I feel like most people reading this would want to (if only slightly) be an Satanist
I'd rather not thanks. I'd rather be taken seriously in the discussion of religion(s).
[editline]18th September 2014[/editline]
Or any in general for that matter.
The Satanic Temple, a New York-based organization, said Monday it decided to supply religious pamphlets related to its tenets and philosophy to protest the dissemination of Bibles in the school district by evangelical Christians.
Not an exercise in pissing people off, just an exercise in pointing out that passing out bibles near/on school property is stupid.
I love how all the answers for the word finder and that letter mix up game are stuff like love, compassion, friendship
Aw fuck I hate word jumbles
My brain isn't made for that
I pinched these tenets from the Satanic temple's website, if anybody else is interested.

Doesn't sound so satanic now.
At the same time, these are the Eleven Satanic Rules of Earth:
1.Do not give opinions or advice unless you are asked.
2.Do not tell your troubles to others unless you are sure they want to hear them.
3.When in another's lair, show them respect or else do not go there.
4.If a guest in your lair annoys you, treat them cruelly and without mercy.
5.Do not make sexual advances unless you are given the mating signal.
6.Do not take that which does not belong to you, unless it is a burden to the other person and they cry out to be relieved.
7.Acknowledge the power of magic if you have employed it successfully to obtain your desires. If you deny the power of magic after having called upon it with success, you will lose all you have obtained.
8.Do not complain about anything to which you need not subject yourself.
9.Do not harm young children.
10.Do not kill non-human animals unless you are attacked or for your food.
11.When walking in open territory, bother no one. If someone bothers you, ask him to stop. If he does not stop, destroy him.
Sometimes LaVeyan Satanism is decently reasonable and modern. Sometimes it brings out the 3edgy5me shit about 'lairs' and 'mating signal' and advocating murder and reads like it was written by a high schooler. I can't figure out why.
I think this thread might be possessing my browser, my shockwave plugin keeps crashing when I load the page

reminder that the satanic temple (not LaVayan) is not at all the same thing as the church of satan (LaVayan)
[editline]17th September 2014[/editline]
the church of satan is the weirdo randian thing, the satanic temple is not
Satanism is pretty cool, but very misunderstood.
This is starting to feel like a joke that has been taken way past the point of unfunny-ness...
It's actually quite charming.
Flaming Americans. Never cease to amaze me with new levels of stupidity that come every flipping day.

What's unfunny is how they didn't involve more coloring pages. Those are fantastic.
This is starting to feel like a joke that has been taken way past the point of unfunny-ness...
Who are you to say that this is a joke?
This is absolutely amazing.

Church of Satan has been a thing since 1966. There are also numerous other groups with the same M/O. They embody the concepts of respect, enlightenment, controlled enjoyment of life, mutual respect, and opposing those that would ask for blind and unquestioning obedience. "Satan" just means "one who opposes". You also have Luciferianism which focuses on the concept of Lucifer as the modern state of the titan Prometheus as one who bears light and wisdom and shares it freely regardless of the consequences.
One of the (at least LaVeyan) Satanism's bases is to help those who ask for it, and not anyone. So, quite no, I guess.
I kind of like that idea on a religious level, because it's basically saying "don't be one of those door-to-door nuts telling people you're trying to help save their eternal soul and all that. If somebody hasn't expressed interest don't try to force it on them"
Also I know someone already brought up that the Satanic Temple is basically a troll group out having a good time, but aren't they fundamentally separate from laveyan?
personally I'd love a 'satanic activity book' where nothing in it hints at any religious ties and it just gives good everyday advice

the mating thing I understand, it gets the point across objectively without skirting the issue or trying to be PC about it. it's more to the sense that "it has to be fucking blatant they want to do the do", not "hey dude I think she looked over here a few times, she totally wants it".
As for "lair", yeah that sounds kind of melodramatic, but so does 'domain' and I can't think of any other words at the moment short of "personal space", but that comes out vague to the point. If someone's in your home, your car, your personal space, whatever, if they're not treating you with respect they don't reserve the right to stay there. Treat them in kind or kick them out
Satanic math produces a really strange graph of 1+2.
where can i get one
They follow the Satanic Bible, written by a guy known as Anton LaVey (the founder of Satanism, and thus called LaVeyan Satanism after him) - Their basic beliefs are individualism, epicureanism, egoism, secularism, and self-deification, and they also tend to be firm believers in naturalism, Social Darwinism, and the principle of an eye for an eye (or Lex Talionis.)
They also believe in the practice of magic, and mind you they don't actually worship Satan or any devils/demons - they use him more like a symbol because he represents everything their creed stands for. Denominationally, Satanism is an atheistic philosophy. They don't believe in any greater forces influencing how the world works.
Not quite right. You are describing the Satanic Church, whire the authors of this pamphlet are they are The Satanic Temple. They are not affiliated.
The satanic temple is best described as.. humanitarianism & secularism, really. They adopted satan as a symbol of rebellion and fight for a worthy cause even in the face of all adversity and overwhelming power. (Milton's satan).
What they do is mostly call religious groups out on their bullshit, and this latest stunt just proves that- they show how upset people will get at something like this, but if catholics and mormons and jeowahs witnesses do this all the time, why shouldn't they? Either everyone or (ideally) no one should.
these are the 7 tenets:
THERE ARE SEVEN FUNDAMENTAL TENETS.
-One should strive to act with compassion and empathy towards all creatures in accordance with reason.
-The struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit that should prevail over laws and institutions.
-One’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone.
-The freedoms of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend. To willfully and unjustly encroach upon the freedoms of another is to forgo your own.
-Beliefs should conform to our best scientific understanding of the world. We should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit our beliefs.
-People are fallible. If we make a mistake, we should do our best to rectify it and resolve any harm that may have been caused.
-Every tenet is a guiding principle designed to inspire nobility in action and thought. The spirit of compassion, wisdom, and justice should always prevail over the written or spoken word.
yeah nah they're very different, but they are both at their core intended to be satirisation and mockery of ingrained religious cultures
Sometimes I have to wonder is Satan is actually a Prometheus-like figure who was attempting to aid man and the Bible makes him out to be horrible and slanders him for this reason.
After all, in the Bible, God is a dick. He just is. Pastors will try and tell you that "he sacrificed his only son so clearly he loves us" but he also almost wiped all of us out because we liked what he didn't like, and sending someone else to die for others isn't some kind of glorious fucking thing.
Yahweh (or whatever ye shall call him) is, like all other Gods from the time (such as Zeus or Odin or really any god or father of the gods) is a petty dick who commits genocide whenever humans do things that he, for some unexplained reason, dislikes.
So yeah, it would make sense that maybe Satan was actually the good guy.
These Satanic Temple guys are pretty cool, actually. I remember reading another news thread on this very forum about them being cool and stuff.
However they probably chose the worst name ever, apart from "Hitler Did Nothing Wrong".

Don't forget, when his son died he just came back from the dead three days later, so really he didn't give up anything. And after that, he went home.
It makes it rather meaningless to offer your life for anyone and then effectively negate that offering in a short span. It's like the only thing he actually gave the people at the time was another person suspended from a piece of wood that we could shove a spear into every so often.
Then there's that whole "he could've called down an army of angels" crap when really, why would he? What is he really giving up? And didn't it also say the angels wept? Why would they, wouldn't he be going to Heaven anyway? If it was because he was suffering, it would've been a short period compared to this eternity of bliss they keep going on about. Unless it's a case of "Oh fuck he died, now we'll have to move that Foosball table out of his room so he has somewhere to sleep".
Holy shit orange county florida?
I'll let you guys know if I actually do get a copy or not
I wonder if this will be in ovhs
I didn't think the church of devil would actually have rules and commandments to follow. I just thought it boiled down to "raise hell and sin like you've never sinned before".
