More specifically, he is holds the Chair of Subcommittee on Investigations and Oversight, which you would think that they would need to be open minded.
So ignorance, stupidity, and blind faith must be his guiding truths.
"I believe the Bible is right about a young earth because it says so in the Bible"
That's seriously what I heard when I read his stuff.

The American people disagree with you congressman.
What angers me most about religion is the simple disregard. They look at science's work for the past thousands of years and what do they say? One of the most powerful forces in the world? Nope, it's not right because our book who no one even knows who it's written by says it's not true. And the people believe it, wasting science's hard work.
I can't wait for the 21st of December
Here in the UK, we have a health minister that believes in Homeopathy.
Religion is fucking up the future :(
Oh, so many other things too.
I want someone to give a reason that these things aren't fact other than "I don't believe it because of book that is more that a thousand years old".
How about providing actual proof.

I dont belive in religion because it leaves so much unawnsered, or with just the dumb "God did it" awnser.
Evolution and science just seams to make sense, it leaves everything with a belivable rational awnser.
Edit: Wait, you mean why people dont belive in evolution?

I bet Neil Degrasse Tyson would punch this fucker in the face
Buzz Aldrin style
So he's a medical doctor by trade? A medical doctor is by extension, a scientist or a biologist. How can you go through eight years of med school, learn all of that biology, and then just forget it because you picked up a bible?!
It mostly depends on how he was raised. He probably was religious always. Some people are just stubborn.

I may have worded it strangely
No, he's saying the opposite of that.
This ^
I basically want the stupid religious people who think the bible to explain why their book is the end all and be all.
I have no problem when someone says "I believe in God, even if it's just a possibility"
Why do we even vote for these nutjob congressmen.

He'll point you to the pit of hell that he found in his backyard, where you'll see people in lab coats periodically emerging from.
the fucking house committee on fucking science, space, and technology
I was also amused by the fact that the three things he's denying are each related to one of those subjects.
I saw this in the newspaper a few years ago and every time someone comes out with this stuff it reminds me of it.

Sometimes I feel that if I change the date on my computer to 1492 I can actually say I'm living in that time period.
The thing that makes religion is bad is when they base their world on it, like christianity.
A good religion is a religion that is based on the world, not a religion that the world is based on according to their beliefs.
Think animalism, the worship of nature. It would allow science, you know, if you had that nice girl over there, you would thing she was really nice, and wouldnt it be really awesome to get her to know?
There.

Religion itself is fine, there's nothing wrong with letting people believe in magic omniscient omnipotent wisened old white guys. The problem arises when fanatics show up and don't realise that the bible is open to interpretation.

I posted this story to a religious tolerance group I happen to be a part of, it was interesting to see some of their responses. Even on a religious tolerance page focuses on accepting all views most people did not think this guy should be on the committee. Here is some of their thoughts...
It's sad that a segment of religion in this secular nation has adopted such a strict "literalism" of their holy texts that it causes them a great delusion with regard to science. I personally feel that such a delusion should be sufficient grounds to prevent them from holding office. Requiring people to trust our established and principled institution of science is NOT a religious test as prohibited by the Constitution (Article VI, paragraph 3) as science does not rule on the question of the existence of God, though it would seem to suggest that some parts of some scriptures should not be taken literally, but rather, metaphorically

Since this is a government entity, the way it works here is that this person swore an oath to not allow his religious beliefs to affect his judgement while on the job. He is allowed to have his own views about religion. The intent being that citizens elected to office adhere strictly to the constitution in their decisions. If they do not do so and they violate their oaths of office then they could and should be removed from that office. That's how it's supposed to work... Rarly is that the case.

Did this bozo run unopposed or what? I'd think he could be whipped handily if some small portion of the electorate had any sense at all.

I can't help wondering what a creationist is doing on a scientific committee. That's sort of like an atheist going to a bible study.

I can't comment. I'm so pissed off about Christianity taking over government, I'm likely to insult some nice people here.

“The good thing about science is that it's true whether or not you believe in it.” - Neil DeGrasse Tyson. I believe that a person on the house committee on science should at least believe in the scientific method and be able to except scientific facts. If his beliefs contradict the evidence presented to him and thus his ability to effectively complete his job then I believe that he has a moral obligation to step down from his position.
it hurts
