be charged with playing chess and indoor hockey with the murderer.
That sounds like a pretty shitty job.
Why don't they just send him to the electric bench? I know that it is inhuman etc, but he killed a whole fucking island. Now they are just wasting money on a mass-murderer. He is insane, there is nothing much to do with him in 21 years, is there? It is not like any place will take him to work at their place probably. I know that people hate the idea of killing the people with disabilities, but what do you have to do with people who can't do jackshit and only are in a bed, looking at the TV and having other people feed them? They are not useful to the society, are they? This post will probably make people hate me but seriously, what do you do with the useless part of the society?
The whole reason that so many great countries don't have death penalties is because they want to really punish the criminals, leave them with their guilt, stress and what not for the rest of their lives. Death might seem like the worst penalty but it's done in a second. (And more expensive)
You guys do realize that the reason they're doing this is for the safety of the other prisoners, right?
That sounds like a pretty shitty job.
I have a feeling they would let him win.
Oh no they're treating him like a human being, how terrible!
They should make it so all his 'friends' are Muslims.

One of the major running themes of this whole debacle is that we're not to treat him any differently than we would any other prisoner because we don't want him to feel that his actions have made him special in any way. Additionally, I cannot find any Norwegian sources to confirm that a ward is to be built for him, nor does the video supplied in the link mention it. On top of that, following the links cited as sources in the article doesn't lead to any clear statement or Norwegian outlet. If the last source in the chain is correct, the ward is also being built to keep him in a prison as opposed to a less restrictive actual psychiatric ward.
I'm not for treatments like here in the US, but this just doesn't sit right.
They really should fry his ass. I don't mean fry as a metaphor for kill, either, I mean they should put the lethal injection bed aside, bust out an old electric chair, and use that.
Breivik hasn't shown any guilt whatsoever so far, so what difference does it make if he sits the 21 years in "paradise" or die in his sleep?

They're only wasting time and resources, after all!
I know FP is typically against capital punishment, but I'm still going to say it: just kill him. He murdered 77 people.
Hey, by that logic - why don't we just kill off EVERYONE in prison? They're only wasting time and resources, after all!
You're being stupid.
America tortures terrorists in Gitmo and gives them the death penalty - fuck America this is some medieval shit Norway respects terrorists' human rights and puts them in prison - fuck Norway this is some pussy shit
Yeah it's not like there's any middle ground between playing hockey and being torture.
I know FP is typically against capital punishment, but I'm still going to say it: just kill him. He murdered 77 people.
The thing is that he has made multiple references to never actually wanting to kill, but instead feeling like it was his "only option", in reference to how his country was going. Going from this, it seems that he was more the porduct of his enviornment and somehow we allowed him to get worse and worse. Considering this, I don't think I could kill him if I were given the chance.
Wow, all they had to do was use a single round and there wouldn't be this gigantic fucking waste of Norwegian taxes. But hey I'm American and it's your money. Burn it how you want, we do basically the same thing for dumber shit.
Oh no they're treating him like a human being, how terrible!
Except he's not a human being. He's a monster that killed off an entire island of people, and had no regrets about doing so. He actually smiled and laughed about the whole ordeal in court. I'm not saying he needs the death penalty, but he deserves far worse than a life of luxury that's better than most people I know. Honestly, there's treating him like a human, and there's treating him like royalty. I want to see him suffer through some of the situations my family endured, with little money and hardly being able to afford food because of layoffs. Maybe being up to your neck in student loans and constantly being dismissed from job applications. That's living life like a human, he's living life better than a majority of Americans.
You're being stupid.
His statement is what led to those with disabilities killed off during the Holocaust and I'm the stupid one?
Because any of his friends prior to this even would probably enjoy visiting him.
People here see him put in one extreme (luxury) and so call out for the opposite extreme (death penalty). Is all anyone on FP here see is in black and white?
His statement is what led to those with disabilities killed off during the Holocaust and I'm the stupid one?
You don't seem to understand that I'm not defending him being killed, I'm defending that treating him differently from the majority of the prison population is wrong because he's getting better living conditions than other inmates for doing worse things.

I do agree with not giving him grand conditions better than others.
