I didn't think the church of devil would actually have rules and commandments to follow. I just thought it boiled down to "raise hell and sin like you've never sinned before".
That's kinda the point.
Sometimes LaVeyan Satanism is decently reasonable and modern. Sometimes it brings out the 3edgy5me shit about 'lairs' and 'mating signal' and advocating murder and reads like it was written by a high schooler. I can't figure out why.
The Church of Satan doesn't advocate murder or, really, breaking the law at all necessarily. Much of the language written in the book is designed to be melodramatic. The Satanic Bible often makes reference to "destroying" your enemies, but that doesn't mean killing them. It's more like destroying their importance; making them as insignificant in your life as possible by whatever means works for you.
-snip I did some research for once :v-
Man, I used to be so anti-satanism, but these rules are actually quite good. (other than the whole 'destroy your enemy' thing)
~You're not supposed to read it literally~
I think I need to go through my copy again. It's been like 2+ years since I've read through it.
Where did the Cerberus' other two heads go?
~You're not supposed to read it literally~
understanding the points made in this book on a literal level are still far more reasonable than the stretches I've heard from people who go around quoting whatever bible they carry. I really don't give a shit if the writer was trying to sound edgy, the points made are blunt because it's not trying to sell you a parachute full of holes. The writings boil down to "treat yourself well by only keeping the good things in your life"
I thought Satanists just wanted to piss of Christians
I thought Satanists just wanted to piss of Christians
There's like five different types of Satanism. First, there's atheists who just want to piss off Christians and label themselves as Satanists, but don't really do anything other than co-opt satanic symbols. They don't really organize or do anything except wear pentagrams sometimes. Second, there's atheists who have an organized belief system, and call themselves Satanists metaphorically - they treat the whole God/Devil thing as a myth, and identify with the other side. They don't really do any magic or occult stuff, and any ceremonial stuff is more psychological than anything else. LaVeyan Satanism and most of its descendents fall under this group. Third is what I call "atheism-as-religion" - they have rituals and a hierarchy and typically try to preach their beliefs, but they still don't actually believe in a god or devil (at least not in the traditional sense - some types seem kind of pantheistic). So they act very much like a religion except theologically. Fourth are the weird ones that actually have a (more-or-less) coherent set of religious beliefs. Some go under the name Luciferians rather than Satanists, but they're pretty much the same. Many actually consider Lucifer as a good figure - one in particular, whose name escapes me, holds that God created Satan to do his will on Earth, as an imperfect being is needed to exist in an imperfect world. Fifth are the dumbasses who don't know shit about satanism, just that it pisses their parents off. Absolutely none of the actual satanists want to be associated with them. Fuck these guys.
Lucifer means bringer of light or the morning star. In Isaiah 14 it tells of how Lucifer fell from the heavens because he thought the way the Lord was treating humanity and the angels was unjust and he himself wanted to rule over it all, he fought with the Lord and in the process killed his own and hurt the land he wanted to protect. The Lord throws him into Hell, a resting place for things that have died. But the reason he did this is not because he challenged his rule, it's because he hurt everyone around him in doing so. So I don't think Lucifer is a dick here because he just wanted things to change. But God isn't either because he was only upset that Lucifer created conflict out of his desire and hurt others, not that he challenged his rule. And so all of this is just a shining star of a lesson that's supposed to show you that you don't have to fight for what you want when you haven't even tried asking for it. Which is something apparently Satan worshippers have realized but somehow others haven't.
