Honestly I think the only one that can stop this is Putin. We really don't have any kind of leverage against Russia. They supply Europe's gas. [editline]1st March 2014[/editline] A little too late to finally being put on alert, doesn't it take 48-72 hours to fully mobilize divisions?
Putin's not gonna stop this. He wants this.
Maybe Ukraine hoping that by starting some sort of altercation with Russia, and then Russia defends itself in hopes that draws Europe in? Not sure what the Ukraine military can do at this point, other than prevent Russia from getting deeper into Ukraine?
Putin's not gonna stop this. He wants this.
maybe Putin has some pet peeve and just wants Russia to look pretty on a map after Ukraine, Kazakhstan
Now look at us little Baltic states, next to a certain big bully Russia. If all you need is political instability to have a valid casus belli then I'm scared about what might start happening here. I mean yeah, I'm paranoid to all hell but yeah, it's possible aint it.
Not only that, but Russians also have their little exclave in the Baltics which is basically just a huge navy military base.
Oh, it's VERY possible. I'm practically expecting Russia to start making mass land grabs.
That would mean a war with NATO or at least half of Europe realizing that NATO isn't worth shit.

Saw that Latvia and Lithuiana has invoked article IV of NATO charter, which requires emergency meetings/consultations. Totally understand their perspective doh.
I legitimately fear that Putin has gone nuts. Because no one can see what he wants. Crimea? Fuck Crimea, it's not going to be new Russian region, that's just not happening. Independent Crimea will fucking die. And no value to be gained there at the cost of what is happening now. Eastern Ukraine - even less likely. All that is happening seems to indicate that Putin just wants Ukraine gone for good, and right now it's more likely than it ever was. Sacrificing what's left of our credibility and respect for absolutely nothing. With no plans at all, just pure opportunity - look at what Russian forces are doing - fucking nothing. They get out of their Tigers and Kamaz trucks and are standing there, blocking the road for apparently no one. They don't seem like they have any detailed orders. It's insanity.
19.43 More detail from Kiev. After a more than three-hour meeting with security and defence chiefs, acting President Oleksander Turchinov said there was no justification for what he called Russian aggression against his country. Standing beside Mr Turchinov, Prime Minister Arseny Yatsenyuk said he had urged Russia to return its troops to base in the Crimea region during a phone call with Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and called for talks. "Military intervention would be the beginning of war and the end of any relations between Ukraine and Russia," Yatsenyuk told reporters.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/ukraine/10669670/Ukraine-live-Crimea-leader-appeals-to-Putin-to-help-as-Obama-warns-of-costs-to-Moscow.html
I just like how casually Russia seems to have slipped in

Also remember that Russia still has a large enough nuclear stockpile to destroy the world multiple times over. If that nation loses its mind, we all lose.
Please please don't escalate
We keep saying this and yet every hour it seems something else happens. At this point all we can hope is the Western allies can reach Putin and end this diplomatically and without further bloodshed.
Also remember that Russia still has a large enough nuclear stockpile to destroy the world multiple times over. If that nation loses its mind, we all lose.
They aren't dumb enough to use it.
I fear that their capabilities have made them bold. They're sure no one will stop them.
19.48 David Cameron warns that there was "no excuse" for armed intervention in Ukraine. QuoteThere can be no excuse for outside military intervention in Ukraine - a point I made to President (Vladimir) Putin when we spoke yesterday. Everyone must think carefully about their actions and work to lower, not escalate, tensions. The world is watching.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/ukraine/10669670/Ukraine-live-Crimea-leader-appeals-to-Putin-to-help-as-Obama-warns-of-costs-to-Moscow.html
Currently fearing Russia provoking Baltics. I really have been having an anxiety of going to war, just hearing a siren go off and head to my battalion to mobilize.

I know it would lead escalate things straight away but usually a countries first reaction to having another country invade would to send troops there.
