I’m so tired of (X)Gate. Wish we could do something more original

(X) Plot. The old version of (X)gate.
Gunpowder Plot
July 20 Plot
Etc.
I haven't really seen a 'gate' name catch on for this, some have been thrown around but the most common name I've seen is 'Trump-Russia'

I still favor House of Tards after the series. That would probably be the funniest name.

"Stupid Watergate" has some traction, thanks to Oliver, but it's not universal.
It'll probably just be called Trumpgate or something, I don't really care what it's called as long as they get that asshole out.
I think I saw "Goldengate" once or twice, but like Zone, I think "House of Tards" is a good one.

House of Tards is good but too offensive.
Stupid Watergate is my personal fave
(Watergate Speedrun, Any% (WR!))
Call it what it is, Stupidgate. Cause they're all too stupid to cover their tracks.

Personally, I think the Watergate comparisons really undersell the severity of the Russia collusion story. Breaking and entering to spy on the DNC (and then cover it up) is small potatoes to colluding with a hostile foreign nation to swing a Presidential election (and then not only refuse to punish them but passively encourage them to keep it up), on top of all the other interconnected conspiracies being unearthed such as the Rosneft transaction, the attempt at lifting the Magnitsky Act for the benefit of Putin, the online troll farms that go as far back as 2014, Kushner's own shady dealings, etc.
Watergate's fucking nothing in comparison. Nixon engaged in what effectively amounted to illegal political espionage, and then tried to cover it up. Trump's actively collaborating with an international espionage operation with a hostile state. He's covering up electoral interference, actively benefited from a foreign state's domestic propaganda campaign, implicated in a clandestine money laundering operation and real estate fraud, and his campaign staff are linked to trading major oil business shares for political favors (eliminating Russia sanctions and Rosneft).
Trump's a part of a gigantic international criminal conspiracy. Nixon covered up a domestic political espionage attempt. This isn't a dumb version of Watergate - it's unparalleled in U.S. history. Nothing like this has ever happened.

Ok considering the charges were Conspiracy against the United States, I want to know just what the FUCK kind of info Gates gave them to make Mueller let him off the hook.

If they are recommending a full dismissal of charges against Gates for crimes of the magnitude he's being accused of, he must have been able to provide some absolutely critical testimony.

I saw a comment on Reddit's r/Politics section that gave some good perspective of how big this is (emphasis is mine) - "The information Gates is supplying is worth dismissing charges of over 70 million in tax fraud and money laundering."

Personally I think he's got info that'll let Mueller nail Kusher, Donald Jr. or Trump himself. Can't think of anything else that could get him completely off the hook like this.

Man, that is a pretty compelling argument. I thought there was some real merit to this investigation up 'til now, but it's hard to deny Trump's logic.

I'm guessing at minimum enough to convict Manafort to multiple life sentences in any court in the country. And probably materials from Trump himself directing the whole thing, proving that everything Trump has said denying his involvement has been a lie all along.

Agreed. Mueller already has Manafort dead to rights, so Gates testimony to pile on the evidence against Manafort isn't really needed. If that were all he were offering, he might get a reduced sentence, but certainly not a full dismissal of charges. The only way that Gates is extended a plea deal that fucking juicy is if he is able to offer testimony and evidence that completely sinks somebody much higher in the food chain. There aren't many people higher in that food chain.
I gotta say, when vague accusations over Russia started circulating I did not expect them to bear fruit like this. This is on a greater and more severe scale than I could have possibly expected. Now I just wonder how deep the rabbit hole actually is.

I mean, it's only speculation, but I really don't think a deal this sweet would have been offered for information against Manafort. Mueller already has him dead to rights on charges that are practically guaranteed to land him in prison for the rest of his natural life. Piling on more charges to Manafort is good from a tactical standpoint, to increase pressure for a flip, but I don't think Gates would be given a completely free ride out of this just for a bit more evidence on Manafort. I mean, think about it: they got Gates on the same crimes as Manafort, with the same evidence. If what they had was conclusive enough for Gates to see a plea deal as his only escape, it's also conclusive enough to convict Manafort. Why offer Gates an out if all he had to offer was more evidence on Manafort?
Consider this: every crime Manafort committed, Gates was party to. He was Manafort's right-hand man and co-conspirator. Everything Manafort was guilty of, Gates was guilty of too. Everything Manafort knew, Gates knew too. If Manafort had evidence that could prove criminal conspiracy at the highest level of the campaign, there is a very realistic chance that Gates would too.
There's three tweets preceding that one if you want some context
Yeah, I read them already. They are just quotes from Fox commentators and right-wing supporters incessantly insisting that there is "NO EVIDENCE," despite there being an overwhelming amount of evidence.
I know this is over-said but I just can't read that fucking email and comprehend that those words are coming from the brain of MY PRESIDENT.
I know this is over-said but I just can't read that fucking email and comprehend that those words are coming from the brain of MY PRESIDENT.
Most likely, the email was just ghost-written and sent in his name (and, of course, he would endorse/approve the contents of the message if/when he was asked to). This is typically something that celebrities, political figures, etc. do with social media - they have other people post information for them and manage their online presence or "brand".
...of course, POTUS' Twitter account is a rather unfortunate exception! :v:
this is great but im laughing at a stupid thought: what if it turns out that they all came up with this plan and executed it genuinely without trump's knowledge? like trump is just a child who has no idea what's going on while all his staff do everything for him, including collude with russia?
I think it's still unclear whether or not Trump was involved based on what we have so far, but I think what's most incriminating is the possible Obstruction of Justice case mounting against him. Trump has and is continuing to build a very strong case against himself in terms of willfully and intentionally impeding the Mueller investigation.
Manafort is the key to really turning this case inside out. How his prosecution and possible sentencing go will indicate a lot about the nature of this case and what Trump's place is in it.
