Russia's Black Sea Fleet denies its servicemen are blocking the airport. Another Crimean airport, Simferopol, has also been occupied by armed men, thought to be pro-Russia militia. Relations between the two countries have been strained since Viktor Yanukovych was ousted as Ukrainian president last week.

Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov said Russian soldiers had arrived in Sevastopol military airport near Russia's Black Sea Fleet Base on Friday morning. The men were patrolling outside, backed up by armoured vehicles, but Ukrainian military and border guards remained inside, Mr Avakov said. "I consider what has happened to be an armed invasion and occupation in violation of all international agreements and norms," Mr Avakov said on his Facebook page.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-26379722
Well shit
Let's be honest, we all saw this coming. Nobody really expected Putin to just let go of his new purchase that easily, did they?
Misleading title. Other than that, shit could get serious really fast.
Misleading title. Other than that, shit could get serious really fast.
Ukraine considers it an invasion.
"I consider what has happened to be an armed invasion and occupation in violation of all international agreements and norms," Mr Avakov said on his Facebook page.

Ukraine considers it an invasion.
And I consider it a highly misleading title Russia can't actually threaten our borders because of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Budapest_Memorandum_on_Security_Assurances
Well Ukraine won't dare to do anything about all this, so gg Russia
Aw hell, this could get ugly fast.
And how exactly is it NOT an invasion?
If you don't consider it a legitimate government, as the russian gov don't, then you might not consider it an invasion. Just to make it clear for the raters - I'm not advocating what Russia is doing. It they should hold that referendum before anyone makes any moves.
i'm confused by the status of crimea. i understand the south-western tip(?) is fully ukrainian, but what about the rest of it
And how exactly is it NOT an invasion?
While Russia may have theoretically invaded Ukraine, an invasion is regarded as:
An invasion is a military offensive in which large parts of the armed forces of one geopolitical entity aggressively enter territory controlled by another such entity, generally with the objective of either conquering, liberating or re-establishing control or authority over a territory
Note that Russia has (so far) not attempted to take over any territory. If anything, this could be considered border violations - which can be just as bad, mind you.
Misleading title. Other than that, shit could get serious really fast.
An invasion doesn't always have to start with gunfire and bombing raids.
Mil 24s
Ukrainian Mi-24s flying in Ukrainian territory is Ukraine trying to invade Ukraine. Oh noes.
Who said they were Ukrainian?
Who said they weren't? Currently Russian 810th marine brigade which is the most active in Sevastopol has 0 of these
I wonder how the west is going to react. I also wonder how the Ukraine people, EU supports and Russian supports react.
Who said they were Ukrainian?
They are not. 7 Russian Mi-24s crossed the border this morning, with permission from the Ukrainian government

I like how speculations based on almost nothing transform into statements like the one in the title.
I like how speculations based on almost nothing transform into statements like the one in the title.
It's like a worldwide game of broken telephone, basically
I like how speculations based on almost nothing transform into statements like the one in the title.
The Interior minister outright stated it was an invasion.

"Call the Associated Press immediately, this will make one hell of a scoop"
Ukraine considers it an invasion.

"I consider what has happened to be an armed invasion and occupation in violation of all international agreements and norms," Mr Avakov said on his Facebook page.
Comments section Vladimir Putin: "Fuk off m8 stop chattin shit"
BREAKING NEWS Ukraine's interim President, Olexander Turchynov, has dismissed the head of the armed forces, Admiral Yuriy Ilyin.
Could that imply some kind of refusal by the armed forces?
They are not. 7 Russian Mi-24s crossed the border this morning, with permission from the Ukrainian government
What is exactly the Ukrainian government then? Because some claim invasion and others give permission to cross the border.
Either way russia is up to no good over there.
Russia *allegedly* invades Ukraine. Because so far nothing has proven that people who have secured the airport are Russian soldiers. BTRs also bear no markings, so do the Kamaz trucks, Ukrainian forces including former Berkut units all have these. I'm having a hard time believeing anything their new government tells me, because I remember how during the uprising these guys saw Russian spec-ops all over the place and non of it was ever supported with any evidence but a couple of half-burned markings you can buy in your local military store.
The Interior minister outright stated it was an invasion.
So maybe this minister will share some information he obviously has with us instead of making loud statements?
I hate to be stereotypical, but until you end up seeing markings, their equipment at a distance is going to be hard to differentiate between Ukrainian or Russian, since it's all Soviet :v:
