I'm Command Shepard and... I want my Assault Rifle X back.
I blame EA.
Never been interested in ME, but for those that are fans I feel bad for you. Farewell to what was a popular series.
Does everyone here have aspergers, or do they just like assuming the worst? "Aiming for a wider audience" could mean "Amping up the marketing and adding more 'epic' moments like that bit in the GI article that mentioned a Reaper fighting a Thresher Maw" just as much as it could mean "Dumbing it down". You guys are over-reacting worse than when ME2 came out. "Shooter with Dialogue Options", you say? "Fuck You", I say! It had leveling, it had skill advancement, it had quests. Therefore, it's a fucking RPG. Just because it's not complex enough for your autistic brains doesn't mean it's a horrible game and nobody should play it. And the complaints about the DLC? Jesus fucking Christ, this was one of the few games in the industry that had worthwhile DLC instead of 15 dollar map packs and you're STILL complaining? Now this comes along and you guys are already calling it quits just because you choose to interpret a few words negatively when we have no fucking clue what the hell they really mean. You say "farewell, last bastion of good gaming!", and I say "You're a fucking idiot". I'd tell you guys to wait until they explain what exactly they mean, but judging from your reaction to ME2, you're just going to be negative about it either way and you'll never let yourself enjoy quality games because of a few things in it that you personally consider a "flaw". This is why I refuse to identify myself with most gamers like you guys. You people just keep complaining and complaining and over-reacting about minor shit like this, and all I can do is ask myself "These are the people who want videogames to be taken seriously, and they're complaining about shit that's pretty much nothing in the eyes of non-gamers and laid-back gamers?" You guys are everything that's wrong with gamers and the gaming industry. Not the CoD and Halo playing Frat Boys and 12-year olds. It's you guys, the guys who nitpick at every little detail and pretty much view the gaming industry as a glass half-empty. You guys are the reason gaming companiess cater to the other guys. At least those guys don't complain about every little detail of their games and are generally content with the games they play. tl;dr: go fuck yourselves you unpleasable and self-entitled pricks.
Uh, I don't think anyone likes when their deep game become shallow as fuck. There are typically no deep games around any more (except shit like dwarf fortress), and the "king of RPG's" releasing a game even less RPG than the previous title (which was less RPG than the first), then people are going to be mad. That said there is a mass effect sale today First one is $5 Second is $10 Digital deluxe second one is $20 All US equivalent
wait, how is any of this bad news? why are you guys so negative about the fact that they're aiming at a wider market? Are ya'll just THAT anitsocial?
lol *works at bioware
Aiming for a wider audience. AKA Everyone gets breast implants and wear skin tight body suits. v:v:v
Stop making me interested in your games bioware, hope this is just shit they were chatting to their investors This is why I am so glad Valve is not a public company
go fuck yourselves you unpleasable and self-entitled pricks.
I don't know how big that stove is you're sitting on, but turn the gas off and chill out. Folks don't enjoy being pessimistic when it comes to a hobby. However, when it comes to one as expensive as gaming, they have a right to be worried if a beloved franchise might take a turn for the worse. Additionally, if they're concerned about this it's probably because they may have had experiences with past titles (unless they enjoy hopping on the hate bandwagon). For me, two that come to mind are Legacy of Kain and King's Field. In LoK, the three games after Blood Omen and Soul Reaver had very little replay value as the first two had free roam elements with plenty of hidden powers and abilities to discover. As far as King's Field goes, in the first game, some foes were incredibly challenging and random items would drop frequently. In the second game, foes were easy to outwit and item drops were set. Granted, there were good things that came with each transition, but the bottom line is if folks were fairly unhappy about some of the changes in features from ME to ME2, I don't hold it against them for being skeptical about the third entry. However, I will agree with you that people should reserve their final judgements until after they've actually played the final product. Most folks here that seem to have already decided they won't get it are likely just letting off some premature steam and will probably get it anyway. So now I would ask you to keep YOUR judgements to yourself until the game has released and avoid accusing these people of being the gaming industy's downfall.

I've been here for a long time. I know these people just as much as you do. I think I know enough to know that the people in this thread are too damn pessimistic. That needs to change.

Goodbye Mass Effect, I liked you before EA got their greedy hands involved.
Wow one guy from the publisher said something that can be interpreted wrong let's all flip a shit good job guys.

I hate the fact that people are making something out of what's most likely nothing, and that immediately means I'm a console fanboy whose favorite game is halo? Take a long look at my steam games list and get the fuck out. Secondly, I've never played the Dragon Age games, but my brother enjoyed DA2, so you'll need to make a better argument than that.
bioware should of already learned their lesson with DA2... I still don't want a very short game, using the same maps and environment, and many things that people loathe... Bioware, your ideas is to make a grand storyline on every game you made, but that does not mean to make an awful gameplay and short game.
Wow one guy from the publisher said something that can be interpreted wrong let's all flip a shit good job guys.
It's not just that. It's mostly the fact that this has happened before, with disastrous results.
Mass Effect 2 was already pretty "streamlined". I don't see how you could make it any more.
tl;dr: go fuck yourselves you unpleasable and self-entitled pricks.
Are you really trying to say gaming is the most nitpicky industry around? Do you know how many people were crying and whining over facebook after the first Office episode with Will Ferrel aired? What about the film industry and it's "This movie is the best movie I have ever seen, 8/10" film reviewers? Music? Just all of music? Every single person who listens to music knows a specific type or types of music that they absolutely despise, and a lot of them can rail on and on about how inferior it is to "real" music. Or the car industry where with every new generation, you get those autophiles who complain that the lumbar support in the seat is a little favoring to the left side. Or countless other examples. Every industry has it's whiners, you need to learn to deal with it. And the reason game companies tend to cater to the cod players more is because there are a fuckton of them, it has nothing to do with the amount they whine.
If they fuck up Mass Effect 3 I'm gonna be pissed.
Wow one guy from the publisher said something that can be interpreted wrong let's all flip a shit good job guys.
It's Facepunch, did you expect intelligent responses to things like this? If so, please remember: this is Facepunch.
You guys are dumb shits, I know they fucked up with Dragon Age 2 but that was a HEAVY RPG that didn't appeal to many people other than Baldurs Gate/Icewind Dale fans, not many around anymore. How could they mainstream Mass Effect any more than they already have? I think they'll end up combining Mass Effect 1's crafting/inventory/combat in a way that's easier for the average player by mixing it with Mass Effect 2's streamlined gameplay mechanics.

If I was on a forum dedicated to TV and the like and saw similar stuff, I'd probably flip shit there, too.
This could mean anything really, they did say they where adding more RPG elements to the mix. This could mean that they're trying to appeal to an RPG fan base more while holding onto their mediocre/casual gamer audience.
Dragon Age 2 HEAVY RPG
Explain yourself quickly. Do you mean that Dragon Age 2 was a RPG or that they fucked up the aspect of RPG?
as long as drew karpsyshyn is writing the story i dont care
Get ready for Bioware's latest lowest common denominator commercial made mass market shitpile, Mass effect 3.
wait, how is any of this bad news? why are you guys so negative about the fact that they're aiming at a wider market? Are ya'll just THAT anitsocial?
don't you work at bioware? or, didn't you work at bioware?
Waiting patiently for any signs of a Mass Effect 3 trailer. Hopefully with Marilyn Manson's "This is the New Shit" laid over it.
Piss off dedicated fanbase to sell more copies Don't give a fuck
I can't read the article because the computer I'm on (Mac) won't show the RPS page. So I can only guess what it's going say: Bioware is a sell out and is going simplify Mass Effect 3 just to cater to a nooby casual audience while forsaking the hardcore gamers that made Bioware as great as it is now.
