This is too good to be true...gotta be a catch.
Great, now tell everyone to NOT pirate these games so it doesn't get ruined for the rest of us.
Guess I'm buying Far Cry 3 then, great.
Looks like I'm getting Assassin's Creed 3 after all.
Was going to pick it up for PS3 instead of PC, looks like I'll be getting it on PC now.
Good. Now I might be willing to buy Ubi products. Their DRM is why I flat refused to play any of them.
That'd require effort.
They've done it in the past with Assassin's Creed 2.
In that case, maybe I'll buy FC3.
Immense respect gained for UbiSoft! Can't wait to get my hands on Watch_Dogs now instead of waiting for an eventual price drop. I mean unless they fuck it up in some other way. I recently wanted to give AC:R a shot, but remembered I was offline, so UPlay shouldn't have worked - but it simply slid into offline mode without even a message. Maybe that's what they mean about the quiet implementation.
As far as I'm aware Assassin's Creed 2 was the only AC title to have the always online, activation limit DRM. After so many complaints they removed it from AC2 and I'm pretty sure Brotherhood and Revelations didn't have it.
Fucking finally they make one intelligent decision. Now guys, we'll have to prove it was the right thing to do by getting that piracy rate down to at least 85%. :downs:
Yay! I liked them even when they had that retarded DRM thing going on, and I'm even more glad they're dropping it.

They release the hostages and NOW we should just forgive and forget? No. Now comes the trial and sentence... Execution. My trust in Ubisoft is slowly rebuilding

Most times I've been in offline mode was because I didn't have any internet. So, when I run steam, it says it can't connect and gives me the option to start in offline mode. I used to have the same issue as you, long, long ago, but I haven't had the problem in a good year or two.
I'll believe it when I see it to be frank. They've said before "Oh X, Y or Z game won't have always on DRM" but then the game comes out and it totally does. The only Ubisoft product I've got in recent years was From Dust which I believe was one of the games they said wouldn't have always on DRM (not too sure about that though) but it turned out it did. Then they said they released a patch removing their shit-tacular DRM which as far as I'm aware is completely false, because my copy still fucking has it.
You have to be online to activate offline mode
no shit. if they let you start it offline, they can't confirm your account is valid on steam.
Ubisoft and Zenimax are my favorite major publishers.
I'll believe it when I see it to be frank.
Steam has an offline mode...
It does, but honestly it works like shit.
It does, but honestly it works like shit.
I don't really see the big deal. If it's a planned period of being offline, you can just switch it to offline before you go.
I'd never thought I'd see the day.
But cant people just share 1 cd key to everyone to give them the game?
You have to be online to activate offline mode
Actually no. I just got back from a hotel for a few days because of a hurricane here. When I got back the power was on, but my internet wasn't. I was able to get onto Steam's offline mode without having any internet access for several days. I think it's just a really unstable system that works differently for everyone.
What is it with you simpletons and whore-ass big titles. Did mommy slap you?

Will PC gamers ever be pleased?
Awesome! Now that they did this, their imaginary piracy rate of 96% will drop drastically!
Bitch and whine about DRM, get angry when they listen to you and remove it. Will PC gamers ever be pleased?
I don't know. Does it help if the rapist is the one to perform the abortion. We're talking about people who treat a service as a paid gift and their customers more like potential criminals than potential buyers. It's absolutely prejudicical and demeaning. Why should i be pleased when they stop? They have a lot of customer relations to improve before i ever buy from them again. Why do they not get that? Why is that not appearant to you?
You have to be online to activate offline mode
You have to save your password for it to work, and a recent update makes it work much better.
Granted it's good for that, but the majority of people complained about Ubisoft's always on DRM for the reason that if at any point your internet cut out you wouldn't be able to access the service; which is exactly the same as Steam. First off, that's an incredibly bad analogy. Being appreciative is what will be the incentive for better services in the future. If they fix something that's bad and you tell them to essentially fuck off it's not likely they're going to fix anything else.
If they can't handle running a customer based business, maybe they should just back and go down burning? [editline]5th September 2012[/editline] It's actually an incredibly fitting analogy. You just want to dismiss it because your American mind can't fathom comparing sensationalistic things to non-sensationalistic subjects. That's not cool. Is it possible for you to post anything in this thread without being a massive, stingy, entitled moron?
