The government recognizes many Christian holidays as statutory holidays. That's making a Christian day and enforcing it. (For government employees, anyway)
Actually they include discretionary holidays for use. The government doesn't shut down for Christmas, and the days off are rationalized as general holidays with secular reasoning. It doesn't actively encourage participation in festivities, rather it simply offers paid vacation days during the busiest holiday times.
Actually they include discretionary holidays for use.
So it isn't mandatory for government offices/etc to shut down for Christmas, they just do?
Not all government positions get holidays off. Cops don't. The FBI doesn't. Pretty much the only agencies that get the holidays off are minor and regulatory ones. All enforcement agencies will still have regular work schedules. It's mandatory to provide a set number of paid vacation days, but whether or not a member of an enforcement agency gets to use them on Christmas depends entirely on when they put in the request.
Being a Californian, I'd like to say fuck this.
What is "connectedness"?
Well that's fucking stupid...
Hmm, I know you meant to type the word Australia, but it looks alot like California. That's a bit big of a typo, dunchathink?
Words are words I never understood why some people seem to be against swearing
How much longer until somebody bans the act of banning things.
Pssst...hey, if everyone follows through with it, maybe [sp]you potheads will get a gift: marijuana legalized.[/sp] Bet that changed your perspective, now didn't it :buddy:.
Pssst...hey, if everyone follows through with it, maybe [sp]you potheads will get a gift: marijuana legalized.[/sp] Bet that changed your perspective, now didn't it :buddy:.
Stereotypical retard makes fun of stereotypical Californians.
why would they wanna do this it probably gonna encourage more people to swear
Pssst...hey, if everyone follows through with it, maybe [sp]you potheads will get a gift: marijuana legalized.[/sp] Bet that changed your perspective, now didn't it :buddy:.
I hope you're joking
So the senate is going to spend time, money, and effort to propose this, vote on it, and if passed, will do exactly nothing. Good job there. Fucking politicians. [editline]09:45PM[/editline] Not the mention the whole freedom of speech thing. [editline]09:45PM[/editline] But it will not do shit, so nevermind.
This is just to shut up that kid who thinks that swearing makes god kill kittens or something dumb like that. And no swearing for a weak? Fuck that.
Australia bans breathing.
Pssst...hey, if everyone follows through with it, maybe [sp]you potheads will get a gift: marijuana legalized.[/sp] Bet that changed your perspective, now didn't it :buddy:.
Medical marijuana is legalized and readily found grown and sold in the state.
This is fucking bullshit.
I live in California, but I'll be saying fuck and shit all I'll want :smug:
The initiative is simply meant to promote greater harmony and connectedness
What have you legalized now to come up with this?
Medical marijuana is legalized and readily found grown and sold in the state.
"Medical".
I laughed so hard I almost passed out. It really wasn't that hard though, I have one hell of a cold.
I thought it was most enjoyable if I must say.
I should be able to say fuck whenever the fuck I want to.
As a Californian, I have two words: Fuck that.
Wow, this is taking stupid to a whole new level. I wonder if that no cussing club had anything to do with this.
I thought you had "Freedom of Speech", doesn't this like violate your constitution or something?
Wait, does this mean you could still wear shirts with vulgar language on them? That's not necessarily "cussing", right? :smug:
You know, I was reading a very interesting book on this subject - basically, it had to do with the discrepancy between religion and swear words. If this is religiously motivated (it probably is, since I'm sure the "No Cussing Club" kid is a hardcore Christian) then it's worth noting that God made us apparently in our image. But if pooping and having sex is so offensive (eg words like "shit" and "fuck") then either we're not made in God's image (so he doesn't shit or fuck) or our natural functions are part of God's perfect aesthetic in which case we shouldn't lock the door when we go to the bathroom nor should we baulk at the idea of having sex and make it into a taboo. Of course, if you're not religious then this argument's completely irrelevant as you'll be recognising swear words as mere linguistic artifacts which aren't intrinsically offensive.
Hah, this will never work.
