Why Michael Ironside won't return for Splinter Cell: Blacklist

I thought Conviction's change in gameplay made sense, in that Sam was a little more pissed off and action-hero like instead of super secret Third Echelon stealth agent.
Though I'd be lying if I said SC:CT wasn't the best gameplay wise.

Thats different, because the franchise has been going on for nearly 50 years.

What's your point? Just look how well that ended up.

This isn't Splinter Cell. This is Duty Calls. Fuck Ubisoft.
The only thing I don't like about the new voice actor is that it is such a generic action hero voice compared to Michael Ironside's gruff, grizzled, and aging voice; and that kind of reflects the rest of the game thus far. I was never really a Splinter Cell fan, but I did enjoy Conviction. Still not sure if I'll be buying it or not, though.
The reason? With Blacklist's focus on agile forward-movement, Ubisoft needed an actor capable of motion capture and performance. Consequently, the 62-year-old Ironside is out, and 32-year-old Eric Johnson, known for his role as Whitney Fordman on Smallville, is the new Sam Fisher.
Or, you know, take a fucking page from Hollywood and just dub Ironside's voice in. You know, like they've been doing in localized dubs and animations for the last fifty fucking years?
Darth Vader? The actor who portrayed him was some scrawny white guy in that black armor. James Earl Jones, THE voice of Darth Vader? Never left a recording booth during production.
...as for the idea of having someone do the physical movements and laying on someone else`s voice? Come on, guys.
As for the idea of Sam Fisher getting more bad-ass the older he gets? Come on, guys.
Bloody fool.
It's looking like it wants to do what Syphon Filter would be doing if it were actually being made for Consoles again.
This might be the best Splinter Cell yet, but you bias prevents this realization from ever happening. So while everyone else are having a blast playing the best game ever, you'll hate it because another person is doing the voice. You're ruining it for yourself.
It's called taste, and having standards. Nothing makes it better than the other ones except ones personal opinion, there is no universal omniruling that will make it the best one ever or worst. I don't care for the direction the series is going in, and doubly don't care for another person to be behind the voice that until now has defined the main character for me; I haven't ruined anything because I have no interest in the series at this point -- it's not of my taste anymore. As surprising as this apparently is to you, some people don't settle for less simply because the event exists; that's called having a standard. Try and grasp perception.

Crap argument. Craig already proved that he could do the role just fine in Casino Royale. Quantum's script had to be fudged by him and the director because of a writer's strike.
Why can't we just have another SC like Chaos Theory? Is that too much to ask for? All these action oriented SC games are just lame. The old games used to be about stealth and planning and now they are about shooting everything that moves.

In a perfect world we would have both. I love SC; it's easily my favorite Splinter Cell. But I also genuinely enjoyed Conviction so I don't particularly mind having more of that.
The Tom Clancy brand for video games is just going down the drain.
I can't wait to see what they do with the next Rainbow Six.
The E3 gameplay trailer was basically "Press X to Win" Quick! Guy is in front of you, press x to snap his neck! Oh no! A room filled with AK-holding, deaf, and slightly blind terrorists! Press X once to murder all of them! Oh yeah, and it's in daylight, eugh. This is not the Splinter Cell I loved playing. This is some kind of...thing.

In the Patriots demo, you had x-ray vision that let you see people even if they were behind a car. :suicide: And the new Ghost Recon? Those squad tactics are gone, GONE!
All those fuckin' executions and scripted events and shit, fuck that. I've played through Conviction just to see what happens with the storyline, and that shit's awful.
The COOP was slightly fun with all the running and neck-snapping action with your friend, but every level was at max a 30minute run, unlike the good old SC where every fucking level was hell on earth.
Sad.
