Quick question. Going to war with them solves what exactly?
Dude, the entire world is uniting against a malicious power that's threatening world peace and stability. WWI didn't have nukes, it was called WWI because much of the world was involved in a war.
This is pretty much World War-fucking-III, man.
By that metric The Korean war was WW3. The Chinese Communists supported the north, and the UN supported the south.

It makes us feel better. That's all. BDA said what they doing is going to fracture into new orgs and will continue for a long time. Not exact quote but said some thing like that.
Standard for a world war
I classify it as a war that take place on a global scale and the actors are dragging in various "neutrals" into picking a side.
So I would under that consider The Cold War as WW3 and The War on Terror as WW4
