Is this legal? For him to be a street vendor? Do they need license to sell stuff?
There's nothing about him owning a license or not, just fear-mongering bullshit from the Daily Mail ofcourse. But yeah, I'm pretty sure he would. It's no different from someone selling ice cream from an ice cream van. Seriously though, read the full article. It's laughable fear-mongering bullshit.
I'm pretty sure when this is closed, a smart kid will buy candy, strap it to the inside of his jacket and sell it in the toilets for big bucks.
You'd have to stop several fast food stores from "cashing in childhood obesity" as well. If he is not doing anything illegal I dont see a problem here.
In my very, very early days of school, There was a vendor that was in the entrance door every time we get out of there
Yeah here in Brazil this is pretty much a common sight.
You'd have to stop several fast food stores from "cashing in childhood obesity" as well.
Yeah here in Brazil this is pretty much a common sight.
Nobody really gives a shit if someone opens a candy store nearby the school, or blablablabla here in brazil, as it is pretty common. Now one thing that parents should make their son learn: Self Control
If that guy doesn't do it, some kid will. The food served in the cafeterias was terrible at my high school so we all used to sneak off to go to the butty van where at least it tasted good. People would sell cans of pop and sweets and stuff and I used to make a decent amount of money selling chewing gum. The guy isn't a bad person, if he wasn't there doing it someone else would. Not sure about the legality of it though.
Well, there was a small shop near my school (literally 30 steps from the school gates) everyone used to go to for sweets. Around 5 years ago they replaced it with a beer shop. Yep.

Candy was sold at my school all the time by kids. It was the best way for clubs to fund raise.

Back in the old days here in Poland there were no sweets, only stones with sugar on it. But every once in a while, there was this mysterious red fiat 126p (which was like like literally the only kind of car in Poland at the time) that came on driving to our block yard. He didn't have a bell, or fancy music. The moment one kid spotted him, a chain reaction began. After no longer than 10 minutes everybody knew what was going on. He drove into one of the alleys between the blocks. Got out of the car. Opened his trunk, and pulled out some weird, almost alien equipment. And he started to make cotton candy. Cotton fucking candy. You can't imagine how fucking much cash every kid blew on those sugary clouds right out of the sky. After a few years, in different times, he vanished. And was never heard off again.
cashing in on childhood obesity
Being fat doesn't mean you can't resist unhealthy food, I fail to see the point being made here
if this was in the states he'd be in guantanamo faster than you can say "allahu ackbar"
You never had a snack wagon? I have pleasant memories of snack wagons. Granted, most weren't operated from the back of an old van.

this is a pretty common thing where i'm from, personally i think it's kind of a dick move but also very smart now if only most schools wouldn't serve absolute crap, no matter how 'healthy' they try to label it [editline]8th January 2014[/editline]
Back in the old days here in Poland there were no sweets, only stones with sugar on it. People are fucking idiots. You don't want your kid being fat? Encourage them to do some exercise and give them some time outside. People like blaming the kids and their diet for being fat when in reality it's their lack of time outside engaging in activity or play. One or two candy bars isn't going to make them fat if they have a decent diet and are participating in sport or play.
my entire HS's town would shut down
I would love to have a Mcdonalds near me that wasn't an hour walk away.
my entire HS's town would shut down
Geez where is this? Where is the grass?
Geez where is this? Where is the grass?
In plain sight of the school office.
Also is it just me or does that look like a few bottles of Propel in the last picture?
Also is it just me or does that look like a few bottles of Propel in the last picture?
The orange stuff with the black label? That's just some cheap Isotonic Sports drink from Asda.
I mean, seriously, what's the difference between a guy in a car right outside, and a nearby supermarket? The supermarket sells you more for less. The guy's arguably leading to less sugar consumption!
The photographs show the man selling 500ml bottles of fizzy drinks for 50p and bags of crisps for 30p, half the price they can be bought for in shops. That's typically 65p for 2 litres, crisps were got in the large packs, and sweets in bulk. A 12-18 year old isn't really going to care about lugging 2 litres around, it's not hard. The shop also took advantage of it - there was nearly always a BOGOF or half price in fizzy drinks, same for one of the brands of sweets and crisps.
Geez where is this? Where is the grass?
I'm guessing they take satellite photos during winter so it's easier to see roads and buildings.
This is going to end because he isn't licensed to sell on the street, or something along those lines. Shame, because I like this sort of thinking.
