Easy way of getting money. Just sue some one using your articles or other content like photos when you need some extra cash.

It costs money to sue people, and makes you look like a douche. ED are using a picture of me which is technically my copyright, I'm not about to sue them.
Wait, when they said they wanted the domain names, did they want to take control over facepunch or do they just want the link to facepunch?

Boxforts incoming, if I'm wrong
They should try to sue 4chan.

Bunch of butthurt people that enjoy memes who got banned by her wrote it.
But that can be said (except the last part) for pretty much the whole website.
Ahahaha, copyrighting news. Fucking idiots.
I expect there is going to be a shitload of traffic because of this.
That's quite interesting. You're the one being sued for copyright infringement and the first you hear of it is in the news.
So they first should have also requested it was removed before hand.
Case dismissed.

Indeed. Let's point out something big here.

Facepunch Studios hasn't received any benefit from this or any money, therefore it's for personal use technically and to inform others about the media and press releases or whatever articles made by them. Also, they have to request for us to delete the link - which I don't believe they have considering they're filing a law suit.

No they don't. RightHaven is infamous for targeting websites that do not have a registered DMCA agent meaning instead of sending a take down notice to avoid the lawsuit, they can sue you directly. Unfortunately, since the server move to the United States was recent, Garry did not register for a DMCA agent (http://www.copyright.gov/onlinesp/).

I'm no law major but, a question.
"If you operate a Web site and wish to link to Stephens Media LLC., you may do so provided you agree to delete the link upon request from us.
It clearly says a website, nothing about the DMCA or of it. Aren't they in reality violating their own agreement then?

Smells like a bunch of bullshit to me to be honest.
Makes as much sense as suing a homeowner for cutting yourself while breaking into it.

It depends on their definition of commercial and personal use then. Considering only 1 out of 167 lawsuits being successfully dismissed, I'd assume not.
so what the fuck happened

But how many have been settled? Not being dismissed doesn't necessarily mean that the case can't be beaten, just that it's easier to settle. This is litigious bullying.

The rest were all settled for an average of 3.5K. None actually appeared in a trial since they were all settled.
I rest my case.
I was thinking about this: What is the point of the In The News subforum? To share and discuss current events in the news.
Given that, § 107, Title 17 U.S.C. states that:
Notwithstanding the provisions of sections 106 and 106A, the fair use of a copyrighted work, including such use by reproduction in copies or phonorecords or by any other means specified by that section, for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research, is not an infringement of copyright. In determining whether the use made of a work in any particular case is a fair use the factors to be considered shall include....
Wouldn't that mean this were to fall under fair use anyway?
well this is kind of disgusting

I'm quite sure it would.
Here's a thought: Why doesn't someone design a nice full-page attack ad about how the Las Vegas Review-Journal are abusing the American legal system and plaguing the already backlogged legal system with baseless lawsuits targeting innocent website owners and have the ad placed in all newspapers in the Las Vegas area? How about some large banner ads on the Las Vegas Sun's homepage? See how much their (probably already low) subscriptions drop.
These people are so full of shit it's hilarious. I bet this corporation's biggest source of income is from lawsuits.
