he's gonna be pushing up against people with lots of money doing this, similar to what bernie would have come up against with his financial transaction tax and such. this being trump though he's doing something that would cause a economic crisis and solely for the reason of building a big wall lol
Mexican Coke is gonna cost like twice as much ;-;
So not only are we going to get into a trade war with Mexico, we are also going to crash our economy. ...nice.

Just in case people missed it, as an example of why this is bad.
Any move by the United States to withdraw from NAFTA or to otherwise restrict automotive vehicle, parts and components trade within North America will result in higher costs to producers, lower returns for investors, fewer choices for consumers, and a less competitive U.S. automotive and supplier industry. Counter to the incoming Trump Administration’s goal of creating manufacturing jobs the withdrawal from NAFTA or the implementation of punitive tariffs could result in the loss of at least 31,000 U.S. automotive and parts jobs
Sauce And that is ignoring price changes
Why? Canada is great, and the us doesn't really mind you.
Canada's economy is largely dependent on the us economy iirc and thus probably isn't a great place to hide from economic collapse in the United States.
Goodbye DOW Jones 20k, this could tank the market if true
When the building falls it tends to do damage to the surrounding areas. Canada is fucked too.
I told my parents about everything trump has done since the inauguration and some of the things they said: "good, so? who cares?" (about the 20% tax) "OMG YOU'RE SO LIBERAL AND STUPID YOU DONT KNOW." (after I said Trump is going to economically and environmentally ruin this country) "WHAT HAS MEXICO DONE FOR OUR COUNTRY? THEY'RE RUN BY A DRUG CARTEL" (discussing the wall/tax) "THE WALL IS GREAT" (discussing the wall) "Trump has done more than Obama has done in a week" deflecting on other presidents like most trump supporters do it seems "what news do you read? news just tries to find the bad they don't talk about any of the good he's done so far" (when discussing them trying to censor the media) Lol... help guys, I really don't understand how this is even coming out of my parent's mouths.

would this mean tesla model 3's will become the cheapest new auto cars on the market since they are purely manufactured in the US. while everyone else is forced to raise their prices because of this
Wasn't there some kind of trade deal between Mexico, Canada and US that Canada can walk away from now?
I hope the voting population learns just how badly they fucked this one up.
Wait 50-200 years and see.
Wasn't there some kind of trade deal between Mexico, Canada and US that Canada can walk away from now?
It's called NAFTA. Don't worry, Trump wants to tear it up and renegotiate it, too. Which would be the dumbest shit ever, because about the only Americans who lost out in NAFTA was a small range of unskilled labour. Canada is the US's primary trading partner and the US already gets a great deal out of NAFTA, but it's not enough for Donald "America First" Trump.
Video games and movies are gonna suffer heavily from this, because discs are manufactured in Mexico general.
They'll probably just relocate. Pressing discs costs next to nothing compared to every other expense.
who does this help no seriously, someone who voted this jackass in tell me how does this help anyone

If Mexican companies raise pices by 20%, they're done. They can't raise the prices so they need to look for alternatives, which means most of them are probably done. Now, I dislike this move as I am not a protectionist as much as Trump, but I can see how he played that Mexican president who thought he can push POTUS around (LOL). Also, this might be prelude to American-Mexican trade war, but my best guess would be Trump is counting on Mexico to break and start talking about co-funding THE WALL, considering the possible damage to their economy. Those people who cry "doom" - get a grip. Least you could do is use facts agains these movements, but I guess ignorance is a bliss, especially if thanks to it you can get the attention you so desperately need.

The US imports a lot of stuff from Mexico, if they raise prises, US won't have that many options left for a lot of stuff.

If he doesn't, what do you think the Mexican people will say? And hopefully Mexico dragging this out will produce international reactions against this whole disgrace.
How would they be done? But the same options also sits for Mexico, they could export somewhere else if they are buying. And perhaps some countries see to make use out of the situation. It has most likely net-negative effect for US.

Trump is extremely disliked down there.
If Mexican companies raise pices by 20%, they're done. While it would likely hurt Mexico more, pretending that the US would suffer no significant repercussions (such as losing 31000 automotive industry jobs as I've posted earlier) is absolutely ridiculous. Not to mention, there is also the consideration to be made that some companies would be able to ride out any tariffs till Trump is gone with a slight increase in price when levied against the cost of having to relocate the factory.
Well I think lossing an over 300 mil. consumer market would hit Mexico pretty hard. Honestly, there is possibly no better market to be in than the US. Which is why US have always been so protectionist. They have to balance between free trade and globalization and protecting their own economy. I guess Trump wants to tip the balance more in favour of the US in-country production, but I guess it's impossible to actually make the situation better, when loosing "the war" on the home-front. The whole situation reminds me of how in Poland there are two parties who get elected "diagonally", and whenever they need some propaganda, their rat on each other to the EU, while the country's economy suffers because of shitty PR. The dems could burn the US to the ground if that could get them to where the power is. Which is what they do. This will go down in history, because I don't think it ever happened that the media would spin shitting on the president of a country to this level. But that's just my two cents. Edit: shit, I took really too long to write this lithany. Of course, that US economic situation will be in for a rougher ride for some time, but I wonder how the situation will develop with the industry coming back to the US and being treated supposedly quite well by Trump administration. This matter is quite complicated, so for now I'd expect either that the US will become the best country on Earth again, or will be absolutely destroyed. However, it's more likely that it will be something in between, with a slight balance tip to one side or the other.

If they increased prices, a lot of companies that import from Mexico probably couldn't just easily cut out those imports right away, they'd have to comply to the increased prices and thus also increase prices for consumers.

They're gonna take the hit for some time, and then look for solution. This is not a solution I would advocate for my own country though, not sure whether US is that much import-dependent.
No one buys physical media anymore
So I guess the $6.1 billion in physical media sales in 2015 (which was after the sales fell 12%) just appeared out of thin air. It's not the most popular medium anymore but it's still a large market. http://fortune.com/2016/01/08/blu-ray-struggles-in-the-streaming-age/

I imagine re-negotiating completely new distribution deals from a completely different market isn't a very easy task.
