I'd also like to point our that she supported #cancelcolbert and then a few months later appeared on the show herself and seemed to be quite happy about it all the while Steven Colbert poked holes in her tropes vs women in video games arguements.
Furthermore, when Colbert asked "name 3 games which are sexist" All she could name off was Grand theft auto. Which isn't surprising considering she doesn't play video games in the first place and didnt even write her own tropes vs women in video games videos..
I can only conclude that she is taking a side in the gender discussion to perpetuate her own career as a public speaker.
I just don't understand why people support a fraud like her. Actually scratch that, I do know why. People just want a side to pick and want to sit on the moral high horse of their choosing. It just so happens that feminism is an easy high horse to sit on.
I think most people you see supporting her or defending her on the internet hardly even follow her. It just blows my mind how you wouldnt be able to see how fucked and wrong she is on pretty much everything. You would have to be brain dead not to see through her bullshit at this point.
Like if you actually followed her and not just got all your information from news sites and blogs you can figure out pretty quickly she just does this for money, knows NOTHING about video games at all, and is a pretty hateful person. All you need to do is watch her videos and follow the fem freq twitter to see how absurd she is. But I think most people just defend her because of whatever reason, maybe it makes them feel like they are good and did something, I dunno. How can anyone see this and ACTUALLY agree with it? I dont understand.
I feel like this short, out of context clip doesn't really do a whole amount, she's said before she plays games but doesn't consider herself a gamer due to the connotations that puts forward, and in this clip she says she learned a lot during making it, I think it's entirely fair to say she possibly carried on learning about the subject up to and during making her videos
Firstly, see my post above.
Secondly, Plays games but doesn't consider herself a gamer seems like a cop out answer. I mean she had to address that people caught her lying some how right? If i was in her lying ass position, I would have said the same thing too. Semantics!!
whenever i hear about gamergate or SJWs or feminism it's like some shit out of idiocracy
there's this alternate universe on a social media platform that enforces a 114 character limit designed to promote the lowest common denominator of every discussion where for some reason a grown ass adult named anita sarkeesian has posed as the world's most unfortunate representative of a good but complicated cause, exploiting it by presenting it in its least nuanced and most abbreviated form possible to a medium and audience that was largely devoid of the context and information required to decrypt it in the first place (including tumblr tweens) so she can commodify their outrage to increase her own publicity which she misguidedly thinks is publicity for her cause. meanwhile the rest of the world goes on having an entirely separate conversation punctuated by prayers that the entire debate hasn't already been subverted in the public intellect for a future generation. pointless.
How is she a fraud? She's never defrauded anyone to the best of my knowledge.
[editline]24th June 2015[/editline]
Not just paid shills, but paid false flag shills? Truly the SJW illuminati are more devious than I thought
Because not making the videos you were paid to make isn't fraud right?
I'd also like to point our that she supported #cancelcolbert and then a few months later appeared on the show herself and seemed to be quite happy about it all the while Steven Colbert poked holes in her tropes vs women in video games arguements.

Now, I'm not exactly her biggest fan, but regardless there seems to be a few things here that have taken several cycles through the rumor mill
Regarding Colbert, he didn't exactly pressure for the answer, now I'm not sure if the 5 minute clip on youtube is the full thing but it seemed like just a small tangent
The whole cancel colbert thing seems to be a little blown out of proportion, she used the hashtag once on tumblr, using a hashtag doesn't necessarily mean you support the views it expresses, this article explains it somewhat better than I can
https://srhongamergate.wordpress.com/2014/10/30/anita-sarkeesian-never-supported-cancelcolbert-debunking-the-latest-gamergate-lie/
The thing about her not writing her own stuff seems a little tinfoil and there doesn't seem to be any hard evidence
(although I only really skimmed it so feel free to pick up anything I missed)
Firstly, see my post above.

I feel like there's probably a whole lot more to it than 'SHE'S A LIAR AND A CHEAT AND A CHARLATAN' honestly, I mean we could throw around links to tweets and videoclips and tumblr and reddit posts all we want, but it's fair for people who plays games to not consider themselves as part of gamer culture and the like
She also got this.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/tRhy7HE.jpg[/t]
and a guy from kotaku got a female character that he had criticised in his press pass too
She really knows how to stir a bunch of shit up about something she knows nothing about though, all things considered I will applaud her for that.
how the pro-gg side keeps finding these batshit connections that turn out to be true.
Well if you claim absolutely everyone is connected to everyone else you're bound to be right at least some of the time
I mean we could throw around links to tweets and videoclips and tumblr and reddit posts all we want, but it's fair for people who plays games to not consider themselves as part of gamer culture and the like
True, And I mean, I take the position where I really don't think it is fair to uncategorize yourself from something to disassociate yourself from it.
Here's an example.
I'm a soldier in the SS but I don't consider myself a nazi because of the connotations it puts forth.
I mean... If you play games, you are a gamer, if you do not play games then you aren't.
There is no choosing what you get to be considered in life. You are judged based on your actions.
Ifyou lie about something and then blatantly cover it up with a shitty technicality like "i don't consider myself a gamer, but i do play games!!!1" then you will be judged a liar.

This is a common view from academic feminism and sexism/racism. I agree that it's beyond stupid, but it's silly to think that TONS of people don't fully agree with her. In fact, the more educated a person is, especially in the humanities, the more likely they probably are to agree with her.

That's because it's the ACADEMIC definition of sexism, which is not equivalent to the COMMON definition of sexism.
Same thing for "Racism = power+prejudice".

Right, but students who went through academia are told to agree with it. So it may have started in the university, but it will, and has already, started to spread into common usage. There's not a black and white line between academic usage and common usage when it comes to social ideas.
If a study were done, I would be willing to bet that the average person who describes themselves as a 'strong feminist' would agree with that definition of racism and not with the one you call the 'common definition.'

Just becasue it's academic doesn't mean it's not complete shit.

Plenty of people do agree with her. That's sort of the problem. They have this deluded worldview that sexism against men can't happen. That men are always the aggressors. That it's okay for women to physically attack men because men can take it and women generally can't do as much damage physically. That mothers are by default better parents than fathers.
I've read through countless stories of guys being utterly fucked over by this garbage. Of fathers losing their kids to drunk, neglectful, abusive mothers. All because of the preconception that men are the de facto bad guy. Fuck the people who perpetuate this. Horrible, monstrous, miserable goblins the lot of them.

This is the definition in a sociological context, and I'm sure if you go to university/college, the fact that the academic/sociological definition and the common definition are different will be explained along with the definition.
Hell my 8th grade social studies class explained how racism technically refers to (in effect) "prejudice+power", and also explained how this is not the common definition of racism. If my Junior High could do it, I don't doubt that higher education can and does do it too.
-snip stupid line-

Real feminism is about destroying this side of inequality as well as the rest, true equality is the goal. Anyone that perpetuates this shit isn't a feminist no more than anyone that thinks we should kill all black people isn't a racist.
I don't want to defend Anita, but this is pretty immature.
Snip wrong thread

Also the liberal academia brainwashing argument? seriously?
Why is it every time you argue with anyone you start projecting extremes like "Liberal academia brainwashing conspiciry" and "SJW ruining everything conspiracy".
How the fuck did you get that from the fact "Student is taught something, takes schools word"
Like holy fuck I would hope so, am I supposed to pay for a school to teach me bullshit and lies all while trying to disagree with everything? Why would I expect that and not expect to learn new things?

lol everyone should know CapellanCitizen's MO by now

Ironically stupid and immature outrage at Sarkeesian (or rather the mere thought that she could dare critique video games from a feminist perspective) is what catapulted her into fame in the first place. This really just shows that Sarkeesian's hate club hasn't learned their lesson

Actually, you're right. Looking at the comment again it really isn't alleging that professors are doing this deliberately, so what I said was stupid. I'll strike the line

Then real feminism should remove the ambiguity and call itself egalitarianism. Because feminism at large has been taken over by female supremacists.
Then real feminism should remove the ambiguity and call itself egalitarianism.
You're right, there shouldn't be any specialized doctors, they should all call themselves general practitioners.
Identifying as a feminist does not preclude identifying as an egalitarian

When her thing was first announced, I was pretty indifferent, and thought the reaction proved her points better tan her videos ever would, which I guess is still sort of the case, but I really thing she's someone who makes lazy, shallow and ignorant criticisms that gets far more respect than she deserves. But yeah, I guess the people who made her a martyr deserve a large part of the blame.

I know it doesn't. I really know it doesn't. But this is becoming difficult. Because feminism has turned into this thing that doesn't just represent a desire for equality. It's turned into this thing that represents a desire for more than equality.
Then real feminism should remove the ambiguity and call itself egalitarianism. Because feminism at large has been taken over by female supremacists.
It's an old name kept since the original feminist movement in the 60's and shit mate. Call it what you want, but inequality hurts men and women equally, that's one of few ways we're actually equal in this world at this point.
This is a common view from academic feminism and sexism/racism. I agree that it's beyond stupid, but it's silly to think that TONS of people don't fully agree with her. Its an extremely flawed view.
It actually doesnt help anything and saying its "academic" as an excuse really comes off as rather pretentious(not calling you that)
Because if you start applying it to actual issues, its gonna start to get really 1 sided really quickly. If you believe for whatever reason, sexism against men doesnt exist then your going into whatever problems you wanna tackle biasedly.
If this is what academics are teaching then people getting into these humanities field then its a serious ripoff.
I would love it for someone to explain to me who knows more of this on why this academic version is useful in anyway. How can this line of thought be beneficial for humanity work? Seriously I really do want this explained because I am curious. I know what its trying to say but at the same time its so backwards and wrong, in fact its so wrong that just trying to say what Anita said is sexist in itself vs Men.
So they're pissed that she's a feminist, and we're pissed that she's a bad feminist, right?
No, we're pissed she's a sexist that flaunts herself as a feminist and has a following that eats out of her hand while she says extremely dumb things. For example, she made a tweet bitching about the Dishonored 2 devs not making it a female-player-character-only game during E3.
When her thing was first announced, I was pretty indifferent, and thought the reaction proved her points better tan her videos ever would, which I guess is still sort of the case, but I really thing she's someone who makes lazy, shallow and ignorant criticisms that gets far more respect than she deserves. I'm still not entirely sure what someone getting shit on on the internet "proves" exactly, other than "people get shit on on the internet". Which I think we all already know.

As it is often said, "I'm not racist but..." is a phrase often uttered by racists themselves.
