Why are they defending him? He did something completely illegal, and they support him and help him? Jesus christ.
Maybe it has something to do with the fact that they are family and friends, and that Valdez is a human?
No, can't be.
I cannot support either side
One man who is being a dumbass.
Several friends who put themselves in harms way by posting thanks to America's faux "Freedom of speech"
And the most morally corrupt justice system in the world.
Argh, frustrating to the extremes.
Since some of his friends were technically offering him tips via Facebook, authorities are now debating whether or not they should charge these people with Obstruction of Justice.
RIP Freedom of Speech/First Amendment 17something-1915
He should have created a poll to decide what to do with the hostage.

Aiding criminals is not protected under the 1st amendment nor should it ever be

Except several people were helping him. And so far, the only indication she wasn't a hostage is statements from the guy who took her hostage.
Its kinda like a suicide bomber who gets caught before he detonates himself and tries to use the excuses "Those weren't my explosives! Someone just put them on me!"
Would you happen to be a good friend of ShukaidoX?
Honestly they should be tried, if i were on anything other than the internet the'd be sentanced just like that.
haha, look at the bottommost comment in the picture. WTF GOIN ON
Shot him self in the chest what a dumb fuck.
He probably tried to shoot himself in the heart but didn't know where it was.
Probably shot himself on the right side of his chest
Sure guys he did something illegal, but you're making it seem like his friends should automatically turn hostile to him for doing something like this. They were just trying to be friends. :frown:

I don't remember the last time I aided my friend in the middle of a hostage situation. Its not like shouting encouragements in the middle of a baseball game where the worst that can happen it your friend gets hit with a ball in the side and gets to walk to first base or he gets in a fight with the pitcher.
A few of my friends were stupid enough to ride around one night with an airsoft pistol and one of them duct taped in the trunk. They stopped in a Walgreens parking lot, popped the trunk open, and had the guy run away while two others chased him down, one with the pistol. They ran by several people and Walgreens staff and at least one police officer. Then they drug him back to the car like he was unconscious.
As they were getting back in the car and about to swap out and do it again, they got penned in by several police cruisers and held at gun point until the police searched the entire car and checked to make sure there were no real weapons. One of them nearly got his head blown off because he thought they were just messing with them and he refused to put his hands up when ordered to. The real miracle here is that they didn't get fined, not to mention arrested.
They may be some of my closest friends, but they were absolutely fucking stupid that day, and I told them so. It was the worst idea they could possibly have short of faking a robbery or mugging. So no, when people are being that stupid, the last thing you should do is be encouraging or supportive. You should tell them how fucking dumb they are and tell them to back down before shit gets bad.
Any kind of real friend would understand that you shouldn't encourage your friends to do stupid, dangerous things, especially when they have an incredibly high chance of them getting killed or arrested. You don't even support them through them. You try and get them out of it in a way that incurs as little damage as possible, which does not include telling them to exacerbate a stand off with the police.

They didn't get arrested? HOW?
Maybe it has something to do with the fact that they are family and friends, and that Valdez is a human?
No, can't be.
Here we go again...
friends don't shout encouragement to friends on facebook who are taking hostages.
accomplices do that.
They didn't get arrested? HOW?
Hell if I know. I just know I was pissed off for a week afterwards, especially since I had to pick some of them up at 10:00 PM.
What happened last Last Friday, when an armed man in an Ogden, Utah hotel room kept police at bay for 16 hours was really crazy. Jason Valdez, 36, had a woman who seems to his friend with him which may or may not have been a hostage. He used his cell phone to keep pals and family updated throughout the event via updates to his Facebook status. The proof is here: Gunman updates Facebook status during police standoff. I'm really wondering what his intention was for doing such a disturbing actions.
