thanks for misinterpreting my point again, that never gets old
I'm just trying show you how your characterization of the IRS as unbeatable is wrong, based on the fact that Enron's fraud went on for several years before being noticed. Apparently it is possible to get away with it.
Uhh it went on for several years because there's such a thing as due process.
See, first they need to commit the crime.
Then the cops have to find evidence that they did.
Then the lawyers need to mount a case.
Are you retarded or something? Do you not understand how basic criminal punishment works? Would you recommend we just break down doors and raid offices with no warrants and no justification just to make sure everything's peachy?
My stepfather happened to be a marine. One of the more frequent ways that a female officer would gain a promotion was bending over and getting fucked by a superior officer.
Trust me, disgusting corruption is in every aspect of modern society.
you know, I was wondering what this thread was missing. Sexist anecdotes being used like valid arguments! Thanks man
Hey, bro, I don't know if you heard but I told you to shut your mouth for five minutes and form an argument with your counterpart in this thread, not continue with this bullshit child's play of an argument.
Go think up something to say that isn't wildly paranoid and stupid.
Uhh it went on for several years because there's such a thing as due process.
The SEC investigation didn't start until after Enron's stocks became worthless.

something that you don't think is paranoid and stupid? Ok.
THE GOVERNMENT'S OUT TO GET YOU, THE GOVERNMENTS OUT TO GET YOU! THEY WANT ALL OF YOUR MONEY
THE GOVERNMENT'S OUT TO GET YOU, THE GOVERNMENTS OUT TO GET YOU! THEY WANT ALL OF YOUR MONEY

damn, why hadn't I thought of that? Instead of engaging in debate with your opponent, just dismiss their ideas with a wave of your hand. It's brilliant.
True.
My basic point here is that I'm willing to take the chance of government incompetence or corruption over the certainty of corporate exploitation. Corporations have a duty to their shareholders to wring the public for every dime the market can give, which is fine and that's how capitalism works, but I'm opposed to them being able to do that with essential commodities like oil and healthcare. Utility rates (power, water, etc) are heavily regulated by the government, often to the point of being essentially socialized non-profits.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_Utility_District
Nobody seems to have a problem with getting their electricity from a publicly owned or heavily regulated supplier. For the most part we pay affordable rates for these services thanks to this regulation. Oil is essential to most people's lives in this country, we can't get to work or go to the store or take our kids to school without it. So, why the hell do we let them mercilessly gouge us instead of treating them like utility companies?
I'm trying to teach you how to formulate an argument that can counter mine and you will not abide.
I have left holes in my argument that you could be addressing but you aren't.
For instance, in my outline of criminal procedure I intentionally left out a fatal flaw in that it can take years to discover a crime has been committed but you did not directly acknowledge that flaw, probably because you didn't read it.
For the love of Monkey Christ go talk shit through with Used Car Salesman, formulate an argument and then come back. I am trying to help you beat me.
.
That was in response to you calling me paranoid again, not a response to an actual argument that you made
Must... KILL... Alec baldwin!
Also you should be stressing the independence that the citizenry has on these companies, and that their potential crimes can violate the rights of individuals. Should you ask me whose rights are more important, companies or individuals, you would have cornered me.
But are you saying that? Nnoooooooo.
Maybe I should make an alt account and debate with myself.

I laughed. God, I never really realized JUST how much I missed you until now.
I think Sigma and Lankist secretly want to have sex but that's just me.
Hahahaha, god dude, are you itching for a ten-page fight so bad you're telling people how to argue with you?
Hahahaha, god dude, are you itching for a ten-page fight so bad you're telling people how to argue with you?
I am trying to educate you motherfuckers because one day I won't be around to point out how stupid you all are for you. One day you'll have to call yourselves stupid.
Yes in this analogy I am your daddy.

If FP had a debate club, Lankist would undoubtedly be the supreme overlord for life. Let him.
pretend to have the higher ground by mocking your opponent for failing to make specific arguments which are, quite frankly, implied by the nature of the larger argument? wow you're getting pretty avant-garde with your debate tactics man
I am trying to lose and I am still winning.
Jesus Christ I am not this good. You are that bad.
Here's what you do: You stress the importance of the individual over the conglomerate, that the financial liberties of the individual are not to be risked in order to allow needless conglomerates an unnecessary facade of independence.

You are being stupid just to spite me.
no, i can't fukking cope man, you're owning me that hard
please, have mercy, let me slink away in defeat
Where did this go from Alec Baldwin to talking about Sigma-Lambda's paranoia?
What an anti-climactic end to an argument.
Rather entertaining shitstorm, that.
Uhh so basically you're saying fuck collecting evidence and due process we should just throw that out and punish people before crimes happen.
Newsflash: You have to be able to prove a crime happened before you can punish someone for it. That is a GOOD thing.
i missed you and your awesome posts
Adam Baldwin is way cooler anyway. :smug:
Yes, the government should encourage new forms of energy.
No, it is not the government's job to eliminate an entire market.
Alec Baldwin is about as biased and stupid as Michael Moore. Why should anyone listen to him?
because he's the greatest actor ever
because he's the greatest actor ever
Matt Damon.
Alec Baldwin was the worst Mr. Conductor.
