UK's Home Office wants to ban glass drinking receptacles in bars
And the UK descends further into a combination nanny/police state. Tomorrow: CCTV cameras placed into public toilets with built-in microphones to yell at people who don't wipe their asses after taking a shit.
Don't be so stupid, just because the Home Office wants to do something doesn't mean that it'll get very far as to actually getting passed, most MPs enjoy drinking so it's not likely that this is going to get passed.
I support this.
ban glasses and people will use knives, brilliant idea
A proposal is not a finalised and passed law, why does nobody understand this.

don't worry, we'll just make it illegal for anyone to use non-anti-stab knives
Most nightclubs already use plastic glasses, as do many inner-city pubs.
They do this for a reason:
1) Plastic glasses don't break when you drop them
2) People in Britian (mainly chavs and gangstas) do hit each other in the face with normal glasses and bottles.
But it shouldn't be compulsory for places that have no reported incidents (although maybe a rule for places open to a certain time in set areas).
You can also just kick them away when done :v:
ut yeah I think this measure for all pubs is too extreme. Know trouble spots would probably help, or just keep it to clubs.
It's actually a pretty logical way of thinking. What would it matter if they used plastic glasses instead?

Read above.

That's all part of the pub experience though, can't have a fun night out until someone tries to glass you, even better if they're so pissed they miss entirely.
Besides, booze from a plastic cup just isn't the same.
The Home Office can just fuck off.
How about putting the people who use the pint glass as a weapon in prison for longer than a week.
Instead of banning glasses, why not stop the late night frigging drinking deals and stuff all these clubs have that's causing most of Britains drinking problems.
I should imagine less drunk people would mean less glass to people's faces.
I live in America, but I have to ask, on a global scale, are we really giving up our freedom just for a false sense of safety? I know that's alot to this banning, but still, think about it.
Cars are dangerous. Let's ban them.
Electricity is dangerous. Let's ban it.
Medicine is dangerous. Let's ban it.
Eating (the wrong things) is dangerous. Let's ban it.
I'm tired of the government treating us like idiots.
great idea change something that can be recycled to something that cant be recycled
I'm in favour of this.
Having wooden and metal tankards would be amazing.

They use plastic cups in clubs already, which is a good thing as I've been in clubs that give glasses and by the end of the night the dance floor was just a sea of broken glass.
However in pubs it's just silly. The whole 'Britain is turning into Stalinist Russia' stance that the tabloids take doesn't fly with me but banning pint glasses is going too far.

I would support this ban if it meant this.
But every pub is just going to use nasty cheap plastic cups that make it really easy to spill your beer, as well as making it taste god awful.
Dear government. Please kindly fuck off.
Sincerely, a citizen who's all big and gwown up and doesn't need another mummy to keep him safe.
Ha, Britain is now as big a pussy as France with all their "I'm scared of everything let's ban it so it won't hurt anyone" laws.
maybe we should have pint glasses made from rubber

^ This :cop: :bang:
I head that people are using their limbs as weapons to inflict blunt trauma on other people!
QUICKLY, ISSUE MANDATORY AMPUTATIONS. THE UK MUST BE KEPT SAFE, FOR THE PEOPLE'S GOOD.
How about they ban Free Will?
The plastic cups better be strong. Fucking annoying when you get knocked and end up crushing them, and your incredibly expensive pint :(
A few places around here use plastic glasses, especially the clubs. Glassing is actually a fairly common occurance here.
Plastic isn't strong, and gets your beer warmer quicker.
Glass is stronger when you hold it, and beer is cooler.
Plastic will not make your beer warmer, both glass and plastic are insulators so heat is not transferred into the beer quickly in either case.
I am personally for this but only after 11pm, most cases of people getting glassed happen later than this in a night anyway and it means pubs can still use pint glasses (as most stop serving at 11pm) but clubs will have to use plastic.
The thing that it will ruin is the head of the beer, the current glass head-saver glasses are awesome at keeping a bit of a head on your pint as you drink it. It would be hard to mimic this with plastic, which as a result would harm the beer drinking experience.
The plastic pint glasses currently used in many clubs/pubs in the UK are not weak enough to crush, they are rigid and nearly unbreakable, they make the glass ones look like a pussy. I would also be happy with old school tankards as they are naturally good at this and also very strong.

remember, all insulators are equally efficient( or to be more accurate, inefficient)
Real men drink from good olde fashion beer mugs.
One day plastic glasses, the next day 1984.
Another case where Fox News demonstrates that it is the number one news station. Glenn Beck tells only the truth, yet those smelly English people still take it up the ass from their nanny state.
Well I may have not seen England, and I may not know anything about England, and I may be as educated as a four year old, and have the brain capacity of a four year old, but that doesn't mean that I can't make intelligent psots!
