It's the act of crying, as in being sad/hurt that can trigger the seizure, not the tears themselfs. Otherwise she'd be dead. Granted the article can sound a bit misleading, but I think it's pretty clear they're referring to the act of crying by "her tears".

If I'm not mistaken it's not technically a seizure (although, I don't actually know the technical definition of a seizure, so I'm talking out of my ass) because it doesn't involve malfunctioning cortical neurons, but these "fits" are very similar to a seizure.

It's not the tears that kill her, it's the emotion, she can die if she feels sad to the point of crying.

I think it's more the physical action of crying and the way the body reacts to it than the salty water from the eyes itself. . . It's not like she's allergic to saline.

Actually if the fits are very painful to her, she will probably become conditioned against crying like Pavlov's dogs.
One child had condition where he uncontrollably vomited all the time and so doctors administered a shock whenever he did and it cured his condition.
Wonder how it would play out if it was the other way around...
I guess that means when she sees something expensive and her parents don't have the money for it they better buy it or else she'll cry and die.
