• Suicide Squad's Cara Delevingne: 'Superhero Movies Are Totally Sexist'

If you're sexually attracted to your wife, do you view them as an object? IF we agree that sexualization is instantly dehumanizing and objectifying to women(because as we've seen in this thread, men can't be sexualized in a negative way, it's just a "Power fantasy") then how do we really deal with anything? We obviously have to go back to being a puritanical society. Or, perhaps, sexualization is natural and not a problem when accompanied by reasonable thought.
look man i just want more hot guys in chapstick ads is that too much to ask
me too, we should start a change.org petition
Anyone remember Starfire's new 52 comic or Harley Quinn DC has since stepped back from this nonsense but jesus fucking christ was it stupid
I'm not going to defend any of that, but I also don't see how this is horrible character destructive crap when realistically, look at those character backgrounds and publication histories and "sexualization" is the least of the issues that we need to worry about.
Man I'm more concerned about terrible writing than dehumanization in that extract.
KAK!
Man I'm more concerned about terrible writing than dehumanization in that extract.
to be fair starfire is literally an alien like that's no excuse for postal dude but still
or Harley Quinn DC has since stepped back from this nonsense but jesus fucking christ was it stupid
I don't think there is anything particularly wrong with the Harley Quinn photo. Could someone explain what the problem is?
those novels are pretty much straight pornographic. they're erotica. they're not equivalent whatsoever to comic books or videogames or movies which are not designed specifically to arouse you sexually, but simply entertain you.
Then that's even worse, isn't it? Comic book heroes are extremely similar to men you'd see in pornography targeted towards women. If we follow the same line of logic as with women superheroes that means they're considered as sex objects. How come nobody ever complains about this?
I don't think there is anything particularly wrong with the Harley Quinn photo. Could someone explain what the problem is?
That outfit is one twitch away from a wardrobe malfunction.
I don't think there is anything particularly wrong with the Harley Quinn photo. Could someone explain what the problem is?
She's sexy and that word sounds a lot like 'sexist', so this picture must be.
or Harley Quinn DC has since stepped back from this nonsense but jesus fucking christ was it stupid
To be fair if this was done in the same style but she wasn't just in underwear it'd be pretty awesome.
That outfit is one twitch away from a wardrobe malfunction.
and spiderman's costume is glued to his ass like it's painted on super hero costumes have never been realistic or practical like I'm not a fan of that design either but that's cause it's generic as fuck
To be fair if this was done in the same style but she wasn't just in underwear it'd be pretty awesome.
You mean if she was naked?
That outfit is one twitch away from a wardrobe malfunction.
The corset you mean? Aren't those usually like skin tight, or worse rib breaking tight? [editline]28th June 2015[/editline]
You mean if she was naked?
I think Janus means with pants or something longer then the short-shorts
You mean if she was naked?
If she had more a a clown/harlequin get up. Though I wouldn't mind if she was naked. The loose, half open corset just looks silly.
The corset you mean? Aren't those usually like skin tight, or worse rib breaking tight?
Not if the corset is made right. But that's not a corset.
Not if the corset is made right. But that's not a corset.
No it's a brazzier and so is even less likely to fall off
Not if the corset is made right. But that's not a corset.
I'm sorry, I forgot comics about disguised vigilantes fighting super villains had to feature realistic clothing.
When Harley Quinn first appeared in the Batman Animated Series she was wearing nothing but a skintight suit and her hips were almost wider than her shoulders. Then her outfits got more complex and she started showing skin, but her costume never left much room for imagination because her very first depiction was literally bum-naked-with-paint-for-skin. And I know enough people who have a raging fetish for skin-tight latex to know that a character doesn't have to show skin to be sexualized.
I forgot crazy people had to dress sensibly!
Thanks to everyone informing me that comic books are fiction. I wasn't aware of that.
I totally agree that the starfire reboot was absolute trash though, but that's more due to the writing being shit than anything else. Femthor also suffers from terrible writing and she's technically on the polar opposite of what DC did with Starfire.

Like I said earlier, I'll accept women are more sexualized in media, but I won't admit that in fiction it's an issue. When we're talking non fiction, like air brushed Barbie-esque women, but that's a whole different story.

That's absolutely something worth addressing. It just doesn't have anything to do with Harley Quinn wearing hot pants.
Thanks to everyone informing me that comic books are fiction. I wasn't aware of that.
I think it's funny that you're insisting a psycopathic murderous idol worshipping highly intelligent and dangerous criminal has to dress sensibly. I mean, really?
I think it's funny that you're insisting a psycopathic murderous idol worshipping highly intelligent and dangerous criminal has to dress sensibly. I mean, really?
I'm asking for a little bit of logic. Like I'm okay with her original outfit and it's not like most people run around dressed in skintight latex/spandex
I'm asking for a little bit of logic. Like I'm okay with her original outfit and it's not like most people run around dressed in skintight latex/spandex
What's the logic about wearing skintight spandex and saying that's not sexualizing?
I'm asking for a little bit of logic. Like I'm okay with her original outfit and it's not like most people run around dressed in skintight latex/spandex
that seems like an almost entirely arbitrary distinction I don't see what internal story logic is broken by hot pants and a brazziere that isn't broken by skin tight spandex
