You know when you buy seedless oranges? Plants made to be infertile is what is scary...
Wow, thank God Congress took care of that pesky right to blame the manufacturer if their food fucking kills you.
You know when you buy seedless oranges? Plants made to be infertile is what is scary...
I've had apples that haven't had a core. Like you could eat the entire apply minus the stem.
You know when you buy seedless oranges? Plants made to be infertile is what is scary...
It seems like there's some misinformation on this whole infertile seed thing. If the seed was fertile it would spread into the wild and possibly destroy entire ecosystems. Many of these plants (the Bt) varieties are created to be bug resistant... can you imagine if a bug resistant plant spread?
BAN LOBBYING
You guys should watch "Food Inc" shows about the fast food industry, GMO's, factorized animal farms etc.
Read the book instead. It's a whole lot less sensationalist and more about facts.
You know when you buy seedless oranges? Plants made to be infertile is what is scary...
You can still reproduce seedless fruit like that through grafting. That's what they already have to do to get plants like the kind of apples we're used to. Also, seedless oranges were cultivated using natural means. They're not a GMO, just selective cross-breeding with naturally seedless plants. Navel oranges, for example, all are descended from the same tree, which didn't have seeds.
I just love it when people who diss conspiracy theorists get their buttholes all tightened when this shit comes out from someone 'reliable'.
My definition of conspiracy theorist is pretty much "people that believe the world to be run by reptiles". I don't think anyone ever doubted that this kind of shit happens, even though I find it insane that no one is doing anything about the US' lobbying problem.
just lol @ people who only buy ~organic~ foods if you don't know what genetic modification is, just don't even talk [editline]30th March 2013[/editline]
You know when you buy seedless oranges? Teddy Roosevelt's about to punch his way out of his grave.
Genetic modification, on its own, is neither good or bad. It can be one, the other, or both. Monsanto goes full fucking retard with it, creating terminator seeds, plants that require certain types of fertilizer to survive, and plants that are so toxic to bugs they are killing the bees. Monsanto gives no fucks about any of it. It's a shame because GM has been used to make plants that will survive harsher climates, produce food more efficiently, produce better tasting and healthier food, etc. It is a powerful tool that is unfortunately being blamed for things it is not responsible for. Keep the blame to Monsanto and similar companies (who very much deserve it).
Monsanto should be fucking shut down, and the people behind these injustices arrested.
They patent seeds, then flood the market with them and after a while. They sell seeds that only work with their pesticides and they also make it so you have to buy a new batch every time you grow, or else they'll sue you to oblivion. [editline]27th March 2013[/editline] They literally patent entire crops and if you don't pay them when you grow them, you can be sent to court.
How can you patent....life? I mean those crops have been around longer than modern humans have ever existed. You can't patent something just by calling ''dibs!''
They have great potential, improved harvests, improved food quality. Without GM crops feeding the world is a pipedream. The problem is these corporations with no regard for people's health and massive political influence.
Never mind that half of the food the world produces is just thrown away while it's still good.
How many kinds of seeds aren't Monsanto-owned?
Most of the vegetables I eat I grow, and are in a community garden that I pay monthly to grow in. I order my seeds online that are verified organic.
thats cool but you do realize that large yield crops basically require GMO and pesticide right? otherwise disease and pests cause you to lose most of your yield.
Monsanto has made just about everything. You can't get away from them. Conspiracy theories don't do justice to how large and how much impact monsanto will and does have on our lives and our world.
abstergo
Fuck Monsanto. They drive farmers into debt and have a goddamn monopoly on a lot of fucking crops. You literally cannot grow Soy in any form without giving them money. Even if you grow it off of second generation seeds, it's fucking illegal.
Sounds like a problem with government overreach combined with Monsanto's douchiness.
