I should know, I own the fuckin thing.
Me too, still have to get all the way to the end. At least I won it for free in a raffle so I didn't lose out :v:
I hope they pull it off.
Duke didn't do so well in forever as a character because they had shitty writers and just copied what they did in Duke 3D. Whereas when they did it in Duke 3D it was something quite different for a video game. Every bit of talent that was working on DNF pretty much left by the time they had scrapped the 2001 version of the game though, so it never really had a ton of hope as a franchise after that. It's weird, because they were originally had plans to change Duke into an actual developed character, but any interesting direction they were going in died with Broussard's change of attitude from "lets make something unique and awesome" to "let's cram in everything cool everybody else does". It's pretty sad what happened - the leads basically went from trying to make the best game they could to just phoning it in, they traded good ideas for better tech that was always one step behind, and copying whatever was out, so it basically be came a mash up of every other game with some Duke 3D stuff slapped on top of it, mixed with some very poorly written humor.

I bought the game, $60, at launch day and I still haven't beaten it. Got to the dam and dropped it for a good long while because of how boring it was. Played it again a few weeks ago after buying the DLC in hopes of finishing the main campaign so I could do The Doctor Who Cloned Me, and I gave up again when those fucking mini-octobrains tore me to shreds repeatedly in the first underwater section.
oh boy another duke nukem game can we just stop with duke please? i'm not trying to insult duke nukem fan boys but serious sam is 10x better my option and has alot more secrets and exploring and less tits and more gameplay you know stuff thats not for freaking pigs.
less tits
There's a reason nobody likes Sam.
oh boy another duke nukem game can we just stop with duke please? i'm not trying to insult duke nukem fan boys but serious sam is 10x better my option and has alot more secrets and exploring and less tits and more gameplay you know stuff thats not for freaking pigs.
You do realize that's the gameplay has nothing to do with the actual character, right? You can still have a good game in either franchise as long as the developers are actually competent. Duke 3D was like, 5% tits and 95% exploring and gameplay 3D was fun and it was interspersed with tits and humor here and there, DNF was laden with jokes and self-masturbatory references every 5 seconds because that's how the devs made it, not because it was a duke nukem game.
honestly i don't think it's even possible for duke nukem to be entertaining anymore like the humor involved is just so fucking old and repetitive now, there's no development that's possible that "america fuck yeah" was just so cringey maybe the gameplay can be good but i don't think that the humor or content will ever be funny again
isnt that america fuck yeah thing from duke forever and not this new one gosh i hope so what a turd
isnt that america fuck yeah thing from duke forever and not this new one gosh i hope so what a turd
DNF also had a leeroy jenkins joke among other outdated references
god dammit just let it die. this game would have to be impossibly good to repair what DNF did to the franchise's rep
god dammit just let it die. this game would have to be impossibly good to repair what DNF did to the franchise's rep
this line of thought just doesn't sit well with me. if it ends up being a good game, i couldn't care less if it's not the next nuke dukem 3d and if it doesn't "repair the franchise's rep"
My 20c on this is that Duke Nukem sorta-parodied the maze-like-fps genre and action-hero movies of it's time, but as both genres are dead and gone, with the exception of some remakes of the sort (Shadow Warrior being the better executed one in the last couple of years, veeeery nostalgic yet modern) all that duke nukem forever ended parodizing is its current and old self. (and not in a auto-referential way.) I hope for them they will find a way to move on from DNF, perhaps this time keeping more integrity with the maze-like 'oldschool' gameplay (FUCK two weapons at a time restrictions) and taking the humor up a notch. Well, since I mentioned Shadow Warrior before, I'd like to add that I sure hope the next Duke Nukem installment will look up to it.
i'm sorry, duke nukem as a character is simply irrelevant and worn out at this point
I'd say he's become a more nuanced parody
Well good luck on them Same for the people making that new Aliens game, picking up Gearbox's fuckups and fixing them
honestly i don't think it's even possible for duke nukem to be entertaining anymore like the humor involved is just so fucking old and repetitive now, there's no development that's possible that "america fuck yeah" was just so cringey maybe the gameplay can be good but i don't think that the humor or content will ever be funny again
Maybe it's because you've grown too old for Duke Nukem to be funny anymore.
If that's ingame footage, I'd rather shot myself in the foot with a shotgun and play polo. That graphics is so 1999.
Maybe it's because you've grown too old for Duke Nukem to be funny anymore.
or maybe duke nukem as a movie-quoting video game hero is just culturally irrelevant in a world where memes form and die in a span of a week [editline]19th February 2014[/editline]
If that's ingame footage, I'd rather shot myself in the foot with a shotgun and play polo. Even Doom's most common enemies, soldiers and sergeants, are hitscan, didn't make it a bad game. I don't remeber ever getting lost in the game and I definitely can't see how adding new enemies bring the game down to DNF levels, they even kept most if not all of the old enemies. Maybe you didn't like it but to say it's "just as bad as DNF" is bullshit.
Need.
What interests me is that they're labelling it as an action RPG. Sounds like it would be pretty interesting to see. If nothing else, at least it breaks away from the standard FPS.
i'm sorry, duke nukem as a character is simply irrelevant and worn out at this point
Same could be said about yo momma...
If Shadow Warrior and ROTT 2013 were any indication, 3D Realms is going to have another great game.
or maybe duke nukem as a movie-quoting video game hero is just culturally irrelevant in a world where memes form and die in a span of a week
I thought duke's main appeal was how little of an iota of a fuck he gave as a character about his surroundings
If Shadow Warrior and ROTT 2013 were any indication, 3D Realms is going to have another great game.
3D Realms didn't have anything to do with either one development-wise. Honestly I kind of wish Flying Wild Hog was working on it instead of Interceptor. ROTT is actually a really mediocre game when you take off the nostalgia goggles.
So all of the people in here that act like Duke is so stupid must be COD fan boys. Sorry this isn't another COD game (its actually unique). At least the developers aren't in it to make boat loads of money like other franchises. The days of Doom and Duke are sadly gone and we have to wait for shit like COD? No thanks! People forget what a quality game was back then, either that or I'm old and stuck in my ways cause most new games are stupid but some aren't.
Let's hope that this time they make it as awesome as Shadow Warrior, with all the weapons you can carry, plenty of exploration, non-regenerating health, and basically all the stuff that made original FPS fucking awesome. Hopefully have some weapons that are on the Painkiller scale of awesome, and considering Duke I wouldn't put it past them to have a burning gun that has tits attached, and shoots shurikens and lightning.
ROTT is actually a really mediocre game when you take off the nostalgia goggles.
It has a lot of flaws, yes, but it also has something that is really missed today: Pure fun. I never heard about ROTT until reboot, but I simply found it best game of 2013.
Supposedly the Voice of Duke Nukem is on Voice Bunny now.
hopefully after, i'm assuming, all the writers of duke forever were hanged, someone with some brains can write this one.
Wait, DNF had a story?
