Valve has added new Compendium stretch goal rewards

The stretch goals aren't too bad. Honestly, look at it from Valve's perspective.
You made this compendium with stretch goals that go far beyond what most people thought could be achieved. What do you do when suddenly, in a matter of days, every single one of those stretch goals is fulfilled?
You can't exactly promise more crazy stuff, as they haven't even released the ORIGINAL stretch goals. So they make rewards that are easy to implement, yet still useful. Jesus, is Valve being unreasonable, or are WE? Cut them some slack, I don't think ANYONE saw this coming.
These goals are pretty shitty compared to the first ones considering the amount of money needed for them.

This isn't exactly reasonable, which is out of character for Valve.
Valve didn't expect the 6 million to be reached so early. Of course the new rewards are shitty compared to the previous ones. They didn't have much time to think about new ones.
erm the international is free to watch
Is it? I just assumed that the compendium was what allowed access.
I bought one instantly and everyone I know who plays it did as well, and you needed a ticket last year so...
and you needed a ticket last year
No, I'm fairly sure you didn't?
No, I'm fairly sure you didn't?
Maybe its just my memory then, I thought I had to purchase a ticket to watch 2013.
Currently everyone gets one of these from the present at level 4 though: International 2013 Pass, which when I saw I assumed it was so that they could watch the past international games for free.
How fucking greedy can you get? Most devs would update their games and player models for free let alone $8 million for a single model. The whole of Valve is slowly starting to become some merchant tier company with the current state of early access, green light and now this.
what stretch goal is there for hl3

The majority of the cash is going to the prize pool for the tournament, terrifyingly selfish.

25:75 ratio isn't a majority.

The compendium costs £5.99 and £2.50 from that goes to the pool. You shouldn't use updating your game as an incentive.

You're talking about the best F2P model on the market where literally everything is free except cosmetics that you also get by playing the game from random drops or level ups and it also gets updated frequently. The only F2P game that can compare is Path of Exile
This compendium stuff is crowdfunding tournament's prize pool with stretch goal rewards, not "pay 8 mil and we will update the game."
It baffles me how you can say something so dumb and ignorant like that. Do you know anything about the game?
quite a fair bit of this money is coming from the buyable compendium points where people get items so people arn't exactly increasing the prize pool to get a chance to vote on a rework or a simple taunt, they just went items and the stretch goals are there on top of that.

You didn't have to buy a ticket to watch last year and not now either; When you buy a compendium you get access to in-game spectating and commentary. If you don't you call still watch it on Twitch.

I don't think they're supposed to be exclusive things, just something they'll shift their focus to if they reach it. I hate to sound like a dumb fanboy, but I don't think they're just trying to extort us before giving us new models, they would probably do it anyway, just it wouldn't be their top priority. Also, this is "choose which hero you want updated" not "any hero will get updated"
I don't really give a shit that Valve is making 75% of the money from this tournament. It's an optional thing that isn't denying content to you like DLC does. If people willingly give them money for some chance to win a hat or in a tournament who cares.
Dota is for nerds

You can start by joining a populated server. :v:

You can watch the international in game with or without a compendium.
Hell, you don't even need one to get item drops for spectating.

You do know 25% of the cash goes towards TI4's reward money right?
You DO also know that the goals just mean that those things will be prioritized in development and be released sooner, right?
They would still do it, even if none of this ever happened.
Just by the way, you aren't one of those angry one-time posters on dev.dota that accuses everyone of being a "volvo knight" whenever they don't agree with your rant, are you?
Techies after the International!!
Shit, that means there might be more hidden stretch goals further on.
Maybe they just made all the good stretch goals hidden.

Techies after the International!!
should be unveiled only on all star match, then released/used after international
So far they've raised 6 million for this event.
Afaik only a small percentage of the sales goes to the actual championship prize of up to 11mil.
Valve itself is making tens of millions perhaps even hundreds
You're talking about the best F2P model on the market where literally everything is free except etc.
You have no clue on how this works. most of the people end up paying more on this single game than they would on a classic purchase of a full game-yours forever.
It's because they make it almost impossible for you to resist the temptation of buying their stuff in the virtual shop. I know of people who have spent thousands in this game or tf2.

they kind of have to rent out the huge fucking theatre that the tournament is taking place at, fly out all these dota players and get them fancy hotels, etc. it's not all raw profit.
