Don't we have any lawyers on facepunch?
No...
lol garry is going to prison
lol garry is going to prison
People wouldn't be stupid enough to sentence Garry to a prison term. They would spontaneously combust.
lol garry is going to prison
You don't know how civil cases work do you
Don't we have any lawyers on facepunch?
We had Lankist.
We had Lankist.
Lankist... *sobs* :smith:
We had Lankist.
Who?
I don't know how the US courts system works, but if it's like the UK one; you can go in to a special area and see the court case happen, even if you're not involved in the case. Not all cases, but most. Don't see why it wouldn't be permitted for this kind of case. So anyone in the area could technically go and watch the case... :v:
what the fuck? sauce, http://www.lvbusinesspress.com/articles/2010/10/25/news/iq_39074288.txt
It might do you some good to see this: http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2010/11/eff-copyright-troll/ I thought something was fishy about this.

It's part of the constitution, anyone can watch any court case unless it's a closed courtroom. The only way you can have a closed courtroom, is if council asks the judge.
I was going to PM a mod.
OMG HE STOLE MAI THREAD ANGRY SAD FAEC >:C /caps Also, this lawsuit is retarded and will turn into a lolsuit rapidly. Why? because you cant sue someone for posting a link or snippet of your news article. That's like sueing someone for reading the newspaper.
Oh god. We are an alleged website.
Your avatar suits the post you made.
This won't go anywhere.
Fucking bullshit. I hope Garry doesn't just give in and pay them.
I'm sure he has the money to, though. Garry's rich.
I'm sure he has the money to, though. Garry's rich.
Haha, even if that was correct what's that got to do with anything?
So apparently I'm being sued by 'righthaven' for copyright infringement. I haven't had any legal papers yet, I just read it on a news site.
That's quite interesting. You're the one being sued for copyright infringement and the first you hear of it is in the news.
Copyright is abused and needs reform.
I doubt this will go anywhere.
But i also fear as a result ITN will have much stricter rules on posting. [editline]4th November 2010[/editline]
We had Lankist.
Sorry, don't remember him.
But i also fear as a result ITN will have much stricter rules on posting.
Quoting an article for the purpose of news reporting IS fair use. I am not sure if everyone would, but I would class posting a news article in this forum a form of news reporting.
Don't quote the whole article. Quote the first few sentences.
Don't quote the whole article. Quote the first few sentences.
Don't quote anything, summarize.
Don't quote the whole article. Quote the first few sentences.
Quoting isn't illegal... it's actually preferred.
Don't quote anything, summarize.
Quoting and citing a source is perfectly legal, and I wish this company could get slapped with fines for such an obvious abuse of the legal system.
Don't quote anything, summarize.
Quoting doesn't mean you're stealing their content, you're referencing it.
The only way I could see this company having a valid point is if people were taking their articles and passing them off as their own, which doesn't happen here.
Some woman's 12 year old daughter ran out into the road and was caught a glancing blow by my car which was thankfully travelling very slowly. The girl hurt her ankle, the mother said at the time in front of witnesses that it wasn't my fault. Later she (the mother) got injurylawyers4u or similar and tried to sue. I was outraged. My insurance company settled even though it wasn't my fault, because it was cheaper than going to court. I was so angry! Nothing I could do, so I changed insurance companies straight afterwards as it was the only way I could protest. It probably is best to pay the $2 though, my father went to court over a parking fine he thought was unfair and got fined 4 times as much as he would otherwise have paid.
After reading around, it seems most of the settlements they've reached are a few thousand dollars, tops.
I still don't get whats happening
