Reminds me of how they treated Syria with a lot of ships around their shores and whatnot.
And in the last moment it was a "nope, well we're actually not sure who used chemical weapons, bye guys"
Not that I'm favoring fucking shit up even more in Syria.
There are a fair bit of Eastern European FPers who have legitimate reasons to be worried. FP aint just north america
That was a tad ignorant on my part, I apologize.
Said it because mostly I saw the american FPers panicking ).
From what I know there aren't any FPers in Crimea.
Ukraine won't dare go to war with Russia. If anything happens it'll just be in Crimea.
Regardless of them living in crimea It's a pretty legitimate fear that it could escalate.
Regardless of them living in crimea It's a pretty legitimate fear that it could escalate.
Fair enough
Didn't expect it to escalate to this level, hope nothing severe breaks out, but it's possible from what's happening now..
Probably was answered before, but to lazy. Why do the russians not have any mags in their AKs?

They're peace keepers.

First of all, even if conflict escalates, North America is safe, so none of you are going to die. No nukes will be dropped, VOSK is right.
Second, Ukrainian armed forces are not going to resist. They're demoralized and fucked, they know it. Opening fire on Russian troops will just get them killed (in fact, that's most likely what Rus troops are waiting for - to fire once fired upon and storm Ukrainian positions).
Thirdly, the high command of Ukraine doesn't have any control over the situation, so army is pretty much on their own. They either surrender, or...well...
All US and EU can do is pull in sanctions. They won't risk military actions, since it will be too big of a fish for them to fight if situation spills outside of a small skirmish.
What Russia is doing is not justified and is against all laws and regulations, but they will keep doing what they are doing and they will get away with it.
Also info about 36th Brigade getting stormed hasn't been confirmed yet.

Panic kills. No matter what country you're in. So, don't panic and follow the situation with a clear head.
If anyone wants to avoid a direct confrontation, it'd actually be Russia wanting to avoid conflict with NATO. The combined defence spending of NATO in 2013 was $1.02 trillion, versus Russia's spending of $90 billion, and NATO forces heavily outnumber them, and arguably have an edge in terms of equipment and technology. Russia may want to influence Crimea, but it doesn't want an armed conflict because if NATO decides to back Ukraine (which isn't a definite, as it isn't a NATO member) they'd be fucked.
You can't deny they're walking a tightrope right now though. Putin definitely has some balls.

Indeed, you are right. And that is exactly why Russian troops didn't start shooting everything they see and aggressively taking over.
The truth is though, neither side wants to go to war, even though NATO is more advanced and outnumbers Russian forces. Overall damage would be beyond anything we've see in World War II, "thanks" to modern science.

Couldn't say it better myself.
This reminds me of when Russia invaded Georgia and a bunch of people thought America would intervene and WWIII would start.

What do you think will happen to Crimea after all this, will they split from Ukraine and become a part of Russia again? Or will the Russians keep their position and leave the region again after everything cooled down?
Its just going to be the worlds most expensive staring contest.
wasnt that the cold war

I'm guessing a satellite state just like Abkhazia and Transdniestr

My guess is autonomous state. I mean, Russia can't just take and annex part of Ukraine and mark it red on the map, but it can put a puppet guy in the administration and tell him what to do.
Also Russians won't leave the region, they've got a major navy base in the neighborhood.
Maybe they're PMC's? Rumours in the news suggesting they might be private soldiers of the interior ministry RF.

From my perspective, it doesn't look like an annex yet. They haven't declared their intentions yet.
Maybe it is going to be an annex, but what if they just stay with the people of Crimea saying, well the situation in Ukraine is bad, but were are here to "assist" you guys as peacekeepers and help this region until everything has cooled down in Ukraine
and leave again? Just showing good intentions.
I mean the People of Crimea were always pro russian, after such an action from the russian side, they will beg to be finally part of them again.
It would be a great move by the russians without any bloodshed and more provocation.

I think that's what Russia is aiming for. Not only will it guarantee their naval base, but it gives them a nice buffer zone between the EU and a western looking Ukraine and their borders, whilst requiring minimal amount of administration and spending on their behalf.
Ukrainian Army should drive down and take control of the road blocks, and ask the Russians to go back to their bases. If they don't cooperate they should push their vehicles out of the way with tanks.
Do everything to contain the Russians in Sevastopol base without shooting. If the Russians use a little military force that's fuel for panicfest at the UN/NATO.

Also a nice opportunity to bring in a few rockets "purely for protection" in the future, US style )).
Russia won't annex Crimea unless there is a formal agreement with de facto government (which is protesters at the moment, and you ask me - they don't have a slightest idea wtf to do from this point). De facto government considers everything Russian troops do as hostile actions (and they're not wrong), so, only option for now is an autonomous state.

Such action may (and probably will) be considered an act of aggression from Ukrainian side and boom - rounds flying. They won't risk it.

What gave me a good laugh was Yanukovich sitting somewhere in Russia and saying that he is the president of Ukraine still and that current government should not be considered legal. Heh.
В каком сумасшедшем мире мы живём, друзья.

Are you seriously suggesting the Ukrainian military should willingly get slaughtered? Because that's what would happen if they tried to fight the Russians.

She's actually the great prophet of this millennium. She has to hide her great powers under a veil of insanity or else the evil forces of this world will know... and use her gifts to their strength.
If Ukraine ask the states for help. Obama should say "Give us 10 turns to prepare."
